While this certainly is Settlers of America set in Europe, this iteration feels better. Starting in the center and expanding out wards is easier than simply moving west the entire time. Also, two maps is a huge plus.
I'm from Europe but I prefer the American version of this game, with the American map. I think it's better because it's about trains and delivering goods. I think the American version it's almost the same and I love the trains, tracks and cards and the thematic :P
I bought this on a sale recently, but havent had time to play it. Seems the game fixes the more tedious things of the regular catan (luck of the die, pointlessness of trade etc). Cant wait to try it!
I never played Catan with the money variant, but it looks like it would discourage trades. Does this happens in this game(People refusing to trade because money will get them whatever they want)?
This is practically identical to Settlers of America: Trails to Rails, but with the theme changed to reflect European history. For players who enjoy Catan, these modified versions provide a nice change of pace (pickup and delivery, as Tom mentioned), but are not quite as good as the classic Catan game and expansions. Good, but not great.
The first and best expansion you should get is seafarers. It doesn't introduce many new concepts to the game, but vastly varies the board. A lot of careful thinking where you need to put roads, or conserving settlements for a better spot
Traders and barbarians is best, then seafarers. The pirates and explorers also looks good. Cities an knights is ok, but it really makes the game a gamers game, tif I want to play a game of that complexity I don't really feel like playing Catan.
The look on your face when you open a mystery game package that ships to your for review must be priceless sometimes.

I do not like how he dumps all the pieces out. U will have to pick them all up if they fall on the floor.
This is a european version of Settlers of America. My favorite catan variant.
I love when all the pieces are dumped out!
I can't stand it!!!
11 years later and no playthrough on youtube. guess this game didn't really stick

i never comment on youtube videos, but i have to comment to Al Malmsten. Teuber (in German) would absolutely be pronounced TOY-buh.
how to win ?
I am a board game pro
I gotta correct your pronunciation of Klaus' last name its T- ew (like few) ber but you pronounce the r like a British r Tschüss!
