One of the best mods I’ve done on my e39 540 was installing a wavetrac differential. I stayed with the stock 2.93 ratio but they offer lower gearing as well. Someone I know (wink wink) hit 172mph. The grip and predictably are amazing. Highly recommend
I can't wait for part 3. Yet again, another fantastic video. Now I have the devils job of which I'd rather sacrifice . Although the shame of getting wiped out by a modern hatchback is not somthing to tell the guys down at the pub.
Interesting Video Timm - I’ve always thought of the 8 as being a cruiser rather than a bruiser though and must admit I always feel relaxed when driving it rather than ‘ready to race’ 😃
Thanks Kev, yes, it can be both - once in 5th gear everything settles down and it really is a cruiser. But, I do like being able to muscle along sometimes!

Hi Timm, long story buymy diff on the M60 840ci is now whining and needs replacing. Does this upgrade definitely have to be from the 750 e32? Also Heasman Differentials say they can convert my diff internals to LSD and 3.15. Daily driver and car now off the road so need to get something sorted. Not even found an e32 750 diff yet, not in the UK and from a bona fide looking seller!
Great video as always Tim but just one thing and I don't want to get in between family and all that but your twin brother has stuck his boot model badges the wrong way around. I suppose he has bigger things to worry about now since you ran him off the road at the end there. Haha genuinely laughed at that skit 😂
Hi Timm, I’ll be popping in to see Matt Dennis for my 840’s exhaust at some point soon but am having trouble finding anyone who will swap my 2.81 ratio for the 3.15 lsd. Can you recommend anyone at all? Thank you for your super channel by the way👌🏼

Smaller diameter wheels and tyres, no that's not an option either!! Waiting for part 3, maybe an engine/Dme mod for the M62 TUB ??
THANK YOU TIMM ! This is one of the very obvious videos of course but to mention the rest of your work you are a genius! this is the work of a saint. Thank you very much for your informative and technical explanations. It really makes an impact when making a decision. I do have a question: I have 2001 740i M sport with the original M62TUB44 engine. I might need a new engine and thought why not swap with the 4.6 V8 (the M62B46), I know its the same engine block so it would very much bolt right in, I know it uses the same DME (Me 7.2) and I need to flash it with the 4.6 program this way it can still communicate with EWS, I know i need to change the oil pan. My questions are: sis this swap doable? If yes, do I need to change the transmission/swap the torque converter, or my transmission will work well? Are there anything else I need to worry about it/change in the swap?
Thanks Annas, that sort of question would be perfect for Bimmerforums.com on the 7-Series pages - I have never done the swap but I do remember someone else doing it on the forum
This is partly why 0-60 times are poor on some BMWs. My E30 318iS has a 4.10:1 diff which is ideal (seems a big number because 4th is 1:1, 5th overdrive 0.81:1 on most older BMWs). But it means I have to change into 3rd before I run out of revs at 55mph. It's also why my Z4 2.5 isn't much slower than a 3.0 in the real world.
