Scotland in that weather is beautiful. I'm an Aussie but lived in the UK for a few years with my wife and son. We had a little Ford Escort popup camper, which was tall enough for anyone to stand up in when the top was up. We headed to Scotland for a week late in October and the weather turned stormy. Somewhere up near Cape Wrath (great name for that kind of weather) we stopped at a village and had to reverse the van into a space between two shops as the wind would have blown the doors off had we tried to open them out in the street. There was no way we could camp in that weather as the van would have toppled over so we found a B and B. When we got there the wind was so strong that it picked up our six year old son and blew him across the ground like a cartwheeling teddy bear. I had to go chasing after him and carry him inside. We fell in love with that wild stormy landscape and still have holiday snaps that take me back there.
We have just returned from a 14-day Scotland photo road trip. 12 of them were rainy. Despite that, we still managed to get a lot of great photos. Scotland is magical... especially the Highlands.
It's amazing to think that when you look at a landscape image in print you often have no idea of the lengths the photographer went to to capture that image. I realise that more and more as I watch your videos. Even being in the right place at the right time to capture a double rainbow wasn't quite like that. It was as a result of perseverence and hardship in horrendous conditions and I admire each of you all the more for that. I'll never again view your images without also knowing the effort it may have taken to capture them. All the more so because my camera stayed with me in a warm house during the recent storm! This is why you've reached 500k. Brilliant work.
Great video, despite the challenging conditions! Two things bring me to the comments section today... 1) You've called yourself out about complaining a fair bit over the past 12-18 months. In these recent videos I feel like you're dealing with horrible weather and/or challenging conditions, and not a complaint to be heard 👍 2) I'm really liking the image recap / slideshow you've started to do at the end of the video. Nice way to wrap things up, and personally I enjoy seeing the images a second time...especially back-to-back, which I find gives me a sense of place and a good feel for how the photography went overall.
Man, you are an absolute machine, the amount of work to put these videos on is not a joke, it is a one man crew, an army of one man, I really don’t know how you can do if and consistently. I guess the need of a financial stability comes to mind as it is not easy to be a photographer nowadays outside of UA-cam, but even to succeed on UA-cam is not an easy task by all means. People that criticize your photography are missing the point, we all have our preferences, they should appreciate the sheer amount of work you are putting in to bring us entertainment. Once again thank you and I always remember to click the thumbs up 👍🏻 before I leave.
I don't know if I have to apologise to you for saying this Thomas. But it's quit enjoyable too see you tossed around by the wind like that whilst you try to take a picture. :)
Thomas is a well known photographer, but I always believe his true talent is documentary Videography, or story telling. I am not discrediting his photography skill, but I would bet he is more videographer than photographer at heart. His photos are absolutely beautiful, but his videos are outstanding.
Wow those magic arms/suction cup setup is awesome. Might have to get something like those as I’ve always felt like the driving scenes were the most difficult to capture well (and safely!). The first scene with the light beaming through the clouds was beautiful.
Your level of dedication knows no bounds. As miserable as you all look, you make it seem like it's the best place to be. Thanks for always taking us along!
Great video again Tom. To quote Mike Lane (wildlife photographer and UA-camr) " the photographer who goes out in the rain doesn't get as wet as the photographer who stays at home thinks he will". You certainly made the most of the conditions and it looks like you were really enjoying yourself.
Lost track of your channel for a couple years and happened on it this morning. Was a nice surprise. Brings a sense of familiarity and comfort. Good to see you're still doing what you love
Thanks Thomas, I love the "in the van" drama.09:13 masterful minimalist image, well done, Thomas, lose the daggs (the hangers on) 18:00 a great compositions well done. 20:39 don't you hate it, someone else gets the shot of the trip,
For me the small cluster of trees in front of the mountain has it all .... incredible texture and light on the trunks and foliage, the sprigs of grass in foreground and the burst of light on the mountain... superb!!
Tom got some great shots as usual, but Paul’s shot is really awesome. Amazing how 2 photographers working in close proximity can get such varying results just based on what they were seeking out. Makes you realize how a location can have more potential than you’d initially think and different photographers unlock different aspects. Really liked this video
The perseverance of a landscape photographer is demonstrated within this weeks video as the images you ended up capturing were fantastic Thomas. Also big congratulations on hitting the 500k in subs too. As a long time follower on your channel it has been great to watch you each week, to go on the journey and to share in your moments and look forward to what's to come in the future
First impressions- dude your solo video production quality is just awesome! While the scenery in storm conditions may not be perfect, your camera work is top notch. I’d blame the weather on Adam, it matched his grumpiness.
Wow what a place!!! Heck that double rainbow was insane..what are the chances. He drone view of the trees next to the waterfall at about 15:50 Wow. That a place
impressed the camera didn't blow over at 9min, not even a shake. lover getting out in a storm so long as its safe. We had storm Barra hit us here in Ireland this week.
Looks like your friends had a wee dram of the proper remedy for cold wet Scotland. NW Scotland is magical and miserable combined. Very good video. I liked your picture of the small group of trees in the foreground the most. Lone trees give more Scottish feels.
Well persevered with not just the photo-taking, but the video making for this vid as well! 🌧 😅 Congrats on 500k mate. Huge inspiration. Your hard work paying off 👌🏼
What an epic video! Full of emotions and drama. I love your picture of the smaller group of trees with the nice structure in the mountain behind. Fair play how you reacted to Paul's image of the double rainbow.
just seeing that difference between light hitting on the trees at 18:30 and when the sun gets blocked by the clouds just really shows how important lighting is and what a difference it makes.
I absolutely love how three very talented artist-photographers share their journey and their secrets and leave their egos somewhere deep in those rocky crags you all step over. I think this only helps to make you all better artists; this harkens back to when all the impressionist/cubist artists, like Piccaso and Rivera, would hang out at a dingy French cafe and discuss what they were doing. So cooool. Thank you again for such an awesome video - take care and be safe out there....
Props. I woulda found the nearest hotel/motel with a built in cafe/pub and hunkered down. But then Paul may not have gotten that shot. What a killer shot! (yours were nice too).
Thomas, I just finished watching the three Scotland road trip videos. They are so good. Congratulations on having a beer sponsor! As usual your videos are humorous, informative, and emotional. I think I would watch them even if I weren't a photographer. Keep at it.
This one remided me of one of the first few videos on your channel SEVERAL years ago. I looked back but did not find it. Sitting in your car on a beach in equally daunting weather. So much more comfortable now in the van. Alwasy entertaining and informative. Thanks
I love weather like that but have not been brave enough to shoot in it. Congratulations on hitting 500,000 subscribers. That’s quite the accomplishment and a reward for your obvious hard work. The double rainbow was special to see.
That was a lot of fun! Your patience paid off on the small copse of trees with the mountain behind it, beautiful. You seem to be enjoying yourself a lot which is great to see. One of my favorite points in the video is when you're brushing your teeth looking across to the other van. I have no idea why it made me laugh. Keep 'em coming.
Even at the mercy of the elements, great photos!! Thanks for braving the elements and sharing the results! Love your videos! Look forward to them every time!!
Cheering Paul's double rainbow and giving us a view was nice! I still thought that your last two shots of the pines turned out well. Glad that you all put up with the rain to give us a great show! Cheers!
I love the double rainbow in Paul's shot, but I don't think the composition was optimal. That said, I know how these things are fleeting when in the field, so kudos to him for capturing it. It's there one second and gone in the next. I think my favorite shot was Tom's first one. Brilliant content! I hope to follow in your footsteps on day!
Welcome to Scottish Highland photography, Thomas! We go out and get every kind of weather thrown at us, but like you, we just put our head down and push on through. So glad you got some great images out of this, and as always came away smiling. Love your channel.
Wonderful stuff. Loved the images and the banter and even the suffering. Because, after all, a prize hard won is better than the one that falls in your lap.
Great to see a man happy in his work. ☔☔ And you thought the weather in Whitley Bay was bad. 🤣🤣 Like the images that you did get. Keep up the good work.
I know the piece about the ifootage camera mount system was ad lib’ed due to the weather, but I had always wondered how you filmed in the van while driving. That piece of kit is absolutely fascinating. Thanks for sharing.
Everytime I watch these videos, I want to do more of this. I used to do a lot of landscapes when I started out years ago. Motivation has went down but things are changing.
A well deserved huge congratulations Tom on the half million sub mark....half a million people!!! It sound even bigger when you say it like that. You must be chuffed to bits! I really liked those suction cups and could have done with a couple to stop me falling off my chair when I searched the price! Exciting video to watch and great story telling as always!
Fun times in Scotland! Love the suction cups by ifootage, good system. That is some serious wind. Beautiful scenes if if the sky is trying to keep you in the vans. Love the commitment! Not sure if I would be willing to venture and rather cuddle up with a book and relax in the storm. Enjoyed the video and great shots! Cheers, Thomas! Paul's shot was beautiful!
Not only did you brave those conditions to takes photos, you vlogged it with surprisingly good audio. I honestly didn't think we would be able to hear you when the wond was howling. Nice job on the photos and video. Congrats on half a million! Awesome double rainbow capture!
I've just returned from a few days up there, my first time in the area (I go out to the Hebridean islands a few times a year), and a fabulous place. Plenty of windy showers with calm periods (and rainbows) in between and beautiful snow capped peaks. Definitely having a longer break up there next year.
The images are absolutely fantastic Tom! They may seem simplistic and somewhat bland at first sight, but are very atmospheric, they have a very distinct air to them. And no rainbows or unicorns can give that!
Serious question and perhaps a ignorant one, where do you poop while you're on the road for that length of time out in the woods? The set up on your camper is great but if you need the loo for number 2, what is the set up if any?
Love the video. My one time I was in Scotland I had sunny weather the whole time. I feel like I got cheated the true Scottish experience. 🤣 Seeing Adam and Paul in the pop-up reminds me of whenever I see one of those vans in a windy spot like Death Valley I always think, “Oh man, they’re in for a long night”. Can’t wait to see more!
..spent a few nites in death valley getting near zero sleep from the constant rocking of the van and wind..was in early winter...damn near froze to death..moved into a motel
Great video, and a testament to the beauty of Scotland. I feel like your second tree shot could even be from Kenya, and the rainbow shot straight out of Iceland.
Love those crap weather days with a glimmer of hope for a good shot. It’s about the adventure. I would definitely want to have my own van rather than sharing, but bunking together in a small van could also be fun. Great shot Paul. A reward for a sleepless night on the uncomfortable car seats.
There is really something powerful about that shot with the three trees and the mountain behind. Great one! Was really worth waiting for the great lights and sky behind. And congratulations for 500k subscribers :)
Bloody marvellous content. Your photographs are so atmospheric. The van looks soooo cosy. BTW, when us northerners go over the border it’s not tarns and valleys - it’s lochs, lochans and glens. Keep up the great work 🤟🏽

We have just returned from a 14-day Scotland photo road trip. 12 of them were rainy. Despite that, we still managed to get a lot of great photos. Scotland is magical... especially the Highlands.
This is so cute
I think you made the most beautiful and cozy van
Immediately you can see the person did it for work, conscientiously, for himself
It's amazing to think that when you look at a landscape image in print you often have no idea of the lengths the photographer went to to capture that image. A double rainbow is hard to beat. Only by being generous and sharing it this way.
Great video, despite the challenging conditions! Two things bring me to the comments section today...

I've been thinking about how much happier and positive Tom seems lately too - great to see him back enjoying himself 👍

Great! I loved the storm kicking things. What's more incredible for me is the VIDEO'D banter, how you keep the camera rolling, so much fun Tom.
love Pauls shot but like Thomas last two photo's way more. Just something minimal about them and reflect the mood so well.
Wow those magic arms/suction cup setup is awesome. Might have to get something like those as I’ve always felt like the driving scenes were the most difficult to capture well (and safely!). The first scene with the light beaming through the clouds was beautiful.
Love the infectious enthusiasm even while you suffer for your art.
The Torridons never disappoint, quite an exceptional and challenging place in any weather. Polite reminder the Scottish word for Tarn is Lochan.
Ah the life of the landscape photographer. Enjoyed this in the dry, warm comfort of my home.
Lost track of your channel for a couple years and happened on it this morning. Was a nice surprise. Brings a sense of familiarity and comfort. Good to see you're still doing what you love
That frog toggs top has been the only thing i’ve found to truly stay dry on the trail…good choice
And my calm time begins with Toms photography video
Half a million subscribers Thomas, well done!!!
Thomas Heaton's excellent adventure. Three troopers come home with prizes. What an outing.
Thanks Thomas, I love the "in the van" drama.09:13 masterful minimalist image, well done, Thomas, lose the daggs (the hangers on) 18:00 a great compositions well done. 20:39 don't you hate it, someone else gets the shot of the trip,
Your photographs were very good but the shot of the double rainbows was a shot of a life time.
The sound in that insane wind is incredible! So clear. Well done!
That’s what l like about Scotland, you get the real grotty filthy weather, then it gives you the stunning beautiful landscape!
For me the small cluster of trees in front of the mountain has it all .... incredible texture and light on the trunks and foliage, the sprigs of grass in foreground and the burst of light on the mountain... superb!!
Massive congratulations bonnie lad on the half a million subs! You deserve every last one of them

Whoo hooo! 500k. Subs. Congratulations
Action Photographer. You're like a superhero or something. I loved this video

Watching this with my wife and kid while it‘s raining outside
Gavin has the power to stop rain - says so in his excellent book ! 😵💫😵🤪
Yes, Paul wins, and you all suffered for your art. Nice story, and congrats of 500K subs. You've worked hard for it. 👍 🥂
Pine tree shot was still a good one.
Wow what a place!!! Heck that double rainbow was insane..what are the chances. He drone view of the trees next to the waterfall at about 15:50 Wow. That a place

Love both of yours with the trees and also Paul's double-rainbow. Well done guys for enduring the storm
Beautiful images mate and thanks so much for including my image man 😀✌
What an epic video! Full of emotions and drama. I love your picture of the smaller group of trees with the nice structure in the mountain behind. Fair play how you reacted to Paul's image of the double rainbow.
Paul's image is just incredible. But, really the effort put into this video. Plus the 3rd and 4th image, Amazing.
The patch of trees with the light on them with the mountain in the background is beautiful. glad you stuck around long enough to get that.
Thomas Heaton... in his element... in the elements. Love it!
It's not always about the photos, but the all to relatiable journey to get them. Keep that content rolling. 🤩
Congratulations with 500k subscribers🎉😃
just seeing that difference between light hitting on the trees at 18:30 and when the sun gets blocked by the clouds just really shows how important lighting is and what a difference it makes.
the photo gods rewarded Paul for sleeping curled up against the wall! very enjoyable vid
8:03 Adam looking like old timey lighthouse keeper. Suits him :D

These videos are just so wonderful.
Edit: After watching the video, my favorite image is the first one. It is pure serenity in a frame.
I agree.
And congratulations on the 500k, nobody does it better than you!
Classic Heaton🏴👍🏴👍
That initial view out the window looks like the setting for many-a-horror-movie!!!
Paul’s shot is indeed epic!
But Thomas, your shots are awesome
As well !

I should add that Paul’s image was a stunner!
@@SimonBoothPhotography Thanks so much Simon much appreciated mate
@@PaulthomsonphotographyUk you’re welcome 👍
I can’t believe Paul passed up a chance up cuddle up to uncle grumpy 😂

Your video production quality in 4K is absolutely outstanding. Loved the vlog.
congratulations on 500K!!!!!! thats no small feat good sir!
Not only did you brave those conditions to takes photos, you vlogged it with surprisingly good audio. I honestly didn't think we would be able to hear you when the wond was howling. Nice job on the photos and video. Congrats on half a million!
Awesome double rainbow capture!
Lol. Scotland is Scotlanding you! Spare a thought for those of us who live here full time!
Thoroughly enjoying this series! Rain and wind seemed just crazy; way to persevere. Those suction cups were very cool. Looking forward to more.
I've just returned from a few days up there, my first time in the area (I go out to the Hebridean islands a few times a year), and a fabulous place. Plenty of windy showers with calm periods (and rainbows) in between and beautiful snow capped peaks. Definitely having a longer break up there next year.
I think you got some quite nice shots, but it is the adventure of getting them that makes them speical.
Seeing Adam and Paul in the pop-up reminds me of whenever I see one of those vans in a windy spot like Death Valley I always think, “Oh man, they’re in for a long night”. Can’t wait to see more!
Oh that's such a shame! We had weather like that on Skye and I felt exactly the same...sunshine and blue skies just doesn't feel right there!
..spent a few nites in death valley getting near zero sleep from the constant rocking of the van and wind..was in early winter...damn near froze to death..moved into a motel
Lovely shots Thomas ....... rainbows always steal the show
Great video, and a testament to the beauty of Scotland.

Wonderful images and video !!! Thanks Paul for the rainbow image.
Love it at 6:30 when Thomas parks up in what looks like full CSI oversuit 👌🏻
Fantastic video, I really enjoyed it and I could see the joy in all three of you despite the challenges. Cheers, Duade
What - no drone footage in the storm! What do we subscribe for :) Well done mate - a display of true determination!.
