- According to actress Daisy Ridley who played Rey in the Star Wars sequels, no one is hiring her after the Star Wars films. Why is this? and will it change over time?
Instead of refusing to hire an actor of a movie that went downhill, don't hire the producers who made those movies.

But also, just to add. The extended version is FAR better than the theatrical cut of BVS. It was actually a decent story in my personal opinion.

That refers more to the core characters, not the supporting roles. Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing where also established actors, but not the central hero group. Plus the older character are naturally be played by actors who have a long track record already.

I feel sad for Daisy, she seems like very nice person and she also is a good actress. I saw Murder on the Orient express, and she did good. It wasn't a major role but still ok. I like her and she has shown she can do action scenes.

Couldn´t disagree more, after Star Wars, they couldn´t do anything important, Mark Hamill himself said to Carrie when she was complaining about not beeing hiried after Star Wars " you will always be princess Leia, dont you understand?!" Hamill said.
Star Wars is that kind of franchise that actually may put a hole in your carrer, cause there is nothing as big as it, so you may always be remembered as that main-character you played, and when other movies come in, you wont be able to take a leading role, cause ppl will always look at you as that main character from star wars you played.
H. Ford was the only one who escaped this, he was the exception, as he was casted to play on 3 movies in important roles that were completely different (blade runner, star wars and inidana jones). And that is the same thing Adam Driver is trying and probably succeding in doing (playing important roles in completely different movies while he was doing star wars). And thats why Ford´s carrer didnt just stayed in star wars.

And Anakin is literally the opposite of a Mary Sue. He fails at everything he tries to accomplish. Saving his mother, his wife... His whole life falls apart ... Compare it to Rey who never touched a lightsaber and beat pretty much everyone she face without an explanation. And stop with the sexist bullshit. Star Wars is not a platform where anyone could demonstrate they are a great actor/actress. Daisy Ridley is funny, self deprecating, intelligent and articulate in person. We SHOULD be seeing a lot more of her.
Unfortunately i doubt its her acting. After she slagged off the sequels a bit and said how it wasnt planned very well, i think most studios may not want her since she may do it with their movie. She deserves more roles though

I mean Oscar Isaac and John Boyega did so too, I would argue they were even more open about their dislike of the sequels but they are getting roles just fine. Her acting is fine but not too special, Boyega is better and Isaac is just different class.

I just realized, and this is so strange. Usually, when a character an actor/tress plays is horrible or I don't like how they're written, I subconsciously apply that dislike towards the actor/tress. But I didn't do that with Daisy Ridley, and it kinda makes me sad that she may not be successful after this. She's something from the Sequel trilogy I liked, even if I wasn't particularly fond of her character

She should do what Robert Pattinson did after Twilight. He disappeared for a while by doing small independent movies that focused on his character. So it highlighted his acting skills without the distraction of an ensemble cast. Look for those movies, they really show his talent, you'll forget he was in Twilight.

Not everyone. IMHO Rey's character was the BEST of the new trilogy leads: Rey, Poe, Finn and Kylo... and there wasn't much other great characters either, which says a lot about the writing. I just find the writing genreally failed to deliver good stories in Disney Star Wars. And yeah at times the writing sucked big time.

ridley is not and never will be a box office draw. her abilities are just okay, nothing worth noting, and i suspect that after a couple of years when her name isn't even remembered outside the SW community that her career will be filled with cameos, supporting roles, and indie flicks. eventually someone will drag her out of the swamp and put her into a bigger movie as a supporting character. she'll have a career, just not one we'll remember.

I just wanna say , Hayden Christensen is a great actor . He played his character perfectly , Anakin was an awkward young boy who didn’t have the best upbringing , so he lacked social skills , he was told to keep all his anger and pain inside him which caused him to be monotone and immature , Hayden portrayed that perfectly . Also i doubt it’s Daisy’s acting , she played Rey great , the writing just wasn’t the best ( like in the prequels) heck the writers and director were just making the plot up as they went along which certainly didn’t help the actors to fully understand their characters , Daisy had to read a script and act it , its not her fault the writing wasn’t great and that her character was underdeveloped , also can we just acknowledge the fact that she had literally no experience with professional acting before Starwars , it was her first film . I think that you can’t compare Hayden’s and Daisy’s performance because the dialogue in the prequels was intentionally Woody, said by Lucas himself, his “the king of Woody speech”. There’s a big difference between the magical feeling that the Woody speech gives to the prequels and OT than what the sequels get which is just poorly written. It truly saddens me that someone with such high capacity as her can get wiped out of the industry for playing a role in which she had no word on.

The scripts for star wars are not usually invested in character development. It focuses a lot with immersing you in the world moreso. The lines dont usually ask the actors do show deep emotion. They usually tell you what the plot is and then quickly moves pn the next scene

So instead he bought a farm in the middle of nowhere in Canada and became a farmer, and sometimes would leave his farm for some acting on the side.

The problem of Daisy Ridley is she's not good as actress. She worked with 2 directors in SW and her style was all the time: "open mouth - show no emotions", so she's not victim of "director's vision" like Sam Jackson was in prequel trilogy. Also if you want to play in those movies you absolutely can, just look at Adam Driver, I remember how in the cinema audience was literally laughing when he took off his helmet. After 3 movies nobody is laughing, there's just mad respect towards him, because he's a great actor even in such movies. I believe the reason nobody works with her lays deeper than "she's from shitty SW sequels", she's probably a nice person, but not anybody is born to be a good actor.

I think let's be real here: she gave such good, if not decent performances, but I think another reason she probably didn't get some roles is because there's already a high market for talented rising young actors. Daisy Ridley, by her age, is obviously competing with Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Kaitlyn Dever, Zendaya, Thomasin McKenzie, Anya Taylor-Joy, etc; and these actresses I've mentioned have been in some very profilic indie movies from say A24, Neon, Fox Searchlight, and IFC. Part of this also means a strong social media presence. Daisy's first debut was on Star Wars for god sakes, and that's either a curse or a blessing and she obliterated her social media because of Star Wars.
I do hope her the best, as she has far more better things to offer. I also hope she takes this as a lesson.
She's so rich she doesn't have to work for a long time. If she wants to act there are 100% definitely jobs out there for her. The real truth is she is demanding a huge paycheque, as you say competition is fierce and why pay top dollar for "good" acting with so little pull from her being a "star wars star", studios are going to avoid her until she is cheaper and that awful Star Wars sequel trilogy is forgotten about.

Star Wars didn't have in it at the beginning because Lucas had no money for stars. It's nothing unexpected to not have lots of things to play after Star Wars, apart from Harrison Ford none of the people in Star Wars became very successful.

Gary Oldman is recognised as one of the few in Hollywood with true range, even nicknamed the Character Chameleon because every role he had was completely different and yet still seamless. He was his own agent and was comfortable being uncomfortable in roles he had never done and didn't care for the payout, only the chance. Most Hollywood stars are given the same roles over and over and over and over again. Tom Cruise is always the confident action hero, Meryl Streep is always the dame with an edge and and no compromises, Jack Nicholson the edgy, contrarian eccentric. Typecasting is not unusual at all.

It happened to Deborah Anne Wolf after leaving Daredevil and now it's happening to Daisy Ridley after Star Wars.
It's a shame because many of these actors and actresses are really talented and deserve to have a successful career but are unable to because of x or y reasons.
Well, I heard someone make a good point about things like this. When an actor wins a golden globe, Oscar, or any big film/acting award, their career starts to decline. So few people want to hire big names because of the actor/actress being too well known or simply because they might be “too expensive”. This is probably the same thing with Ridley’s situation.
