    Wow.... wheel flares or not, the sheer rarity of the GSII, love it! Great job spotting this one. I will admit I am a true Rotor head, but the more I watch your vids, well I'm starting to become a J-tin fan!! Thanks for sharing and keep your fantastic vids coming!

    I wanted an early rotor coupe as my first car 15 years ago. At the time I liked the rx4 coupe most, but now I actually like the rx2 and rx3 and r100 coupe's as a preference. I used to see them more often on our roads in Australia but recently they are quite rare and hard to find. Although I saw a few recently on sunny days ;). I ended up with a 73 240z as my first car after working for my uncle who is a brick layer during school holidays. I paid half and my mum paid the other half. You could get a 240z back then for 3k and that was what I did.
    I really regretted not sticking with that car, I later got a 72 240z and I paid for that working in a cheap video store.
    Now that I've finished with school and been working I got myself a series 6 FD and own 2 240z's. Still got the 72 and recently got a early 1970 that needs restoration. I'm learning to do the body work myself at a local technical college because to be honest I don't see myself ever growing out of old school j tin.
    I've worked many jobs but always loved these old school Japanese cars. Never thought I'd get a rotary but I am really glad I did amazing motors and great fun to drive around and think about how the motor works and know it is unique to every other car on the road.

    WasabiCars One of these RX-2 is for sell in Puerto Rico! Love this body style, and that RX-7!!! Wow! That's a 1979 first gen. RX-7 also my favorite! I remember once, my friend took his dad's first gen. RX-7 out for a spin (with no permission because his dad wouldn't let him). That RX-7 had the devil in it! It had a twin turbo 13B swap (originally had a 12A). So we took the car, drove it down a hill and floor-to-the metal! It was my first experience with a rotary, and one of the scariest one too! My friend accelerated to like 6-7500 rpm and the car jumped right up to the air!!! All we saw was the hood and blue sky! We just saw each other in terror and returned the car to the same spot we took it. The next day out of curiosity, I asked his father, how much power the mazda has? He said in a measly tone while eating....675-700 horsepower. I was like: 8^0!!!¡¡¡. As a job I had a newspaper route. Nothing much. Lol. Those were the good old days for sure!! 8^)

    Only 2 SA22 RX7 in 17 years? Crazy. Past 10 years here i've probably seen at least 20. Extremely common car in the US and can be had for pennies in good working order. Especially in the south west, but here it's a car spotters dream really.

    Don't mind the flares or spoiler. They're both removable & it's easily put back into stock shape plus, IMO, it's a nice look. And you can't tell I was always into cars? First I had a summer job with a bread company fueling, cleaning & caring for the delivery trucks then I got a part time job at an old Mobil gas station. This was long ago when the red pegasus was everywhere! Perk on that job was free oil changes & use of the rack to work on my car. Good times...

  • @RobertOlddude
    @RobertOlddude 10 років тому

    I did a few different jobs in high school. I started before high school mowing lawns in the warm weather and shoveling snow in the winter. I would also do odds jobs for my grandfather. My first part time job was working at an oil change place. I quit that job after about six months and worked at a moving company for much better money. In the early eighties I could make 300 by working on the weekend. This Paris for my stero equipment and gas among other things.

    My High School job was a boring run of the mill paper run, still it paid for my early start in buying kitset models and building an HO/OO model railway, sold many years ago, now have a 5 inch guage loco to play with.

      @wasabicars  10 років тому

      Nice. My actually very first job was helping the newsagency guy wrap the papers then load the into the car. I'd be in the back handing him the papers. Had to be up at 3. It was tough going at the start.

      WasabiCars In later years while I worked with a mobility service, I was up at 3 to fold and wrap the Dominion Post newspaper and deliver them on a country run, usually home again about 6.30, sleep for an hour and back into driving the mobility van, made for a very long day.

    The air-vent delete is pretty common on resto'd cars Dan, the original was probably a bad rust spot, and these are known to rust around that vent and cause further rust down inside the pillar. Maybe just a delete when they did the body work then?
    My part time job in high school was as a kitchen hand at the Como Hotel in Perth, which led to my full time job now as a chef. PEACE!!!

    It's so funny that you say that rotaries in the Japan are rare, because the RX7 is super common in the US and in the Caribbean. I can't say the same for the Capella or RX2 and RX3s. Anyway, awesome vid. Thanks for posting that. :)

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  10 років тому

    Mine? worked as a service station forecourt attendant which entailed going there almost all day saturday and cleaning the whole joint up including degreasing the floor of the mechanics bay (yes that was when servo's had attached working garages) , filling up all the oil bottles that used to sit outside on the rack (another bygone tradition) , refilling LPG bottles etc etc and only getting paid $30 a week for the whole thing!

    So in other words: the Mazda rotaries are just as rare in Japan as here in the Netherlands?
    So far I have seen in the wild:
    2 x RX7 FC
    1 x RX7 FD
    4 x RX8
    And of course I did see many RX7s and RX8s (and a Cosmo) either at a meeting or enroute to a meeting.
    QOTD? I had many jobs in high school, but the one I liked best was hauling breakfast/lunch/dinner trays in a local hospital. Apart from bringing them to the various sections of the hospital as fast as we could (otherwise the food would be cold) there wasn't much to do during the remainder of the day. So me and two other guys did nothing but play cards all day. ;)

    I bought a brand new 4dr Mazda RX2, back in '73, assembled in NZ, and sold it in 1981, I had front and rear spoilers added and mag wheels, apex seals only lasted 40,000kms, but I always regretted selling that car. postimg.org/image/vdvh6g39f/

    • @BigThree4Ever
      @BigThree4Ever 8 років тому

      If I may ask, what was your driving like with the car? I understand that every now and then you come across a lemon... because just shy of 25,000 miles seems a little low for apex seals to go bad. If I remember correctly they should last closer to 100k miles.

      WasabiCars I know, I don't care if my nameplate appears anywhere, it's just dumb.
      do you know Bembos? it is one of the most well known brand here in Peru, it is more expensive than their US competitors, but the hamburgers are super thick! there was a limited offer a year ago of Kobe meat hamburgers, but that was one of the most expensive hamburgers I've ever seen. I didn't buy one, but they were more that 10 US dollars. have you seen bembos in Japan? I heard that there are two restaurants in dheli and mumbay, I don't know about japan though.
