Owning an Rc520 for over 6 months now, done 1968km. Can report I had 0 issues with it, not even a flat tire. Did have to change out the 12 cm stem for a 10 cm and later (after bikefit) even a 8 cm. Kept having shoulder issues, but all gone now. Pretty happy with it, would buy again.
I have a triban rc520, i have done 1100 km in total with. Also one trip of 120 km and i love it. You still have some cash to buy some good shorts + good tires!

@@raresmircea nope , so far fortunately no punctures. I don't know how sturdy are the tires. I ride mostly on tarmac with ~60psi at front and ~67psi in the back. YouWantSome? I fear that day too.. My 500 is coming in a few days, i don’t have money for anything else nor for a tire upgrade in the shop.. I’ll gonna squeeze that saddle out of shape with my buttocks every time i’ll encounter rough road or potholes
@@raresmircea I have ridden more than 1500 kms on RC 500. And I'm in India, where roads are just impossible to ride on without a puncture. I have had just 1 puncture till now and I have ridden rough terrain with it. The puncture was easy to repair. Go for it. You'll love it.
@@raresmircea I've had mine for about 6 months now. 1200km ridden, mostly on roads but not the best roads and all suring the last 3 months. Only 1 puncture so far. Had to adjust the gears and brakes slightly, but that's normal. Did change the saddle for an old Charge spoon that I had, which changed it to a more comfortable ride, althought the supplied saddle isn't too bad at all. For the price, it's hard to beat, but now, after getting the cycling bug, really want to upgrade a few of the components. Oh, and it looks really good in the blue......
I'm always disappointed when brands swap out the brakes. As a price saving exercise the cost reduction is minimal, but the performance reduction is significant. The first part I upgraded was the brakes. £70 upgrade, massively increased confidence. The 105 calipers are fantastic value for money.
I wanted to disagree with other reviews saying the Axis brakes on the Allez Elite were poor. But took the plunge and bought 105 brakes and it was a night and day difference. Can also recommend swapping out the Espoir Sport tyres for a pair of Continental GP5000. Much faster and feel more comfortable.
Neal Foster it’s just that the allez brakes are flexy. This means under light braking, there’s no big difference. But under heavy braking, your lever will hit the bars before you get enough power. Also, depending on your pad choice, the calipers will vibrate fore and aft a lot more. So it’s not a big deal for people living in flat areas or who aren’t doing big descents.
@@404nobrakes Might that explain the rear brake cable rattle I get under braking too if there's a lot of caliper vibration? Other than that the bike is awesome and a tangible improvement on the previous generation Sora equipped allez I had.
Decathlon (Triban and Van Rysel branded) bikes offer great value for money for those who aren't concerned with brand snobbery. For example, the new Van Rysel EDR AF, which is marketed as an endurance bike, has identical stack and reach with the Specialized Allez Sprint, aluminium frame and full 105 groupset. A viable Allez Sprint alternative for £850, as compared to the Allez which costs £1200-£1800.
I’ve been waiting for a Canyon AL7.0 to come back in stock but this bike is extremely tempting! Never heard of Van Rysel until I saw you post, cheers :)
I have bought the Van Rysel EDR 105 and can confirm is a cracking bike. Good frame 105 all round even crank and brakes. Decent wheels and tyres and the finishing kit saddle have kept that instead of using my Selle Italia it’s that comfy.
Specialized are just fantastic bikes though, I had a 2010 Allez (stolen last week) and i barely ever cleaned it, had chips off the sprockets and it still felt like it put power into the road and alot better than friends 2014 Giant. I did 100 miles on the Allez with no issues at all. Incredible bikes.
I got a used 2013 Allez a couple months ago super cheap and I love it. It didn't come with the 105 groupset that's on the newer stuff but I planned on upgrading that this off season. It could use some other upgrades too, but no rush since all my triathlons are likely cancelled for the year.
Just bought a Triban Womens RC520 as my first brand new bike on a budget on the strength of Bike Radars review. Looking forward to riding it. The kit it has is awesome for the price but aesthetically it looks a bit plain when it comes out the box so I've had my friend make some decals and now it looks great 😊
These bikes are good value. I have a problem with "mid-range" bikes, especially MTBs. The Problem: mid-range bikes usually come with more expensive drive-train and brakes. I would prefer "mid range" bikes coming with better wheels, and better forks (if MTBs)! Wheels and forks (especially in MTB) make a bigger difference, and drivetrain/brakes are more likely to be replaced.
I really want a ~$2500 CAD mtb with the cheapest reliable clutch drivetrain (microshift advent 1x9 for now) and the best possible frame/suspension with the saved money. The cheap eagle stuff is heavier, more finicky and works worse anyways.
All great bikes, probably a few more available in the price range too BUT if you can check em out in person. For gravel use get one with disc brakes to allow bigger tires. Rim brakes make a lighter bike if you want to go fast.
Pleasantly surprised that you save the allez elite for last. I myself have a base level allez and it already is amazing for what it is! I’m definitely considering getting the elite as my next upgrade
They are NOT DT SWISS wheels. They are Bottom end DT Swiss rims slapped onto a cheap set of Chinese hubs. Real DT Swiss wheels have hubs made by DT Swiss. It's one of the many ways specialized saves money and fools customers into thinking they are getting more for their money. Like the fact their "105" group sets come with cheaper less good Axis brand brakes and often cheaper Praxis cranks rather than the 105 shimano cranks. But they still sell the bike as "comes with 105 group set" If I sold you a Mercedes with wheels off a KIA and a engine out a Ford I think you'd be pissed? But we let the Specialized get away with doing just that?
Ha, that comparison at the end was nice since one Mercedes-Benz A class model is powered by a Renault engine. And yes, you are right. The "special" DT Swiss wheels are often branded as "1850 spline" (not 1800) which you can't buy from DT Swiss as a normal customer.

Torn between the Specialized and the Canyon. The thing that puts me off the specialized is that it's only got parts of the Shimano 105. I think I might go with the Canyon.
If you want to upgrade brakes, you dont have to switch both, just replace the front brake with like Ultegra dual pivot break. Rear break doesn't really matter, no matter how low quality it is.

I bought my first road bike a few weeks ago for 1200$. A trek domane al3. Should I have put that money else where?
Trek domane is better than most of the bikes in this video. Good choice. Enjoy
No. It's a good bike. Ride it & enjoy!
@@santoshsubudhi9707 you sir are now my hero
Bought a Canyon AL 6.0 Disc for €750... dont ask me how but i did... I WIN 😄
How? 😅😅
Virgin Allosaure they messed up the discount 😂😂
@@byrnesy919 what a idiots they are😂
Or maybe they are nice😁
@@virginallosaure8929 nice maybe, but they are flat out busy so nobody noticed
That's half price! Wtf teach me your ways please
this "winner" has unbelievable poor quality brakes and wheels. Rest is ok
My friend and I had those wheels and brakes. Can confirm, we both had to replace them.
Torn between the Specialized and the Canyon. The thing that puts me off the specialized is that it's only got parts of the Shimano 105. I think I might go with the Canyon.
also can confirm with a specialized allez comp 2013
If you want to upgrade brakes, you dont have to switch both, just replace the front brake with like Ultegra dual pivot break. Rear break doesn't really matter, no matter how low quality it is.
@@shaman2384 you buy a new bike just to start upgrade? seriously? then go for used one, cheap one and then add upgrades
Been riding an Allez Elite for 2 years. It’s legit.
Why would you want that Vitus if it's heavier and has slightly lower spec components?
For the sake of a frame and further upgrade. But in this case, I would prefer Claris or Sora equipped bike.
Iiii surely the best bike is no 1 ,never mind
Tribans a great bike though wheels are heavy and spokes snap a lot , decathlons aftermarket service is appalling
Nah you got it right👈👍
I wanna start road cycling but im scared of getting hit by a car, is it as dangerous as i think it is.
Get yourself a hi-viz shirt, bar end mirror, cygolite hypershot 350 and a headlight and you'll be good to go. I am visible from an extremely far distance.
Why do some companies sell different specs on bike frames in different countries. i.e. Canyon in your video not selling the same version in the US.
Heavier riders?
weights?
I think you should consider polygon when it comes value for money
Was my cube attain race a mistake 😩
What makes you say that?
PrawnSandwich only because it wasn’t featured 😂. I like it so I guess that’s all that matters 😆
FM066SL with R8000!
English pound?
Sorry but specialized Allez e5 sport with coming with the sora group set and high prices 😄😄
Do you guys have a top £1500 bike category? Does anyone have any experience with the planet x pro carbon (£1500)? How would that compare to these big brands?
In the philippines rc 520 cost about 750usd.
I picked up a giant contend SL2 for £950
Not having the Canyon Endurace AL 7.0 in US makes me regret coming here.
It's too bad road bikes are usually so boring looking. The Triban looks pretty good in blue, though.
It's funny how almost £1000 is now seen as budget level for a proper bike :o Jeez inflation creeps up eh.
No Cannondale Optimo?
Tiagra 10 speed group (still good), compact cockpit, SuperSix EVO carbon fork (BallisTec), MUCH better welds than the rest of the field, CAAD13 geometry & SAVE suspension @ £1033.
No Ribble ? Missed a trick
