GET MORE SALMON BITES WITH SLIDERS, Lake Ontario Salmon Trolling

- A video demonstration of how I use free sliders to get more bites when trolling spoons on Lake Ontario. The tactic of using a sliding leader with an additional spoon can be very effective, especially in the late spring and early summer when surface temps are still cool and the fish are scattered at a wide range of depths. On this trip, we actually caught two Coho salmon, and both came on our free sliders 👍
I don't get what the closed side vs. open side of the swivel means. Once it's in the water, isn't that swivel sideways, so the line is right in the middle of the swivel? So whatever way you put it on, it's just going to end up sideways isn't it? Or am I missing something?
I might not have explained it very well, but when a fish grabs that slider, the slider snap swivel ends up all the way down against your primary spoon snap swivel. It takes a lot of abuse down there especially when fighting a big fish. That's why you want the "closed" side of the snap swivel pointed down towards the bottom of the lake. If the open face of the snap is working against the other swivel, it is much more likely to fail.
@@MudSharkZ Oh, because it is rubbing on the top of the knot and/or other swivel! I get it now! I thought it was because it could somehow come of the line while it is just fluttering there, or because of the fish strike....gotcha! Thanks brother, tight-lines out there.
What company do you get your selection of Spoons from ??????
For trolling gear, I mostly hit Narbys Tackle at Point Breeze or Rt. 18 Tackle on Rt. 18 near Kendall, NY. I mostly fish Dreamweaver, Moonshine, and Stinger spoons.
@@MudSharkZ Thank you . I will look at it later in the day.. It looks like Bob's fishing tackle in Washington State. Everything on there website but cannot buy online. That sort of sux for me.. Oh well thank you for the info. Enjoyed your video..Do you know anyone else that has those Spoons.??
@@mauricebrown9094 Check out "Fat Nancy's" tackle shop. They have all those spoons, and I'm pretty sure they sell online.
@@MudSharkZ Yeah by online.. Whoop Whoop.. Thank you Pal..
I always learn something new. You said to buy good quality snap swivels. In what price range should l be looking?
You want good USA made ball bearing stainless snap swivels, should be around a dollar a piece and rated to at least 50 lbs. Don't buy the cheap brass ones.
Good info. What port are you fishing from? Most of the fish I have caught over the last week have come on a slider also.
I mostly fish between Point Breeze and the Genesee River. Yeah, sliders can be hot at times for sure. Thanks for watching 👍
Pretty cheap looking snap swivel!
Yeah I don't even remember where I got those, but I've caught a ton of fish on them up to 30 and never had one fail. I probably just jinxed myself though 😬
@@MudSharkZ haha right on. Stronger than they look.
Nice video....sliders are where its at
