Good stuff guys! Love these episodes! Long term...can you imagine if Ohtani finishes his career as a pure DH, power hitter (kinda what he is at the moment), lasts till he is 40yrs old and ends in the 500HR club, 3 MVPs, and pitched!? This to me is why I am flipping AND holding some of his more rare cards. To reach the 500HR club, I need to see a player get to 250 HRs by 30 yrs old. Ohtani is just a tick behind that - which is crazy given he debuted at age 23. If season were to end today it would Ohtani and Witt for me. Judge is having an amazing season but what Witt is doing is just unbelievable. Witt plays in KC but he has a massive collector base and is VERY likeable and marketable. For the hobby that goes a long way
Chris here - I've stopped doubting Ohtani. Injuries and Covid definitelyy hurt his counting stats but I see no reason he can't DH into his late 30's and compile some nice big, round numbers
Great video again gents. Yes, nice to see Vladdie swinging good again. MVP just to early with everyone playing like they are. Whoever stays healthy (Jeff do say anything 😂) and can keep the ball moving wins. Check at the end of this month
Thanks for watching! Yeah, Vlad seems like he turned a corner. He's still only 25 so plenty of time to develop as a hitter. Maybe were finally seeing it!
Great consistent player who gets absolutely no love. I bought a few rookie cards of his in 2019 and they are still the same price if not lower. In real dollar terms it's a loss. He's a great example of the "there's only so much hobby love to go round" maxim. Ramirez another one.
I think the best Bobby Witt photo on a card is his Topps Rookie Debut where he just signed a ball and is throwing it to a fan with the sharpie in his hand🔥🔥🔥
If I were a betting man - and I am - the only bet I would entertain given the horrible odds is the one for Judge not to win. That means playing bookie on betfair and getting someone to take the shitty odds on Judge and then hoping he gets injured. It's tempting. I'm getting odds of 20-1 for him losing. If he wins I only have to pay out $1 for every $20 bet. P.S I laid ( betting to lose) a racehorse called Black Caviar for its last 7 races. It seemed like a good idea at the time. The horse retired unbeaten after 26 wins, lol.
Chris here - that's a tough loss! I hear what youre saying on Judge. Essentially betting on an injury, which isn't exactly unlikely. Also, remember Ohtani missed the last few weeks of 2023 and still won unanimously!
Chris here - agreed, although Witt doesn't have a Juan Soto in the lineup with him. Judge's gaudy offensive numbers will be too tough to ignore. Unless he gets injured
Bottom feeder here. I passed on the BWJ 2022 Topps Series 2 SP on comc early in the season when it was available for $60. It was horribly centered and was a PSA9 max. Still, I thought I was making a mistake at the time and now it's confirmed.
Chris here - hes been battling some kind of stress reaction in his femur. No idea exactly what caused it what's going on. But sounds like theyre hoping hes back in September. Maybe just in time for a playoff push!
Can't fit them all in. Just as an aside I sold a Tatis flagship rookie 410 PSA9 for $135 AUD( about 95USD) in 2020. Must be close to a record. And I actually feel guilty about that one. Wish I'd got rid of the Vladdy NN "SP" rookie at the same time. I just moved that on for less than the price it cost me to grade about $22 before fees.. I'm jettisoning a lot of crap right now. I'm putting all the proceeds into drugs and alcohol.
Soto never gets hyped from PSA and others like Witt Jr, Ohtani, Judge, Trout, etc.....The numbers do not lie...I think I would rather have Soto's numbers at age 25 than most of these guys....
Chris here - no argument at all. Soto started young and has stayed healthy. He's got a shot at some insanely high career stats. If he feels undervalued or underappreciated, take advantage. Personally, I think a lot of collectors are waiting to see if he stays with the Yankees. Seems obvious, but it hasn't happened yet. So it's not a done deal by any means. A long career in pinstripes is more valuable than a 4th team in 5 years.
Ohtani doesn’t play a position sure, but ketel marte doesn’t run the bases nearly as good or steal like Ohtani does. Not a complete wash but pretty dam close in my mind. Ohtani doing this while rehabbing a UCL adds to how impressive this is too.
I think Holliday will start pushing his hobby weight around soon and it will be all hands to the pump to keep Soto, Henderson, Vlad, and BWJ rolling. Judge and Ohtani are the genuine heavy weights of baseball. Only injury can stop Judge from another MVP. If I were framing a market he would be close to unbackable. like 1-50 odds. 42 HR's v BWJ's 22? Judge has a BA of .328 to boot. BWJ - and anyone else - should not even be in the MVP conversation at this point. P.S I can't believe local bookies are only offering 5-1 for BWJ for MVP when Judge is 1-20. When you have an almost unbackable fave like Judge the next level in the market should be at least 10-1. 5-1 on the off chance that Judge gets injured? No thanks.
If Ohtani wins it, I hope he at least bats .300 and has less than 150 strikeouts. I know the NL has a weak MVP field this year, but with the exception of the stolen bases, he hasn’t been doing anything exceptional. He’s been very good, but it doesn’t feel like an MVP season. Add that with the fact that he’s only hitting makes his resume lacking. But then again, someone has to win it. Reminds me of Brandon Webb’s Cy Young year.
Chris here - You're right that nobody has been mindblowing this year. No 40/70 and nobody doing what Judge is doing. But Ohtani's WAR number for a straight DH is extremely impressive. I do wonder if voters will want to reward a position player instead. We shall see. Ohtani is due a hot streak soon that could make all the talk moot. I'ld love to see him challenge for triple crown!
I think another thing that hurts Witt Jr. is the card design itself in 2022 is weak!! If you put the same images of him on 2024 or even 2019 design they would look way better, but the 2022 base topps design wasn't impressive at all...(for the record I think this hurts J-rod cards also!!)
Chris here - good call! 2021-22 Flagship designs weren't great. Not at all. 2018 was such a perfect storm of a huge rookie class and great design. The whole Topps Chrome debacle didnt help their cards either. Confusion isnt a good thing.
Idk when this episode was recorded but that fact y’all are saying if Arizona gets hot they’ve been the hottest team in baseball and cut the divison lead from the dodgers like 3 games during last week 😂

Chris here - there was a pretty lengthy investigation and his interpreter is going to prison for a long time. NO evidence Ohtani was involved. I know some people will never believe he was the victim, but that's what the evidence says.
If the dbacks get hot? They have won like 11 series in a row and just whooped the phillies. You guys paying attention? Marte is also a gold glove defender.

That's easy. There's not even an MVP market on Betfair.
The Judge/Witt MVP race is closer than I thought it was going to be but, I think Judge still has the slight edge.

Chris here - agreed, although Witt doesn't have a Juan Soto in the lineup with him. Judge's gaudy offensive numbers will be too tough to ignore. Unless he gets injured
Slight edge? I beg to differ. It's a huge gap and Judge needs to fall over the last fence to lose it.
