The topics you cover in this channel are always so good. You’re probably like one of three people who would even cover something like DOS horror games, but damn I love it! Banger video as always!!

1. I recorded this at night so I don't think opening the curtains would've done much 2. If I had them open during the day, the unmatched power of the sun would've made this video even more poorly lit lol 3. I don't know half the references you're making but I'm gonna assume they're positive so thanks for the comment
ur video topic selection is great, the subjects you present, usually i have little to no knowledge of but by the end, i feel like this should be more common knowledge?? also the cultural and historical context helps me build a better picture of how things are/were. The series on the gaming magazine is probably my fav thinking about it. not sure if i’ve commented before, hope u continue ur work and just letting u know ur content is quality and greatly appreciated.
Is it weird to say that I find myself nostalgic over a genre of game I’ve never played? Or was even born early enough to play? I really love these videos cause even though these types of games aren’t made in this same way any more they still remain so understandable in their tone if that makes any sense. These really stand out to me as this era’s version of the late 2000’s to early 2010’s rpg maker horror game boom.
There's definitely a time capsule feel to games like this which have largely gone out of style. Playing them today is almost like immersing yourself in a museum. I think the nostalgia comment makes sense
Ehh. I see waxworks listed in the description, but would it be possible I can get the full list of games your cover here? I'd love to check them out before watching this video in order to avoid any possible spoilers.
good video, but you really need to cut some things off. like when you talk about blue filter on your monitor. this was unnecessary to be that long. it was 2.5 minutes but it can be described in 10-20 seconds. This can really bored viewer fast.
I never realized blue light could be that much of an issue especially at your age even with dark games. Is it just with LCD screens or does it happen on an OLED screen as well? Amazing video BTW
I've never actually noticed a difference between the two (nor am I very knowledgeable about monitors, mind you). It's actually becoming more popular among people my age now that the effects of blue light are becoming more well known (lotta highschoolers with messed up sleep schedules). That's why I assume most people in my age bracket use it, but it's now become a comfort thing for me. I've heard of people in screen-heavy professions using filters or glasses regardless of age to reduce eye strain eg editors and graphic designers. In the mid and late 2010s, Gunnars were even a "pro gamer" accessory because the MLG types would wear them while they were 360 no-scoping all day. Also: thanks!
@@TheCellarTaigenMoon You're the only dude afaik covering horror or even retro games in general that are this obscure with this level of editing and narration. I just found your channel and it immediately reminded me of the first time I watched avgn or snesdrunk. I feel like you'd be better off view wise cutting these into shorter episodic videos focusing on one game at a time though
Thanks! I like to cover a lot of topics on this channel, so when I have a game that I want to talk about but don't think is interesting enough to carry a whole video I'll try to work it into a larger topic. This video was actually a way to scratch a bunch of games off of a list, and it's convenient that it's October and they're all horror games.
incredibly proud of myself for solving the egypt number puzzle in only about 10 or so minutes, i'll post the notes i used below :) (i started by assigning each editable number a letter, starting from the top and going counter-clockwise, marking every combination as follows. i decided to keep the repeats in for the sake of consistency in the notes.) A14C A73D B17E B46D C41A C63E D64B D37A E71A E36C (i then went through one-by-one and compared each variable to its neighbors by finding the variables that it would affect. for example, the lines extending from C are what determines A's relationship with B. since both lines (7,3 and 6,4) add up to 10, regardless of what C was, A and B would have to be the same number in order for both lines to add up to the same value. i repeated this process for each variable, again including repeats for consistency.) A = B A = E+4 B = A B = C+1 C = B-1 C = D +5 D = C-5 D = E-2 E = D+2 E = A-4 (from here i worked out that D would have to be the lowest number. i worked out what each variable's value would be if D=0 and marked them.) D = (A-4)-2 if D = 0: A=6 B = 6 C = 5 D = 0 E = 2 Consistency Check: 6145 = 16 6730 = 16 6172 = 16 6460 = 16 5416 = 16 5632 = 16 0646 = 16 0736 = 16 2716 = 16 2365 = 16 fun puzzle! i absolutely understand not wanting to bother with it, though.
10:44 And boom goes the dynamite.😄 Hmm I've heard about blue sensitivity but I didn't realize it could get that bad.😟 Dark blue is a popular old school darkness hue, sometimes chosen and other times that's all the system palette had. Fundamentally it's a color-wheel driven thing, red is hot, and blue is cold hence gradating to black or the absence of light. The Romantic Blue seems to be VGA compatible so in 640x480 that translates to 4bpp global or 16 colors only. I think it uses a basic 50/50 palette split setup of 8 colors greyscale with color tint thus eight shades of blue. So the 8 other colors are for those isolated exceptions like a green ghost, grey menu box, red fire etc.. Common Amiga method of gradient depth priority over hue diversity when having limited colors Eg. Behind the Iron Gate. Waxworks turned out pretty good, very lush visually and much like the film license as both movies visit many realms. Worth mentioning the films have a lot of actors from many other pop culture TV & movies.
Haha yeah, I've gotten so used to filtering out blue light that I can't go back for very long without strain kicking in. If what you say about Romantic Blue's colors is true, that's very clever. It manages to take a technical limitation and make the most out of it to come up with a memorable aesthetic.
@@TheCellarTaigenMoon I was looking closer at the cinematics, so dark heh, and seemed familiar. It looks like the lady is a tracing of Poison Ivy from Batman:The Animated Series.
