With very few exceptions, it's green for the win. I remember a couple of years ago just about falling off the couch when a UA-camr paid upwards of $2000 for a *tiny* variegated, strawberry something-or-other Syngonium. That craze went all the way off the rails 🤣

Green plants definitely have their charm. The variegation craze can get a bit wild sometimes! I think I saw that ridiculousness happen too at some point Dave, I mean not for me, but I guess for some people! 😂🌿

My albo monstera variegation is quite stable and does not have issue with browning in room humidity. It has marble and chuck of white, I gave it a mosspole and top bright light from a grow light. Biggest leaves are around 45-50 cm long with double fenestration. I bought it as a full top cutting plant (7 big leaves, well rooted) from a guy who grew it in low humidity as well and the mother plant was like 4-5 meters tall. So i do think that it can adapt to low humidity as long as the roots can get enough nutrition and lots of light.

My Monstera Albo grows in regular household conditions, I don’t get any browning whatsoever on the white. It’s highly variegated too. My Thai Con gets browning on the cream frequently 🤷‍♀️😀🇨🇦

Found a 3 leaf baby Thai Con at my local grocery for $20 in the US. It had a bit of root rot, lost 1 leaf but is recovering fine. Getting a new leaf finally.

I have all of those. Propagated one of my Deliciosa Albo today - a month of neglegt is the cause. I cannot stand variegated Adansonii anymore. Doesn't matter which. Just today, I chopped up a Mint. Last try. And I binned all my Adansonii Albo. I have a variegated Monstera Lechleriana which is nice. Oh, and I binned the Standleyanas. My winner is the Thai Constellation. I have an old one (not from that horrid TC batch that made the rounds). It's giving me secondary fenetrations even though the leaves aren't all that big. Have one big pot with two plants in it, one small one (that had thrips) and a medium-sized pot which is giving me the most. Totally love them.

The Thai is fairly inexpensive in the USA recently, but don’t want to get it yet. I agree that the adansonii you featured does look as if it had Covid🤣. Thanks for sharing Memo!

The Thai Con can be a bit overhyped, but it’s great that prices are coming down. The Adansonii you mentioned does have a bit of a “sick” look most of the times to be fair! 😂🌿

Oooo my Alien Jungle is mostly variegated. I’m a hoe for variegation, and I need that on a shirt. It takes a YEAR for anything to acclimate, because I live in an exposed brick loft. Sucks the moisture right out of the air. I try hard to keep it at 40%. But perfect light. I started with carnivorous, so most of mine end up in wick watering pots. Once they settle in, I have very little browning. I’m using RO water and silica. I struggle with the aurea, but I’m letting it dry out more.
I have no close shops, so I have trusted vendors that sell quality variegated plants. Costs, but shoutout to RarePlantFairy. Every variegated plant loses all its variegated bits when I get it in. It’s my humidity. I’ve learned to wring my hands through it, baby the roots, and hang on. It will come back stronger and happier eventually. So I never want to buy too big or too small. Beautiful Collection Memo! 💚💚💚

Your Alien Jungle sounds amazing! 🌿 Variegation is addictive, isn’t it? Keeping plants in an exposed brick loft is challenging, but it sounds like you’ve got a great system going. Shoutout to RarePlantFairy for quality plants, indeed, just checked out the site and it looks amazing! Thanks for the kind words about my collection! 💚💚💚

Monstera Standleyana Variegata is a really nice plant and easy to grow.
As for the white bits I think they tend to brown from underwatering. I grow my variegated plants in room humidity and I wouldn't say I have big issues with browning leaves.

my monstera albo is in my living room close to a south facing window with approx 60 percent humidity. A nice overall variegation. only one small piece of browning but the newest leaves stay perfectly nice, Lovely plant, reasonably fast growing. ( in self watering pot with mosspole). And yes, I think that indonesian/mint variegated adensonii looks sick.

I'm also not a fan of the mint adonsonii. I think it looks scraggly in a bad way.
I'm in Cape Town, South Africa and I've had some slugs go after plants that I keep in a covered half inside, half outside room. They've decimated my calathea orbifolia and damaged a few others. Also had a friend with a slug living in her moss pole and it took a big chunk out of her thai con. That slug was dining on sashimi and caviar at that price.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 місяці тому

Sorry to hear about the slug attack! Slugs can be relentless. Keeping them away from precious plants is a constant battle. Your friend’s Thai Con must have been quite a feast for that slug! 🍃

@@Houseplantygoodness Honestly, my calathea was out there in timeout until I behaves itself, so I'm not exactly too choked up 😅 I have taken some baby chunks, roots and those big tubey things to put in a smaller pot and we'll try again 💚
My Alo Cuprea was also outside fighting for survival and that cheeky thing grew another leaf and 3 healthy root sections during the midst of winter. The audacity!
      Have a good evening xx

Last year I was watching ebay auctions for the Borsigiana & Thai Con cuttings go for up to $7000 in Aus 🇦🇺. Here a year later I get a nice sized Thai Con and Aurea for $50 each. Har Har to all those people with more money than sense. 😜 By the way... I love your channel Memo. 🙏😀

Thais are everywhere in the States now. Not for $20. Most smalls are $69 ish. My Esqueleto is pretty fast growing so far. Grew it from a cutting. I ignore my standleyana albo and it’s grown all over a plant window. I can’t see the end of it so I have no idea how long it is now lol. My standleyana aurea grows much slower but I really don’t care. My Thai and Albo are pretty slow. My Burle Marx Flame is growing pretty steadily so far. I expected it to be slower. Burle Marx variegated is a constant grower.

Orange lake nursery has thia planets for 11$!
I got my Thai from them in Dec for like 40$ 😅 it's growing well but slowly, when it gets big enough gonna try it outside. My green form large form (which iirc thia are based on) is growing well outside outside getting stuck in my decks's beam and incident last year where it had used my siding as a pole and detached, partially snapped, but hey how it has two growth points with leaves so bushier!
My standleyana eventually started growing well, unno why. It may be type that prefers to get root bound first? I think pothos are like that, wouldn't be surprised if some monstera are also
My green esqueleto node I got two years ago for too much eventually died :( maybe I'll retry. It's been nice seeing the prices drop so, I left the plant community social media watching for a while, and I come back and so many then pricy plants were no longer pricy :O!

My small form Albo is great in regular household humidity. I have three with beautiful variegation. My small form Aurea & large form Yellow Marilyn can be brats. Adansonii Albo browns occasionally. Adansonii Aurea and tricolor are too new to judge. I have a variegated Lechleriana that is stunning.
Monstera don’t get tent space in my house. They all fend for themselves in ambient.

My Monstera Albo is not browning in average household conditions, but I have a more marbled/minty specimen. Adansonii are such a Thrips magnet for me. I bought my monstera albo in a closing down sale, fairly large plant with 6 leaves for £40, which I know is very cheap, but it’s still the most I’ve ever spent on a single plant. And I don’t enjoy growing it. It took 7 months to put out a new leaf, and the whole bottom section would have been white but browned off immediately (this was about 4 months ago). I know patience is the key with plants but damn! It’s not showing any signs of further growth but I have moved house recently so it’s not going to be happy with the change of environment. Honestly I wish I’d got a wish list anthurium instead!

I’ve been hesitant to pick up a plant with high, or sectoral variegation, unless it’s been proven it can handle lower humidity. I don’t have a greenhouse, or cabinet, don’t plan to get either, and ambient humidity is between 30-50% I don’t want to spend a lot on a plant for it to crisp up honestly

Thai constellation are everywhere in the US now and it seems like they’re not selling as quick as they were. It’s not uncommon to see them for sale and no one buying them. A store local to me has had 20-30 4in pots from Costa Farms on the shelf for at least 2 weeks and none selling. I’ve also noticed in the huge sale groups on fb that people aren’t buying them, even from the highest rated sellers

Variegation is still king. 👍🏻 Just look at all the Alocasia coming around. The ones that may not catch on are the variegated Anthurium. They’re just not pretty and people prefer the dark velvety leaves.
I believe borsigiana is just an old species name that is no longer used. They’re all Deliciosa but there is a small form and a large form. The Albo is almost always small form.
Other than the Standleyana, there is also the variegated Lechleriana.
Ok done with my notes. 😂
