  • The all-new 2019 BMW M850i features a twin turbo-charged V8 good for 525 horsepower and 553 lbs-ft of torque through BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system. Can it compete with the Lexus LC500 and the Mercedes AMG S 63? Ryan tests the ride, 0-60 and tech in this full driving review.

I do have this car and with all the adds including adaptive cruise. The Apple Car play works great and even when I use maps on my phone the direction come up in the heads up display so I like it. Mine is a 2020

If you are serious about purchasing this vehicle, $1700 for the Adaptive Cruise Control package shouldn't be an issue. I currently drive a 540ix which performs REALLY WELL and would sell my soul for an 850ix and its performance.

I just sold my Porsche 2019 Carrera 4S and also my 2015 911 Turbo. Used car prices are inflated and too much $$$ offered to turn down a sale. They were excellent cars-but not really for longer rides. Also, there is fatigue watching out for speed bumps and pavement dips and curbs. I liked the BMW M850i so much that I bought a coupe with every possible option including the Ice paint option, giving a non-reflective look, which was unique. The BMW is loaded with driver assistance items and has an extremely luxurious interior. The comparable Mercedes rode too harshly on imperfect pavement. The M850i is fast, performs 90% of Porsche-yet wraps the driver into a better ride and a luxurious cabin. The price of $120,000 is fair when compared to the competition. And just forget the Lexus. Not even close.

Agreed, also went from Porsche to 850i Conv, more power, more comfort, great vehicle for the money.

Totally agree - the Lexus LC500 comp I keep seeing is absolute non-sense. They are not even in the same hemisphere.

What about the LC500 is so bad you won't even consider it? Kinda of a bulletproof power train and very high quality interior..... seriously, more curious than combative

great car and review but that $1700 for adaptive cruise control is just ridiculous.

In Germany we don't need adaptive cruise control, we look at the street and we don't have a McDonalds package on our thighs. ;-) But honestly, I prefer to drive the car myself. It's a driver's car.

If you drove at speeds on non-autobahn levels outside of Germany, you'd be thankful that you don't need to give 200% concentration going 100km/h and your car does

Great car if you can afford it with the add-on adaptive CC package and Apple CarPlay

If you can afford the car you can afford the options!! Truth be told though those are the last things I cared about when optioning mine, I still got them but I rarely use the systems for anything other than Bluetooth music.

I take the Lexus if I could afford a vehicle in this segment. To me it is organically beautiful and it’s V8 sounds glorious and reliability is Lexus so nuff said. As for 8 series series, not sure why this is not just a 6 series. Seems like BMW is just trying t charge more for a vehicle that could be named 6 series just as easily, I say pass and head straight to your friendly and reliable Lexus dealer for Lc500

Hint: It is 8 because of BMW 8 series history. After 6 came 8...

The 8 series is based on the 7 series chassis. The 6 series was based on the 5 series chassis. Hence the differentiating platform by number. This is essentially a 7 series coupe. I have a 2022 M850i Coupe and I highly recommend looking into it

Why turbo charge a V8? O well.. It matters not as long as you get rid of this car after 5 years or so as the plastics begin to break.

Have you driven one? It doesn't feel like its weight at all. Coming from an Audi S6 4.0T this thing feels ten times more nimble and flat through the corners. Beautiful GT car.
