    I'm in Southeast Texas in the USA. We eat cold salads in the Summer like potato salad, green pea salad, macaroni salad, but also chicken or tuna salad, fruit salads, and traditional lettuce/tomato based salads.

    My Oma taught me to make fleischsalat with red onions ethier finely sliced or finely diced. She used a mandolin for slicing the onions and a small food processor for fine dice but really blitzed to a fine chop, both sliced and chopped where rinsed under cold water in a sieve. Each branch of the family had it's own special versions of fleischsalat, frikadellen and potato salad, made for some lively family get togethers. My version is a hybrid of my Oma's version and coronation chicken. Tante Lilo gave us a real ear bashing about that, but the younger crowd seemed to enjoy it and it didn't stop her asking for the recipe. Thanks for the recipes brought back alot of fond memories, hence my ramble above, take care, God bless one and all.

    Hi Marta, another great vid. Although I enjoy all your vids they do bring a certain amount of regret. What I mean is after watching almost all your vids I now realize many years later that I didn’t experience a lot of German cuisine when stationed in Lahr, Schwarzwald back in early 80s. I used to dine out 1-2 times a week and my typical meal would be Jägerschnitzel - loved it, either with pommes frites or Spätzle. Did try other meals but that was my go to. Should have been more adventurous. Maybe next time 😂

    • @cooking-the-world
      @cooking-the-world  2 роки тому

      Oh James, don’t have regrets! You did enjoy your Schnitzel too, so those weren’t empty calories 😉 and if the regrets come when watching my videos you can try to turn them into a kind of fuel that will motivate you rather then distract you or make you feel bad.

      In my early twenties I spent 3 years living in London. Do you think I did try some British food? Of course not! I was working, studying and partying instead 🤣 sometimes I do regret that I wasn’t interested enough to try traditional food while living there but guess what, each time I am in London I go to British restaurant and try new dish. This makes my trip and I have always something to look forward to.

    Great video again! I also like eating cold salads with bread or pan-fried potatoes! Cervelat salad, mixed with onions in a classic oil & vinegar dressing, is well known in Northern France and stems from Alsace.

    I have found one little deli here in Marina, CA, that makes the fleischsalat. But the flavor changes every now and then. I have to find a German deli somewhere so I can get some of the meat so I can make it myself. I sure do miss Germany! Thank you for your great videos. Keep them coming! 😁👍

    These salads are new to me but would make a super lunch! Growing up we had ring bologna frequently, boiled, served as a meat with mustard. Cut into chunks it is also good in scrambled eggs. We used to buy it more recently in Pennsylvania. It seems to vary somewhat as to texture and maybe seasonings. Is this true with German ring bologna as well? Thanks! This is something new to try!

    • @cooking-the-world

      Oh Francis you will love it. Fleischwurst in a ring is also boiled here in Germany and served with mustard and mash potatoes. Delicious 🤤

    I do two wurst salads. One is potato salad with mayo-based dressing, just add the wurst. The second is seared wurst with raw onion and bell pepper strips with your pickle juice/mustard dressing.
    (:

    While I enjoy fleishsalat on bauernbrot a lot, I love wurstsalat mit bratkartoffel. Btw, have you ever tried making it with fleishwurst and pressack Bayern Art?

    • @cooking-the-world
      @cooking-the-world  2 роки тому

      No. That’s your recommendation?

    • @michaelwittkopp3379

      @@cooking-the-world In theory, any cooked meat or sausage can be used to make a meat salad. Just some more, and some less. Frankfurter wurstsalat is another very good one. (For the Amis, that's a hotdog salad.) I've also done it with steak before (Replaced the mustard with ketchup, and added onions...so a bit of a sweet and sour dressing.) How well pressack works depends on if you like pressack, but also the quality or origins of it. I use to make my own, and in a Frankischer art (weißer as we used all the blood for other sausage types). So, high quality, and it worked for me.

    I think I will bring you some cooking whisks when I deliver the pizza cutter to you :)

      Hahahahha!😂😂😂 the list of the cookware I need is growing! Actually Max would just pick the sausage and leave the rest, so he needs to eat veggies for starter and then meat/pasta as a second course. Toddlers are so funny.

    I've been making stuff like this all my life.
    I had no idea it was a traditional German dish.
    Today I made a sausage from beef kidney beef liver beef cheek and beef fat.
    About 12 pounds worth stuffed into pork casings.

      Oh that’s good to know. You mean Walter Popps Fleischsalat? Can I get it in Rewe? Oh lately I bought vegans Frikadellen von Garden Gourmet and I didn’t like them. But I will try the Fleischsalat, when I find it 😉
