    Bought mine about 4 weeks ago, I originally got a large but quickly decided I needed a medium? Decathlon changed it for me free of charge and were just brilliant?
    I adore riding mine, I have access to a much lighter race frame which I can accelerate from standing faster....
    However with my RC520 I am much quicker once rolling and it feels so much more planted round corners, I feel the weight works with me not against me just love it!

    Which mudguards do you have fitted on the RC520? Was there any problem fitting them?
    are there any other things you added or modified to make the bike better suited for winter?!?!?!?

      Great bike at a great price. Haven't quite got a couple of thousand in yet that would be a full season for me, let me know if you had any issues at all please for a heads up?
      Got mine from Sheffield Decath lads there looked after me really well especially Luke went the full hundred for me. Couldn't source one on line in a small but after much searching we got one sent from another store which was an achievement in itself from what i understand consumers as far as Indonesia and France were looking for stock availability, looks like we got first pickings on British Isles.

    I'm preparing to buy my first bike and I've narrowed my search during quarantine to the triban rc 500 and rc 520.
    I'm already planning on putting some mavic ksyrium tubeless wheels on as punctures I know I have little tolerance for while riding lol

      Afternoon thank you for the positive feedback and i hope your well in the current climate.
      Both bikes are fantastic... if it's your first bike and im thinking first road bike id go with the 500 difference being mechanical to semi hydraulics. I wouldn't worry about the groupset too much as your getting 'full' Sora which is great. I also wouldn't bother with buying another set of rims just yet...get the stock ones set up tubeless with a some gp5000 should b'rite! Start getting some mileage in and condition yourself, upgrades can come later once you've built your fitness up. Key factor would be just to get you out riding.

      Hey up Michael, cheers for the comments lad. Its been put away for the winter now after a good clean and lube, summer bikes out now. To further your decision i can say its been perfectly fine for me. Its not presented any problems at all however the hybrid oil/mechanical brakes will need a regular tuning as pads and cable wear and keep an eye on the oil bath down below for any leaks-not that ive had any. The bike is a bit heavy when fully loaded but thats what'll put strength in the old timber. Apart from a regular inspection and keeping the chain clean once a week (going out 3x week) aprox 130-150 miles a week in winter is absolutely fine. Im looking to change the tyres out for some lighter tubeless ones at some point possibly the GP 4 season when funds allow. Just size up the competition and if its for winter you cant go wrong lad...save your carbon.

      I'm the same as you, winter clunker is in hibernation now, apart from the odd occasion where it is best for the ride. Carbons are back out, and loving the difference like you lol.
      Used to heavy anyway, not exactly a lightweight myself, so a few kg is no hardship, plus the current winter bike is 10.5kg anyway, and only mechanical disc.

    Looking at getting the sora groupset as a winter hack. For £599 it seems a good deal ratherthan buying something secondhand. This is the best review i have seen , i like how you roll ! I have a pretty decent mountain bike , that i ride trials bike parks on , but its not doing my fitness any favours, not getting enough miles in . What do you think to using the 500 in the summer for longer rides would the weight kill the party in the sun ?

    • @anant6778
      @anant6778 4 роки тому

      In advance : apologies for the long answer, but I tried to do justice to your questions :)
      If you are just fine with Sora , just go for the RC 500 , it comes with Sora. This one comes with 105, which may or may not be overkill, as I'll theorise later.
      For fitness, provided you have the time, a solid road bike (to me at least) is second to none, because you can *go longer distances and put in more power with less noticable discomfort* , allowing you to burn serious calories even in an intense 40-45 minute ride and enough for weight loss if you ride ~ 1 hr every day (evenings or mornings, evenings feel better for me).
      Of course, losing weight depends on how many calories you eat. But a good *1 hr ride for the average adult male can burn ~ 1000 calories* at medium to high intensity and i reckon that isn't trivial, even if you make no changes to your food.
      *MTBs are not ideal fitness machines*, since they are primarily built for having fun going downhill on undulating trails - which consumes ~ resting calories only for all intents and purposes. They also tend to be *heavy and clunky and unwieldy* when trying to go fast on flats or climing up hills , both activities which burn good amounts of calories and so activities you should be doing a lot more of and hence need to be more comfortable doing.
      The advantage of doing this for fitness means you *dont have to chase lower weight or aerodynamics too much*. What you will need is an endurance (comfortable) geometry , and stiff ride , since these will enable you to ride for longer while still having a lot of fun. This - comfortable geometry and stiffness is easily delivered by the Triban 500 and 520, since they are touring bikes, designed to go longer distances.
      *So, 500 or 520 , and Sora or 105 ?*
      Well, its about predicting your *seriousness for the activity of road cycling/touring* . If your doing it just for the weight loss and wont be doing it passionately - if your goal is to lose weight but passion is to mountain bike or something else - then it makes little sense to go for the RC 520/105 since the slightly increased efficiency and feeling of smoothness aren't worth it then.
      If you predict that you'll fall in love with road cycling and stick to it for long beyond just weight loss, go for the 520 with the 105, well worth it.
      Disclaimer : the 500 and 520 are touring bikes, meaning they have holes for mudguards and racks/panniers and also have a more relaxed geometry for long rides. But, if you intend to race, and want absolute speed and aggressive geometry or are thinking of going pro, maybe a more race-style road bike works better than a Triban.

      If your inbetween sizes I'd check your 'ape' index...I know sounds funny however if you've a considerably bigger torso than bottom half of your body and your arms are long or there wing/ width span is longer than your actual body height id go with the large. If your stats are opposite to the above then opt for the smaller size. Ultimately get a leg over both of them if you can and see what feels comfortable. Also determine whether you would like smaller size for being slightly more lively as opposed to slightly more subdued. Hope this helps.

      @mullalife6764  6 років тому +1

      Hey up Caspar, sorry for the late reply brother. Thank you for the kind comments let's me know im bantering about the right things, cheers.
      To further your choice of bike i don't think you can go wrong with any denomination of the Triban. The question is how much mileage will you be putting in and the terrain that you ride on is a major factor imo. If you live in a hilly area with good elevation then you need to make sure you've got a compact gearset i personally think if you can average 1000ft per 10 mile then you need an 11-32 unless your a seasoned rider. The Ultra 900AF has an 11-28 and compact 52-36 up front which is still great and along with a 105 groupset it's a steal!
      Having said that the 540 geometry looks quite relaxed and aimed for the commuter and weekend warrior with its versatility of being able to attach guards, both the 900 and 540 have 11-28 on rear but the 540 has an RS 500 front chainring....... still great and you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference as i have both...105 crankset on me summer carbon bike and a RS 510 on the RC 520.
      To sum it up IMO i think the Ultra 900 has a more aggressive geometry is on offer atm and at a great price along with a full 105 groupset if you aim to ride in the warmer climate and the odd sportive and with a slightly more aggressive geometry then it's a no brainer.
      Get all three bikes straddled and let me know how it went.
      You won't go wrong with any of them, Lifetime guarantee says it all, just remember to check the total weight restriction.
      Hope this helps and doesn't cloud your judgement.
      All the best, happy new year!

      If your new to road cycling and want to try a bit of light gravel riding the wider bars would be a beneficial but £120 is alot of cash for a point of diminishing returns. Light gravel should be sufficient on the non gravel varient however as your new to road bikes you may struggle with the narrower bars. Peraonally i would stick to the non gravel and see how you get on and im sure youd be able to pick some bars up at a later date for alot leas than £120 should the need arise. Afternoon, sorry for the late reply. Our inseam is similar, my inseam is at the 78 mark but i have longer torso and arm length 'ape index'...I know. I'd personally go with the size small if your torso is similar however if you are in proportion and your wing span is roughly same length as your height or smaller then id go with the size xsmall.
      Hope this helps.

    Also... could this/is this a do it all/one bike only for someone (me) that wants only one bike, mainly for 11mile commute, involves half road and half tow path, to be used all year round? The value is sooooo good for what you get.....is this just as good (or right to compare this) to specialized diverge 2019 with 105? and it cost £1500. And one last question.... (new to road cycling) if I bought 2nd hand light road bike like 8kg.....is 2kg more on rc520 going to make a huge difference? My commute mainly flat (3 small hills) and I'm not racing. Advice appreciated. (I'm keen on this rc520 for price and I think versatility (tubeless rims, discs, eyelets, 105 etc)

    • @mullalife6764
      @mullalife6764  6 років тому +2

      I also looked at the diverge but for the value with the Triban you'll have money to spare for accessories for your commute ie panniers racks mudguards, clothing or upgrades.
      I also looked at the diverge elite and comp which had mechanical discs but above the £1000 mark for equal spec to the RC520. Diverge does have the suspension in the head tube trickled down from the Roubaix pos or negative?
      Imo i just think your getting more value and personally think Decathlon have got it right with this one.
      The market is alive with the one bike do it all models Ribble have gone the whole hog with the CGR range for 2019 (another great brand and bike).
      Both bikes come with a limited lifetime warranty so you should be good to go. Your question about the weight shouldn't be s problem for the commute or training ride, this will build strength into your legs. If you go for the Triban you could also put some money aside and save for a summer bike..... Just a thought.
      One can get quite overwhelmed when buying a new steed, try make a checklist of what you want in a bike for your budget, if you can tick all your boxes within the price and the 'genuine' reviews are good..... GO FOR IT and don't look back.
      If you haven't got the knowledge on purchasing a second hand bike id stay well clear. That's what lead me to the purchase of the Triban, i returned a Kinesis Racelight which was worst for wear and needed a couple of hundred spending on it after paying 400. Big risk for me it was just fortunate the seller payed for the return.
      Just like to say thanks for watching and supporting the channel. All the best.

    Hi Mulla . They say If you pay cheap you pay twice.. I’ve often found that sometimes stuff is cheap because it’s rubbish ,. My walking gear isn’t cheap, I once bought a cheap coat . it cost £70. It was rubbish. Leaked after a few hours. I took a chance , but it wasn’t to be. A Dyson isn’t cheap because it works although the new models are expensive. My walking coat is around £300 but worth every penny for comfort , performance etc, I wouldn’t expect a £10 T shirt to wash or look too good but I wouldn’t pay £100 to wear a Designer brand. I’d stick to middle ground .
    Ok I think you get the picture ,... I know advertising increases £££ but can you or anyone else on here say these bikes are good quality .?
    As I say I’ve always found that quality comes at a cost . Forget Rolex etc and all that snobbery ( IMO) but just why are these bikes so good, what’s the catch ..
    thanks

    grate bike shame about the wheels never in my life of over 50 years cycling have I come across a wheel so hard to change a tire to get off and then back on .remove that tire seating lip so the tire can fined it own way to seat itself .the true build wheels are tight but nowt like TRIBAN change the wheel set please

      Touche, Thats the one aspect i didnt revisit and comment on after experience and agree the wheelset needs to be changed i also found the tyres weighed some. Nevertheless good foundation to build personally found the bike very comfortable from the initial outset apart from the perch which i changed out for a spoon version. Thanks for comment :D
