Tank looks great, Troy! I have a similar collection of species together including 3 Uarus. The Uarus pretty much ignore the rest of the fish. I added them then they were about the size of a 50 cent piece. They love Romaine and will eat algae off of any surface except the glass/acrylic. They spend much of the time picking at the driftwood in the tank. Very sweet fish. I don't have an Oscar in my tank. I have Severums, Angelfish, Geos, and Satanopercas which I would recommend :) I have 2 of the Royal Blue Phantom Pleco, They are amazing algae eaters and also like Romaine.
I'm glad you recognise this as 'our' big cichlid tank and looking for a consensus before changing anything 😂 initial reaction is don't change a thing but then after 3 years looking at the same area I guess the cichlids could do with a change and new stuff to explore.
Best show on! The fish are all so beautiful and happy. I like the tank scape the way it is, didn’t care for the 3D background. Great vid Troy! Thank You ❤ 👍 🐟
hey troy great video. I really think that you should change the aquascape to a 3d back ground it would look really cool also i think a green terror would be a excellent option for the tank to give it a different color and we might see joker 2
Awesome tank! I have a bunch of plants from Elite cichlids too. They will be missed. I hope they last forever. I used the same sand as you in my 125 South America tank. I have geo’s too and they keep the sand clean. My 1 complaint is the sand is so fine the geo’s blow it into the filters. I added pre filters to the intakes and it took care of the issue.
Magnificent tank and articulate, clear presentation. Thanks for the Sicce pump info. I can now avoid wasting all that water with the Python sink hookup. Been in the hobby for 60+ years and very happy to learn of this Sicce inovation.
Both uaru and green terrors would be good options, if you did end up going with a terror i'de do something similar to what you did with your oscar to help with aggression. Color wise the terror would pop more in the tank then uaru's also
Great update Troy! Sorry for the losses, but everything looks great! Also, thanks for mentioning what you attach to your Python for water changes. I've been wondering what to use with mine and this will work great!
You should get a true green terror! Matt cichlid dojo might have some! If not the Gold Saum would look great. The other fish are big enough to hold their own.
Hello Troy, I have a 65 gallon acrylic tank with 23 Mbunas, an albino bristlenose, and a super red bristlenose. they do pretty good together. Plenty of rocks and a big ship that they all hide out in. I'm having a 90 gallon acrylic customized and I was plan on putting all Peacocks in it but I love the Geophagus Topahoes that you have. I think I spelled it right. They are beautiful. If you were going to set up a 90 gallon tank with Geophagus as the center piece group, how would you do it. I'm fishing for ideas just in case I decide to go that route. Thank you in advance. Oh yeah, I also fell in love with that Sunset gold sand that you put in that 180 when you set it up. I almost put that in that 65 gallon but putting the Mbunas in there I just didn't want to chase that ph so I put the white Eco Complete and I've been happy. Trust and believe your videos are being watched.
I’m so sorry for your loss especially the chocolate cichlid. I’ve recently lost all mine within two days and I cried started to give up but my friend said just try again.
I vote to add some Uaru's I currently have 4.I got from James over at the Chiclid shack. They have done real well a peaceful fish and I now have a pair that laid eggs a few weeks back for the first time. But they are similar to an Oscar in personality they always come to greet me. You would love them.
Would definitely be the safer route. First priority is making sure they play nicely with the Oscar and severums which I think Uaru would be perfect for
@@CichlidBros yea your Oscar is pretty good size. I brought my Oscar and Uaru's when they were small and they grew up together. Not sure how they will do if they are small with the Oscar
8:00 time to set up a Central American cichlid tank 😂jokes aside i think you could put a 3d background and then let you inspire the changes that you think you need (i've seen a Tazawa Tanks video where he replaces the black background with a 3d one and the improvement is impressive)
Troy, I love the channel and the updates you guys provide and species profiles. If you are looking for something new I would get the 3d background and get the green terror. I have one in my 90 gal with my Red Devil Female and JD Female and my golden severum and turquoise severum. I did add a Chocolate cichlid because I saw yours and I love him to. He is so cute and I call him Hershey lol. Green terrors hold their own even when they are smaller. They can be a bit aggressive. But they are so colorful. An EBA would be nice in there to. Appreciate the video and content. maybe a JD if you want color also.
If you would stock a 135g with the same species you have in this tank, what numbers would you go with. We want 1 Oscar for sure, and 1-2 blue Acara. Not sure on the number of geo’s and Severus. Thanks, your 180 is a great setup.
@@CichlidBros my phantom hangs on the back of my tank behind the intake for my hang on back. I also have sicce wave maker cause of you. I think it’s cause that is where the most flow is. I really want to make sure i take good care of this pleco, cause I paid big money at my Local fish store. Any recommendations?
I love your aquarium! Who's beating the Geophagus, their fins look a little damaged :(. I really recommend you the Uaru, I've got my first one about 4 months ago, it has grown from 2" to over 5" and it is an awesome fish, very beautiful and it has great personality, he's a puppy fish, with similar personality to Oscars where they come right up to me and grab the food off my fingers.
What do you recommend feeding an Oscar? I got mine a couple weeks ago he’s about 2 inches long and I feed him a pellet cichlid food, tried flakes but he didn’t like and I give frozen blood worms everyday and he already seems bored with the selection
Get the Uaru or if you can find some panda uaru those are great especially with the mixture of fish you already have. The gold saum is nice but for me the uaru are the better fish
@@CichlidBros Thank you! I’ll check it out. About to get a new 180 or 215 planet aquarium from Aquarium Adventure and don’t think my current 125 light would work especially on the 215.
With cuts I use iodine and melafix. It worked fast and very well. Used on my female Oscar who was beat up by my wild male Oscar. Then I used it on my Flowerhorn from fighting another Flowerhorn. My separation wall somehow came apart.
Unfortunate to hear about your red head tapajos. I have a group of six in a 75g with 1 severum, 1 EBA And 10 red and blue combination tetras! Want more fish, thinking about doing 10 or 20 more tetras and another severum! What do you think?!
Watching your videos on South American cichlid tank is making me confused 🥴 ... Dont know which tank to setup not South American or Malawi 🤔. I loved malawi tank at first but not I am starting to love South American tank too 😩
Green terror would be bad idea! Uaru much better as long as you remember that they like being in groups like discus or geophagus. I ordered a 3 d background from aqua decor. There very pricey. Decent looking. But i dont think its worth the price they charge. Universal rocks was the same price. ( aint cheap) 👋🤣
the oscar has been biting the other fish apparently. Many of your fish in this tank lost scales. Oscar is not very aggressive compared to some other large American Cichlids but they do have nasty bites. It is possbile that he murdered the 2 fish you lost with a big scar on.
@@CichlidBros I don't observe your tank much enough so I will not disagree with you. Just don't see any other fish in that tank can cause similar impact on the skins/scales. I've watched many of your videos and feel grateful for all the effort and contents. I just hope sincerely you do not lose another fish in a similar way in this tank.
A new aquascape and new fish!!!! Let's goooo
We need that coach Donovan update next. Great video.
Thanks! And yep, coming up on two years now 😯
A green terror will be nice For sure the colors on that fish are just excellent beautifulness

Hi, what manufacturer did you buy your acrylic tank from? I'm in the market for a 180+ and don't know of a lot of manufacturers still around.
I bought it from fishtankdirect.com. It’s a seaclear clear for life
Have you had any issues with the acrylic bowing?
Nope
Green terror
Do you know if different members of Geophagus will cross breed if i stick them in the same tank?
It’s not common, but it can happen
