Touche, Thats the one aspect i didnt revisit and comment on after experience and agree the wheelset needs to be changed i also found the tyres weighed some. Nevertheless good foundation to build personally found the bike very comfortable from the initial outset apart from the perch which i changed out for a spoon version. Thanks for comment :D

Haven't had a single issue with the bike, cleaned and lubed regularly. Not a single puncture either. Nice comfortable ride. Only minor point is the brakes are not as powerful as full hydraulics but for the price this is a minor niggle.

In advance : apologies for the long answer, but I tried to do justice to your questions :) If you are just fine with Sora , just go for the RC 500 , it comes with Sora. This one comes with 105, which may or may not be overkill, as I'll theorise later. For fitness, provided you have the time, a solid road bike (to me at least) is second to none, because you can *go longer distances and put in more power with less noticable discomfort* , allowing you to burn serious calories even in an intense 40-45 minute ride and enough for weight loss if you ride ~ 1 hr every day (evenings or mornings, evenings feel better for me). Of course, losing weight depends on how many calories you eat. But a good *1 hr ride for the average adult male can burn ~ 1000 calories* at medium to high intensity and i reckon that isn't trivial, even if you make no changes to your food. *MTBs are not ideal fitness machines*, since they are primarily built for having fun going downhill on undulating trails - which consumes ~ resting calories only for all intents and purposes. They also tend to be *heavy and clunky and unwieldy* when trying to go fast on flats or climing up hills , both activities which burn good amounts of calories and so activities you should be doing a lot more of and hence need to be more comfortable doing. The advantage of doing this for fitness means you *dont have to chase lower weight or aerodynamics too much*. What you will need is an endurance (comfortable) geometry , and stiff ride , since these will enable you to ride for longer while still having a lot of fun. This - comfortable geometry and stiffness is easily delivered by the Triban 500 and 520, since they are touring bikes, designed to go longer distances. *So, 500 or 520 , and Sora or 105 ?* Well, its about predicting your *seriousness for the activity of road cycling/touring* . If your doing it just for the weight loss and wont be doing it passionately - if your goal is to lose weight but passion is to mountain bike or something else - then it makes little sense to go for the RC 520/105 since the slightly increased efficiency and feeling of smoothness aren't worth it then. If you predict that you'll fall in love with road cycling and stick to it for long beyond just weight loss, go for the 520 with the 105, well worth it. Disclaimer : the 500 and 520 are touring bikes, meaning they have holes for mudguards and racks/panniers and also have a more relaxed geometry for long rides. But, if you intend to race, and want absolute speed and aggressive geometry or are thinking of going pro, maybe a more race-style road bike works better than a Triban.

Yeh Specialized makes some grand cycling gear however at a premium usually so £25 quid is a steal..get it bought. Id also look at Planet X & Decathlons website for great value and quality gear at a budget.

Absolutely fine for a starter bike pal. Go with the sizing on Decathlon website and you should be fine for commuting, light off road, gravel and road riding. Have a gander at the rc 500 aswell black version... think that would be a great starter bike for the money. Hope this helps. Cheers

Could be other factors why you are getting a different size frame. Size calculators will be taking your stern, arm length, thigh, even foot size and other variables as opposed to just height and inseam. Im at 5ft5 and could have possibly gone smaller but my wing span is large and the larger size gives me ample room in the cockpit. Hope this helps

Afternoon, sorry for the late reply. Our inseam is similar, my inseam is at the 78 mark but i have longer torso and arm length 'ape index'...I know. I'd personally go with the size small if your torso is similar however if you are in proportion and your wing span is roughly same length as your height or smaller then id go with the size xsmall. @@paulterry474 Ah great news...great bike 👍🏼. Saddles are usually subjective I get on great with mine compared to a premium saddle on my race bike. Stick with the saddle and see if you get accustom to it. Congrats on the steed.

If your inbetween sizes I'd check your 'ape' index...I know sounds funny however if you've a considerably bigger torso than bottom half of your body and your arms are long or there wing/ width span is longer than your actual body height id go with the large. If your stats are opposite to the above then opt for the smaller size. Ultimately get a leg over both of them if you can and see what feels comfortable. Also determine whether you would like smaller size for being slightly more lively as opposed to slightly more subdued. Hope this helps.

Go for medium , I am 5 ft 8 and bought size medium , seat can go up another couple of inches ! Size large you probably have seat post at bottom of stem ! My inside leg is 30" ! Hope that helps

Afternoon thank you for the positive feedback and i hope your well in the current climate. Both bikes are fantastic... if it's your first bike and im thinking first road bike id go with the 500 difference being mechanical to semi hydraulics. I wouldn't worry about the groupset too much as your getting 'full' Sora which is great. I also wouldn't bother with buying another set of rims just yet...get the stock ones set up tubeless with a some gp5000 should b'rite! Start getting some mileage in and condition yourself, upgrades can come later once you've built your fitness up. Key factor would be just to get you out riding.

If your new to road cycling and want to try a bit of light gravel riding the wider bars would be a beneficial but £120 is alot of cash for a point of diminishing returns. Light gravel should be sufficient on the non gravel varient however as your new to road bikes you may struggle with the narrower bars. Peraonally i would stick to the non gravel and see how you get on and im sure youd be able to pick some bars up at a later date for alot leas than £120 should the need arise. Thats my tuppence on the matter hope it helps. Cheers

@@stamenkd1 I think you could then go gravel with RC500/RC520 since the extra space on the fork you might have tyres with 35 or 38 mm wide is still fit. Wide enough for gravel.

SeikoFPS , I’ve just bought the rc120 so same size chart, I’m 173 and it was defo the small for me, med was to much of a reach, put the seat back 20mm and spot on.

I take it you've tried loosening the screws on the Sidis. You should aim for 3 to 5mm clearance at the front of the insoles.

I would say they mould to your foot and become a little more supple however I don't think they'll give too much in length.

@@mullalife6764... in length they are fine; I got about 4 to 5 mm clearance at front.is just the toe box that feels a little too snug.

@@joselarrarte6964 I'd go for the bigger size if you can dial the fit otherwise try a different brand, shimano usually have a bit more 'wiggle' room in. I have a budget pair for autumn winter that have a little more room in for thicker lambs wool socks. Hope this helps!

Hi thanks for the positive feedback, I'm afraid I can't comment on the GripGrabs Hi Viz. Riding in minus 5 is quite tough going. I personally would opt for lobsters in really extreme conditions along with liners. Having said that try the gripgrabs and get back to us I may buy some and review in the channel. Thanks for supporting the channel. Sizing on the Hump is spot on, chest size large should fit a 40 to 42 with a little room to layer or have enough room to wear over your commuting cloths. Hope this helps.

Hey up Michael, cheers for the comments lad. Its been put away for the winter now after a good clean and lube, summer bikes out now. To further your decision i can say its been perfectly fine for me. Its not presented any problems at all however the hybrid oil/mechanical brakes will need a regular tuning as pads and cable wear and keep an eye on the oil bath down below for any leaks-not that ive had any. The bike is a bit heavy when fully loaded but thats what'll put strength in the old timber. Apart from a regular inspection and keeping the chain clean once a week (going out 3x week) aprox 130-150 miles a week in winter is absolutely fine. Im looking to change the tyres out for some lighter tubeless ones at some point possibly the GP 4 season when funds allow. Just size up the competition and if its for winter you cant go wrong lad...save your carbon.

@@mullalife6764 Nice one mate, pretty much what I wanted to hear. I'm the same as you, winter clunker is in hibernation now, apart from the odd occasion where it is best for the ride. Carbons are back out, and loving the difference like you lol. Used to heavy anyway, not exactly a lightweight myself, so a few kg is no hardship, plus the current winter bike is 10.5kg anyway, and only mechanical disc. How do the brakes feel in comparison to rim or mechanical disc? I have seen some saying there is a lot of lever travel before bite.

@@MichaelSnasdell Brakes have been fine, i suspect the lever travel would be determined with the cable stretch and pad wear again give it a little adjustment or get it done by a decathlon store. Decathlon have published more info on this for the RC 520 gravel (same frame) and say: "700x36 or 650x42 tyres can be fitted on the wheel"

Hola Joseph, Thank you for your feedback, it is much appreciated. As far as my sizing goes, my chest is up at the 41/42 and waist at 36 and the size XL in 'Gabba 3 only' gives me somewhere in-between a race fit and active fit with a base layer and is not loose and does not make a flapping sound in the wind. Based on what you say i think the large would be better size for an almost race fit for you. I have also had the perfetto jersey in the past and that was a size large which fitted snug with a base layer. I think the Gabba 3 is sized slightly smaller than Perfetto jersey. Try both of them in store for a better idea. Hope this helps and thank you for your support.
