    I just want to give Chad some love. There are aspects of the game development that is way over the players heads. The struggles you handle during development are complex and you do a great job explaining it to those who just "play the game". I appreciate these episodes and how you all take the time to speak through the struggles, wins and even failures. I really feel like part of the development. Keep up the good work!

    Chad McKinney's detailed explanation of the ATC issues, mining bag pivots, etc. was incredibly helpful. This kind of transparency and communication is exactly what I look forward to as Star Citizen continues to evolve. Would love to see the ATLS or other mechs with attachments for repair, salvage, etc. in the near future. ;)

    Thank you Jared and GIG for continuing to keep us more than just informed, but educated about, not just how game Dev work at CIG, but on all the troubles and tribulations you face making this game for us. It's beyond any realistic expectation of transparency from any company, but you all work hard to do it for us. I for one, appreciate it, and I know I'm not alone in that. 🖖

    One hangar module I'd love to see is maintenance bays of multiple different pad sizes where you can spawn a ship and do things like manually switch out guns,components,and also patch the skin with the repair tools and such so we can have another optional system for those who don't want to use the space magic systems

      They have talked about more physical tools instead of beams, but that will probably be after release since it would take a ton of more work. It would require, design docs, more physics work, art work, more mo-cap, more animations and other stuff I'm forgetting to add.
      And I agree, although you can switch out various items now like weapons and soon we will be able to switch out components, repair and salvaging of components.

      @thePrisoner1000 well ik we have the ability to change out our components and weapons as well as repair the skin in the current game, but what gave me the idea was the little maintenance cubby in the hangars and the maintenance bays that I saw in aside the venators in the starwars thing I was watching before this lol

      @@arride4590 that’s cap. I can easily get 100+fps in any landing zone. Server side fps and bugs are other issues mostly unrelated to your client. Sure the game still needs to be optimized but my game runs fine outside of the bugs we all experience.
      Also his comment is clearly a joke! Take your rage elsewhere!

    Loved this episode. Important questions were answered, and really well at that. I really liked the deep dives in particular, since this way we really understand things. Great job. Would've loved to see even more.

    I hope we aren't losing the cargo decks. True, they don't serve a game flow purpose at the moment other than having another kiosk to buy things from, but they are legitimately my favorite locations in the verse right now. They feel so authentic that I want them to be real and to be working.

      I feel like cargo decks should be a place where the Hull series ships unload at. They'd feel more alive if the cargo crates were being moved around though. Having to dodge cargo hauling equipment while heading to the cargo store would be interesting.

    I feel as if instead of storing 16 individual 1scu boxes, it could just add to a tally of owned scu of that material, and then it could be retrieved in any box size you want.

    Re: ATC the prisoner - if you ask a guard his sentence was over years ago, but for some reason they can't get his cell door open to release him.

    The primary motivator in SC at present is uec accrual. But once we each own a few ships, enough gear and currency - where is the motivation to continue these repetitive and often quite tedious tasks?
    For me - these are the things that would make me want to keep playing SC. In no particular order:
    - Buying my own land and building a homestead on some planetary body, a customizable place to call home on which I can stamp my identity.
    - Owning a mine, farm or some form of production facility to create my own local economy - to increase my personal wealth and stature.
    - Deep space exploration and related financial benefits for the discovery of valuable worlds or resources.
    - Terraforming new worlds.
    - Partipating in the war of the worlds. A call to arms that musters the full force of SC players against a common enemy. A battle that could rage for months.
    - Or on a smaller scale the eradication or subjugation of hostile alien life forms. (flora, fauna, biomechanical, plasma, interdimensional etc).
    I need a sense of achievment and self expression and above all excitement

      Exactly! Player Progression and fun gameplayloops without hour-long waiting periods is what is needed for years now and something CIG seems unable to do. Basicly the most important things that makes a game. Instead we get flooded with extreamly viscous sim-like or new T0 core mechs.
      I love their concepts and basic visions but at this point what we need is real, fluid gameplay that is fitting for something called a game.

    When you enter a new empty hangar from the elevator, the floor should already be down with the cover door closed. (But of course not when you enter with a ship from outside.)

    I'm glad some (or maybe most?) people at CIG understand that the 'grandeur' of some of these mechanics in-game is limited and elaborate lengthy processes quickly lose their luster when you just want to get to the dynamic parts. It's great to have cosmetic spaces that make the world feel more alive, but when it ends up feeling like a morning commute to work, it loses its appeal as a design.

    I like all the little hanger items lying around . Its just like a casual hanger would be like. Once all items can be moved. You can then adjust as you see fit. That would make sense to me.

    I hope that when we're able to move the cargo elevator, we can move it out of the wall. The current configuration being buried in the wall is really inhibitive when it comes to larger boxes or using the elevated ship tractor beams. Ideally, it would be best to have the cargo elevator set up similarly to the ship elevator in that it comes out of the floor and has ample vertical space available to move boxes around. I imagine the perfect placement for that would be in a space between the ship elevator and the entrance.

    I like the speed of the ship reveal in the hangers. Its part of the immersion. The alarm, needs to be there as a warning. Having 3 going off all around you is something that could be fixed and the sound would not be so annoying.

    The item bank was good, I think the biggest limitation was the lack of a containerization flow to let users dump items into a container - either from inventory or, if none are available, at cost (purchase).
    Don't scrap the concept, it's the right direction. Loot also needs work to better manage backpacks - more items per page and the ability to send items to different inventories on the player/outside the player. I think these can be achieved.
    Another ask/idea would be icons/naming for containers which the *owner* and their party can see but are otherwise private. As part of this, add a locking feature to prevent access to people not allowed to use it but probably with a hack/unlock flow that pirates can use - maybe relating to the datarunner/data ships with powerful compute?
    The interface needs to be completely reworked - the interface is really bad - it will vanish, clip, hide the player, it is extremely unreliable and has significant bugs. A rebuild from scratch makes way more sense I can't imagine wasting several quarters of sprints trying to patchwork the ui.

    I think for Tractor beams the Hand held units work fine. I would like to see the same functionality from the ATLS go to vehicle-based tractor beams.

    For larger hangers if you are summoning a smaller ship, perhaps the ship pad/elevator could be redesigned in sections so that only a section big enough for the smaller ship needs to move in order to bring up the ship. A smaller elevator can of course logically move quicker than a larger one.
    Another idea would be having enough space in player hangers to have a handful of frequently used "favorite" ships already out of storage. I also like the idea of having a futuristic version of a ground tug to be able to move ships around the hangar. Ground servicing equipment is definitely missing from hangars.

    I know this isn't probably the best way of asking questions but ive been having trouble finding the Q&A section of stuff.
    You asked about possible changes the community can make.
    You asked for suggestions so here i go(first ever!)
    One of the reasons i got into star citizen was the mining and salvage gameplay. To be honest i don't personally care for the combat at the moment but thats my opinion cause i like to hop on star citizen to relax and enjoy the atmosphere when im trying to gain credits.
    One of my current gripes with the mining mechanic right now is that there are no massive asteroids to mine. And for good reason.
    If you try to mine an asteroid you need a large enough mining lazer or a bunch of them to crack the big rocks. And i feel this is an amazing thing where people can work together to do this! Imagine 30 players on one massive asteroid!
    But that brings me to a down side to this.

      If the asteroid is too large you would need lazers that are size 7 to 9 to break the rocks.
      Now while that seems fun, if all it's going to be is bigger rock needs bigger lazer then the game could become stale really, really fast.
      The solution? BOOM STICK!
      Let me explain. If you come across a small asteroid in something like the orion you can easily just munch it while others must first break it
      Medium ones require lazers for orion and stupidly dangerous overclocks and other upgrades for

      And the large rocks need more powerful lazers from the orion.
      But the mole... just can't. Unless you have like 2-3 other moles it's just either not possible or not worth the time.
      This is where the mining boom sticks come into play.
      The Argo may find a asteroid that is too big for his lazer but it has really good rock to ore ratio.
      You just take a size 1-2 mining explosive probe. And blow up the big rock! Now at best you get 70% of usable ore. Some ores may even be fragile and you must be careful!
      Now how can you be careful with a boom stick you may ask?
      A small mingqme that's kinda trial and error, an unseen one.
      Basically you scan the rock and decide what kind of missile to send and how powerful they need to be.
      When you scan a rock you can put a certain amount of explosive substance into each payload.
      A small asteroid would be a size 1 with minimal payload.
      Where as a bigger one could be a size 1 you put more of said explosive substance in or you go up a size.
      This will either instantly shatter an asteroid 1 or even 2 stages smaller! With a few Clumps being the smallest.
      This will allow people to mine larger asteroids than they should but in doing this minigame it takes time(minigame), storage space(for the missiles and payload that's stored separately), and the fact you dont get the full amount you would if you had used lazers(the minimum 30%loss).
      The more accurate you are with the invisible minigame you learn through trial and error.
      Some rocks may be tougher than others its own size and you need either better/bigger missiles, better explosive payload(c4 vs gunpowder).
      If it's fragile you use multiple smaller ones to protect the ore but they need to hit at the same time or they do nothing.(possibly multiple ships or ones that can launch multiple)
      This could mean you have your guards load up on these new missiles to help. But they need to figure out said minigame.
      This means no one is just sitting around waiting to get attacked! They have a purpose even when there is no combat. This is so they don't feel useless when there is no combat.

      Now you may ask why don't people always use missiles? Cause again the minimum 30% loss for each use of the missiles.
      So people who are either alone or have too few people, it's simply not worth the cargo space since so many other good asteroids are out there. Just simply go to a smaller one and your fine.
      I want this to be a mechanic that larger organizations or possibly just factions/guilds use to massive effect where a solo player or a couple of friends may not see the use for.
      The loop right now
      Miners: find rock, break rock, mine rock, drop full mining bags to hauler, Pick up resupply from hauler.
      Hauler:pick up bags full of rock. Transport to refinery/sell, pick up new empty mining bags and other supplies(upgrades for mining lazers, fuel, food/water, ammunition for guards, parts to repair ship if damaged while mining)
      Guards: look pretty, look for future Swiss cheese, make Swiss cheese, play uno in another window(happened a few times) fly with hauler to refinery, look pretty.
      With the changes I proposed you could have
      Miners: if rock too big scan and send scan results to guard
      Hauler:they have to hold extra mining missiles and explosive payloads for Guards
      Guards: get scans from Miners, talk and argue how many missiles they need vs. how much payload each one needs and what kind of payload, make rock into smaller rock and hope it wasn't too much and it's not just zooming at 300+mph away.
      This will also solve a potential problem I could see with the orion. If you are looking for rocks to mine you may end up with down time.
      If you gave an area thats destitute of resources then your burning fuel, time, and money. It's possible it could take 12-17 minutes to find-scan-break-break-break-eat-refine. And the problem with that is... what if you can't mine the ore fast enough? You are wasting time breaking the rocks down with lazers which could be super fast if you use more lazers/more ships or more power lazers. But again size limits prevent to large of an asteroid from being potentially processed.
      This could mean it takes 4+ hours or possibly 8+ on a bad day to fill up the orion.
      Instead you could have.
      Prospectors looking for massive asteroids and guiding the orion to the next big score
      Moles helping orion break down stubborn rocks and to pick up any ore that the orion left behind(the orion can't stop moving if it wished to remain profitable)
      The orion providing larger lazers so they don't have to waste missiles and prevent ore loss. They also refine ore slightly so haulers don't send back ore with a ton of useless rock.
      Smaller hauling ships(hull b and c)
      Running supplies for everyone.
      Empty mining bags for moles, empty mining boxes for orion, ect.
      Larger cargo ships(hull d catapiler)
      Ore runs to refinery stations to finish the refining process.
      Guard ships protecting and having missiles to blow up rocks.
      They can have systems to launch 1 big payload. Star lifter
      Or a Salvo of smaller missiles for the more fragile asteroids. Gladiator.

      All this will allow the orion and potentially other large scale mining operations to always be mining. Either they are mining a large asteroid, or they are on their way to a large one that someone suggested, mining decent ore laden rocks along the way.
      This could mean you have an orion filled up in possibly 2 hours or even as little as 40 minutes! That may seem like a lot but remember this is a lot of coordination between a larger number of players.
      Pay will be split hopefully between them all and the risk for failure rises with each additional player. Ships that can repair other ships may need to be called in from time to time due to this issue.
      Also you still have pirates to worry about. So there's that.
      Honestly I'm pretty I could keep going but I think I'm going to stop here. I don't want to write to much out then have it just be... wasted.
      If there is a place I can ask on an official forum(I looked at discord but it kinda looks like a jumbled mess) I'll re-upload this comment there.
      I just wanted this idea of my chest as it wouldn't have let me sleep if I didn't at least try to say it.

    I'm much preferred the item drawer to the current system, it made it feel like something new rather than just making what we have more difficult. I also really liked the aesthetic of the item drawer's UI

    leaving tractor beams differentiated is especially important for cash grabs to solve problems created by the dev team (nerf all tractor beams, then offer paywall cure). I love how they speak to us like we are 9 year olds who don't know better.

    The you could give the big boy tractor rifle the atlas functionality to help differentiate it from the multitool. It would help to justify the price tag on the thing.

    I don't understand why the lights need to go out to get a ship delivered. You wouldn't do that IRL.
    Sci-fi hangars in movies are often dark for cinematic effect, but again this is never the case IRL because you want to see clearly where you step and where everything is.

    Great explanation about good and bad things. Be transparent on good news but more also in bad ones. That's we want CIG. We can understand the patch being delayed, we only want to understand why and you will count on our support.     Maybe combine the Cargo Deck rework with manual loading of the Hull series. It makes sense to me that the Cargo Deck would support the largest of hauls and a Hull C and up having to dock there.
