  • It’s about time I revisited the Bastl Kastle (original AND v1.5) and gave some more detailed information about how I use these little modular monsters in the context of other musical gear.
    0:44 Kastle audio output is VERY LOUD! Get a cheap headphone attenuator!
    1:40 3.5mm TRS R/L channel splitter to use with the i/o jack in modular context.
    2:29 What’s with the LED plugged into the Kastle?
    3:05 Original Kastle compared to Kastle v1.5.
    4:30 Kastle v1.5 USB power!
    5:35 Kastle patching tip
    6:25 Kastle is good friends with the Make Noise 0-Coast
    8:34 Kastle plays nicely with Korg SQ-1
    10:06 Kastle and Pocket Operator sync (take 2: I was young and dumb when I made the original sync tutorial)
    I hope you learned something new! If not, I hope it was at least an enjoyable experience.

    Very informative video about the Kastle and interfacing it with other gear! Clear instuctions and quality video/audio. Many other channels trying to do this fail badly because they assume too much knowledge from the audience, leave out important parts and also make too long/short/shaky videos. Very nice!

    Great tips. I will have to experiment with my Field Kit fx and see how the little mini sequencer plays with the Kastle.

    Cool vid man :) have been digging the Kastl v1.5 for drones for a while. Neat mod with the LED. I've also been using the square LFO out to trigger modular stuff. It works really well with the 4ms Rotating Clock Divider so I can have multiple sync'd clocks at different rates triggering stuff (I use it for triggering a Turing Machine or Radio Music or Rings mostly). Rings is my fave to process the Kastl audio too. I'm thinking I now need to try stuff with the 0-coast (maybe some sort of modified Krell patch with the Kastl).

    Great video! Have you heard of the Easter egg in the kastle 1.5? Looks like a ride cymbal sample, looks like they have a whole bunch of drum sounds for it. I think it has something to do with how you start it up

    I'd love to see the kastle go through an envelope so it can do more melody type stuff.

      I want a pitch quantizer. I've looked at the AE modular one, but apparently the kastle isn't V/Oct.

    Thanks for the video! Question from a pedal punching caveman noise musician... I'm very new to synthesizers, modules, CV etc. Got my Kastle the other day and I love it! I'm thinking of getting more modular stuff and using it with the Kastl. The question is: Is the Kastl compatible with eurorack modules in the way you used it with other gear in the video? Or even better: what do I have to look for to know if something is compatible or not? Any help would be much appreciated! Greetings from Germany

    i recently got a kastle 1.5 to pair with my circuit mono station. the mono station has cv and gate outputs both 3.5mm TRS . the kastle has one 3.5mm TRS input . could i use both the cv and gate out of the mono station to modulate the kastle the same way you do with your 0 coast even though all inputs and outputs are trs? could i use trs patch cables or do i need ts cables? thanks

    • @rchrd3353
      @rchrd3353 5 років тому

      @@AidanBurnsFulkerson my main concern was L/R input of the kastle working with the mono station since they're trs jacks. i'd like to send the note out from the trs of the circuit via one cable and the sync out from the other trs of the circuit via another cable, into a cable like you have to the l/r of the kastle.. then sent note to pitch and sync to lfo reset

    Just got a Kastle to compliment the SoftPop and Volca Modular. At 5:25 your usb power bank shuts down - I’ve been having the same problem. Kastle works from the Apple CCK drawing power from an iPad or iPhone, but standalone power banks seem to cut out. Have you found any solution to this? Thanks for the in-depth tutorial!

    • @stevecurcuru
      @stevecurcuru 5 років тому

      Aidan Burns-Fulkerson ah that’s a great idea, thanks. So far I’ve been running the Kastle off the usb from the apple CCK or wall adapter; and AAs on the go.

    How would I go about slaveing the Kastl to a PO-12 and syncing the PO to ableton?

    • @phillindablank

      You could always use the sync kontrol app on an iOS Device to the pocket operator and then connect it via ableton link
