loving the cute little countryside layout. It's so nice to hear the level of enthusiasm and love you have for things you've made. I'm hooked on your vids and being filled with lots of renewed enthusiasm to crack on with mine. Cheers bud. p.s. your son does really good camera work. Hope he doesn't leave home too soon eh !!!!!
I love your scatter gun approach. It's how I am usually. Your layouts are testiment to the fact that you can have a railway on a budget, in a limited space and with limited time. Still looking forward to seeing your SNCF loco run. I look also look forward to more Tutorial Tuesdays :)
Wow!! You two have really been busy with modeling and layout construction. I love em all cause there compact, and very playful In modeling terms of course.
Some nice layouts being worked on there. The last 3 layouts look great. You do have a lot of layouts! Dormant ones as well. The loft railway is coming along. My loft layout is still in progress, after 6 years but I have an excuss I cannot see very well Nixon, my guide dog can see better!!
All of your layouts are good but that small one which I think you ran the cut down re-painted coaching stock on is my favourite, you have got everything that a railway layout needs in there, the countryside element, buildings, platform and mainline and all in about 12 x 24 inches give or take a millimetre. Well done Mike and Doug keep the good work of budget model railways going.
Have you thought of doing a video on your controllers. They look purpose built but obviously do the job. I have sidings off the main folded loop so have separate Gaugemaster combi controllers to power them as sidings. Because of you, and yes, it is your fault, I'm going to be building a much bigger shunting yard etc and will need to control that separately too.
that`s a brilliant video....really amazing the layouts you have built..i had wondered what happened to the continental one.....i really like the third one i think it was,on this video....as i say, brilliant stuff..all the best..Ade...ps going to send you an e mail shortly about something model train related
Great review of your work. Question, how do keep the “budget” in BMR when sourcing tracks? Look for sales,; rob existing layouts? At some point you won’t or don’t have track or points to place on a new layout. 🧐
I buy a lot of track second hand from bootsales, table sales and the internet, as well as mixed job lots and rolling stock. I have boxes of it ready for layouts. Some needs a clean up and some is brand new. Some rolling stock needs repair, other is ready to go. I have also bought job lots of railway from the local auction house. With job lots I take out what I want and sell the rest on Ebay or Facebook. It means I have paid very little, or nothing, for tons of rolling stock and track :) I also have bootsale dealers that look out for stuff for me. Honestly, had I not found Mike and Doug and the BMR channel I probably wouldn't have had the impetus to start, as new stuff is so dear.
Thus far I have been 100% Kato track which I now see is limiting and a bit costly. I like your process to have others look out for you. Buying the big lots and keeping what you want - worth the effort, apparently. Thanks for the wonderful and informative response. 😃
Second hand track (and flex track) is the way to go. Just be sure to do extra checks on the points. For example Fleischmann Profi with paint traces goes for about half the price of clean.
So many excellent small layouts, i'd love to see some in person, unfortunately your a long way off for me. Your design philosophy is brilliant, put the track down and see what fits round it. Thanks for the great video showing what you have.
Having several irons in the fire, so to speak, isn't a bad idea. You can move from project to project if you should get bored and not lose interest in the hobby.
" 59 inches by 39 inches , to the millimetre " you have to admit that's quite amusing ; )
Love those small shunting layouts and the BMR philosophy .
I use both metric and imperial so to me they are the same but yes I see the irony, thanks for watching
@@BudgetModelRailways I still do it on a daily basis , so I fully understand : )
Just found your channel, hi from a close neighbour, I’m in Old Town.

Thanks, glad we could help. I do all the filming now as he is off to Uni in September
Nice to see the micro layout again

These small projects are a slippery slope, haven't finished my first and I've started my second with 2 more in mind!
Small is beautiful...simple

Thank you for the very enjoyable tour of your layouts! I have received inspiration and helpful information for my own meager efforts.
So glad we could help, as long as you are having fun that's all that matters. Thanks for watching
Thank you, great video as usual. I always end up with some new ideas after watching these.
Your layouts are coming on like em 👍

Yes its my favourite too, I'm just planning a slightly bigger version
Will you do an other one for a year on?
Probably

We have a video on the boxes if that helps
I love that small brick warehouse I think it looks rather good
Many thanks
Lots of interesting stuff👍 great work

Richard answered it pretty well, we also use classic rail the second hand shop in Kent
I would love to he Kato track but its just too expensive and never seems to be about second hand

I have really enjoyed your videos and I have a question for you, please. Why do mone of your layouts have ballasted track?
Because ballast mat is quicker, simpler, cheaper and more reliable. I am more interested in quick reliable running than uber reality.
Great video.
Hey dude where do you get the back drops from?
They are from the Pecos range
Sorry that should be Peco

Selling a layout you say 🤔 I'd be very tempted.
If you sell the third layout you showed us would you be willing to partial shipping costs to the United States? I would definitely buy that layout.
I suspect shipping costs would be too high its very heavy
@@BudgetModelRailways , ok just wanted to ask.
Quick question about the giveaway with the second prizes is it just the shell of does it come with the chassis?
Just the shell.
Thanks
What do you use to make your station platforms?

@@BudgetModelRailways thanks :)
looking good chaps
A lot of work altogether
Just remember, if you want to model continental europe, you are in for a lot of cash :)
Don't get me started about that... 80 euro for a modern passenger wagon is a normal trading price.
@@ivovanzon164 I didnt say its unresonable. It costs a lot though. 80 € might be quite the handful for 1 passenger coach
Having several irons in the fire, so to speak, isn't a bad idea. You can move from project to project if you should get bored and not lose interest in the hobby.
Exactly
but what about a decent layout where you can actualy run decent length trains
Thats what the loft layout we have is for
