Discovered Jim Croce and his story just 1 month ago, and now I can’t stop hearing his voice and his beautiful songs. Such a talented man. Every time I hear him I get a bit emotional, only special music can do that. Thanks Jim.
I think too many people get distracted by the lyrics of these great songs, and just hear the accompaniment of the guitars. These two men were extraordinary musicians. I don't know if I've ever heard two that compliment each other as well as these two do. The picking on the song "Operator" is a thing of beauty. No matter where Jim takes any of his songs, Maurie is right there, right on time, coming in with his part.
Lying in bed, recuperating from back surgery at 77, and listening to Jim and Maury perform their songs helps me heal but my heart hurts for Jim’s family. His death left them and his fans with a piece of their hearts missing. I know the ache, I lost my wife 6 years ago and it’s the same emotion they must feel. God bless Maury and Jim. RIP
One of life's cruel ironies -- for SIX long years Jim searched for success, tirelessly recording and performing. Then he hit it big with a couple albums in his final year of life (1972-73) but was killed in a plane crash before he really had much time to enjoy the fruits of his many labors. RIP, Mr. C. Thanks for all the great songs and being true to yourself.

Mr. Croce passed away 3 days after my 16th Birthday. I remember hearing about his plane crash on the radio after we had just moved to Colorado Springs. I live near Frankfurt, Germany now and I in November 2022, I was able to watch another of my childhood favorite performers James Taylor in concert. Being 66 yrs old now, and how I would have loved to see Mr. Croce perform. I now find out that he was in the army, so I say that from one veteran to another, thank you Mr. Croce for your service. I will always love your music sir.....
My buddy and I were 16 years old in 1972 and we decided to hitchhike that summer from NJ to Provincetown inspired, in part, by Easy Rider. One evening, we were invited to the north end of town for a small party. An hour or so into the gathering, our host pulled out a "bootleg" cassette tape and said, "you have to listen to this guy, he's the real deal and going to make it big". Lit up a joint, kicked back on couch, and blissed out to Jim's genius.
Im 24 years old and I play Croce’s music almost everyday. I was born decades after he passed away yet his songs are still so relatable. Its so sad we couldn’t have gotten more music from him
Jim left behind his music and his son A.J. Croce who now performs his dad's music; we just saw "Croce plays Croce" last night in OKC and very much like his dad, A.J. tells good stories....
Jim and Maury are legends, genuine and authentic as you can get, been listening to him since I was 12 and now I am 62,never get tired of listening to him.RIP Jim and Maury 😢
As a 22 year old, there are few musicians who have had the same impact on my life that Jim Croce has had. I've got all of his records on vinyl, and they're the most played in my collection. There's never a bad day that his music can't immediately turn around. A soft and beautiful voice, with wonderful guitar work and truly deep and beautiful lyrics. It breaks my heart that he was taken just as the world was getting to know him. Rest easy Jim, and know that nearly 50 years later, your music is still changing peoples' lives.
Saw Croce sings Croce concert March 2024 and brought back so many memories. Says a lot about his talent that he's still thought of today. I still remember when I heard Jim Croce passed. I was a young teenager but just devastated. Amazing talent - gone WAY too soon.
He sure did! I was watching how he watched Croce..... I was reading Croce's bio on Wikipedia, and when they started Croce backed Mueleisen, and then they switched. I admire people who can gracefully defer to another and take a secondary role. The guitars were really duets, but MM holds his voice back to be backup and not a co-star.
Picked up guitar when I was 5 1968, got really interested in 1973 at 10 years old. Listened over and over to Jim, practiced hours and hours in my bedroom every night. His songs and strumming taught me how to play the guitar!!! Not sure if I can play it good but learned a whole lot from pickin' and a grinnin'!
Jim has been gone over 50 years now, but he is still my favorite artist of all time! He and Maury took songs and turned most of them into classical masterpieces!! RIP Jim and Maury! You are both missed and loved still!! ❤❤❤
Jim Croce was truly a one off. Never before, and never since has there been anyone like him. His style and voice were his alone. I was just getting in to his music, and then he was gone. It has been 45 years and I still cry every time I hear his voice. Rest easy troubadour.
Canuck Fundy I’m old enough to remember when Jim was on the radio and Sinatra covered his songs. He was pretty popular. But I have to agree with you. I’ve always had a hard time trying to figure out what category he fits in. If he were born a bit earlier he would have been a folk music star. His songs lyrically remind you of Woody. But he doesn’t really sound like folk. He’s not really Country either. That song “Willin” by Lowell George fits him.
@@bdcowboy22 To me, he's Americana. More pop than 'folk' implies. Not 'country'. Woody Guthrie and Arlo Guthrie both epitomize that genre. Don McClean American Pie. Neil Diamond.
Yea, they definitely "broke the mold" after they made Jim. I was an impressionable 16 year old kid when he died; it hit me hard because I was the only one amoungst family and friends who "got him".
I was 13 the day he died, I cried so much I kept thinking this just can't be true. He just got started please be wrong. When I got older and learned about him and his family the loss of him was so much more. It still hurts but I am grateful we have his music and they have his memory.
I was only six when he passed away! I heard his music on my sisters turntable and she just got the record! The album was Photographs & Memories! Boy what memories I have of those days listening to those songs back then and still to this day they don't get old!
Captivating. Emotion provoking. Level right where you are. Addictive, underrated, humbleness leaking out of his pores. The LEGEND. We're all better human beings because of Jim. 👍❤️👍❤️☝️☝️☝️
I just started listening to Jim Croce in the early 70's and I was crushed when he died. He spoke to my soul and every emotion. I still love listening to him at 68.
I was 8 years old when these two geniuses were taken from us - 😢 August 2023 still listening, their music is timeless. Their harmonies were exquisite and this was live.
Ah, brings back memories of seeing him in Amsterdam, the summer before he died in plane crash. He was fantastic and the world missed out a GREAT TALENT.
Jim Croce writes lyrics and incredible melodies that grasp you by your soul, making you feel a myriad of emotions, from happiness to despair, energetic to surrender, a gem of a true artist taken from us all way too soon. RIP, Jimmy. 👍❤️☝️
I was already a fan of Jim's. I was with a couple friends walking to high school on the morning of September 21, 1973 when one of my friends matter of factly said, "Did you hear? Jim Croce got killed in a plane crash". My heart sunk. I really liked his music. I still do. Not much more to say.
22 years old and i've yet to discover an artist that's as well rounded and puts a smile on my face as much as Jim Croce. Love the storytelling, man was made to be in show business. R.I.P to arguably the best
I like hearing young people embrace older music. Not that I'm an old man just yet (I'm 42). But I worked with some early-20's kids at my last job and one day the P.A. system died, so I brought in an old portable 8-track player and some of my music. Two of the boys in my department almost immediately took to **my** music. One commented "I didn't know music could actually be FUN!" I guess listening to the garbage, dirges and just general horrible modern music, old stuff is definitely more fun. The other lad confessed to me that he LOVED older music, but to "fit in" with the crowd, he couldn't admit to liking older stuff for fear of being outcast. I could relate to that because even when I was in high school, my car had an 8-track deck and I played nothing but the golden oldies. Other kids had cars with cassette players or the rich kids had CD players but they all made fun of me and I was a social pariah.
Listen to John Prine and Harry Chapin. They and Jim Croce have been my favorites since the early 1970s. No one else has matched their impact on my life.
This is the music that I grew up with... nothing compares to it today. My favorite artist. What a tragic loss. His son, AJ, does a good job on his dad's songs. AJ was just in concert in St. Louis.
Most don't know originally Maury was to be the lead for the two...Jim had the more vibrant personality so the switch worked well for performances. An unbelieveable pair of musicicans who made each other better on stage!
An honest admission; people who have lived the most sucsessful, fullest lives are people who listen to You Tube in their golden years in order to experience nostalgia in their lives once they become memories!
August 1973. Saw him perform live at Channel 11 , WTTW studio downtown Chicago for a tapped performance. Sat at little tables with about 60 others. Magical it was. Wonder if my date at the time remembers? I sure do. A unique moment prior to my Sophomore year in college. Thank you for a moment of nostalgia !
I had the honor of teaching Tommy West’s step children who gifted me a boat load of Jim’s vinyl recordings when they discovered I was a huge fan. Jim Croce is the man. Always been! Will be as he is discovered by the new comers.
Jim was great when he and Ingrid made records together in the 60s. But Maury brought out the very best in Jim. Together, they elevated music to a level that is not often seen. Two very talented men who left us too soon.
@@michaellarry86never heard of Claudia Sanchez … whst albums tracks do you recommend … Jim Croce and gordon lightfoot were massive while my wife and I brought our two daughters. Both amazing artists
I drove a semi for 31 years always had mr. Croce playing thank you for keeping me going with your beautiful music and beautiful soul speddball Tucker rest in peace Mr Jim Croce
I've got a very distinct memory of a brief moment in time. I was in the back seat of my dad's friend's car. They were both talking up front. We were on vacation in Wildwood, NJ in the summer of 1973. That moment, sitting at a red light, Bad Bad Leroy Brown was playing on the radio. It should have been a nondescript moment, easily forgotten. I was 4 years old. Instead it's a sliver of time burned into my memory of a happy moment of my late father...of being a child...of wonderful music and lots of people with long hair. He was a musician as i am. So music always formed the foundation for the best times i can recall. It's nice to read how this music has affected so many people here in such positive ways.
Maury was integral. Such an under recognized talent. I'm assuming you have, but if you haven't heard his album "Gingerbreadd" is available on the website his sister maintains, and it's also a playlist on UA-cam.
Non scherzo, solo un Angelo poteva esprimere così tanta bellezza e purezza, in un mondo sporco come e oggi, una boccata di aria pura, grazie per tutto quello che ci hai donato❤
This summer we had an amazing time with AJ who played his Fathers songs. It's something we won't forget anytime soon. We Love You All. Thanks for the memories.
We used to do half of the second set with just his songs. What an amazing talent. They just don't make em like him anymore. RIP great collection of his live performances.
I was getting ready for school the morning I heard on the radio of his death. Crushed to say the least. My album collection consists of Jim Croce, Moody Blues, Emmylou Harris and the unforgettable Linda Ronstadt. Their songs are etched on my mind.
Sadly his wife also heard of his death on the radio. How tragic the whole thing was. Apparently his son is a musician and very handsome. Nice to know that a part of Jim Croce lived on.
Linda Young here. Very beautiful. I listened to Jims songs in the 70s as a kid. I have a younger brother named Jim. We would sing the, " Don't mess around with Jim," especially. I had no idea Jim Croce died so young. He seems like a beautiful, family Man.
I'm only 12 and I found out about Jim through Stranger Things. he is now my fav singer and it hurts me to know that there wont be any other songs made by him~~ :(
He was not only a great singer but an honorable man. Watch a documentary on him. He is a great role model. Look up “ Behind the Music “ and put in his name let me know what you think. I raised my two boys on old time music. I don’t even allow them to play rap
I have no words to express how I loved and appreciated this man’s talent, ease and his ability to capture life, fun, admiration, difficulties and the contemplation of life. I will be forever grateful yet sad for the life he gave us but stunned by how short his time was with his own family and the rest of us.
I'm a musician too. I was born the year Jim died. I discovered him at a really young age. I still hear the echoes of his voice in my memories of an extremely traumatic childhood. I have heard tell of music becoming scars for some people if they provided a soundtrack to their pain. But Jim saved me. The songs were my salvation and provided me a degree of psychological shelter. In my 20s I started playing in various bands and genres. I was never happy. Part of that was undiagnosed mental illness at the time or just being creatively unfulfilled. At 40 I had a good long think on my career such as it was. Because of mental illness, PTSD and high functioning autism, I'm on disability. But I still play and release music. At 40 I realized I wanted to be like Jim. No big production. No frills. Just an acoustic guitar and a voice. Vulnerable. I wouldn't ever compare myself to Jim. I'm still a hack. Laughable even. But I'll tell you I would have never made it this far or survived without his beautiful immortal soul. I'm sorry to rant. You best believe that if you read this, I love you and everything is going to be ok. In kindness, DH
Doug, i´m 43 , me and my son autistis, i share this bad memories with you, music also save me from rhe external hell, created a inner safety world, it´ls been my shelter and medicine, to show this vulnerability in your songs as Jim used to do, is the most real path to Heal and cure , and move on as a new human being, god bless you, ps: post you things
I love hearing your story. I also have suffered (and caused suffering to those around me as a result). Mine was both a blessing and a curse (bipolar) as the manic aspect enabled me to have a lively and successful career in technology however the depressive aspect rendered its own life of grief and sorrow. Glad to hear you are still enjoying your musical life.
Such incredible talent, raw acoustic, unfiltered and un altered.. and wrote his own songs.. this man had it all. He was gone way too soon.. His sons doing an amazing job with his music, but none like the original.. Music aint made like this anymore. He had more talent in his pinky than many do in their entire body RIP Jim..
I had the good fortune to see Jim Croce six times in three days. He played at the Great Southeast Music Hall in Atlanta in 1973. He did two shows a night starting on Thursday and I was there for the first show and you could stay for the second show for free. I took a date on Thursday, a different date on Friday and another date on Saturday. He did all of his songs, but he had dozens of old-time folk songs he would play. This was about 5 weeks before his death. I was very sad, of course. More than 50 years have passed but I still play his songs on my guitar. I think I know most every song he wrote. Maury was there, and his death was as much a tragedy as Jim's.
Jim sung his songs about his life. He gave a 199% wanted so much to provide a better life for his family. He died way to soon. I'm in my 70s and have listen to his songs since I was a teen still love his music
Jim's music speaks to me,, it's about real life. What happens day to day.. what happens to all of us. I can relate to his music more than any other artists.
I'm originally from outside of Philly. He was a hometown star and everyone was proud that he belonged to us. I was 12 when he died and I can remember crying with my friends when we got to school next. I still listen to his music and know the words to every song
I will forever love Jim and Maury. I just turned 31 but i grew up with my dad blasting Jim's cassette in our 91 mustang as a child. What gets me is that, i am playing Jim and Maury's music to my son now. I realize that i'm probably around the same age as my dad when he introduced Jim to me. And my son (4yrs) is around the same age i was when my dad played Jim. Can definitely say Jim and Maury's timeless legacy is still being carried on. R.I.P to these great men. Thank you for making this 90s born kid love these pieces of art. Much mahalo from Hawaii 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Possibly the best Country Western duo of all time. Maury is just so damn talented with that picking strumming style every strum is a different note. Jims ability to paint a picture and make you feel an emotion is second to none. When i discovered his tragic ending I was devastated for months. Still will always play his music.
Everyone here listening to Jim's Incredible Music, Should spend a few hours or more with his Son and his Music Journey from Piano to Guitar even Performing Dad's Songs you will be Blessed to say the Least ...

Just to add to Jim's accolades, Jim Croce has the most beautiful, soulful, speaking voice.
Jim's music sounds as fresh as when I first heard it way back when "Operator" came out. Timeless songs.
Hard to believe the world only had a year to enjoy Jim when he finally made it big, and now it's been 50 years since he left.
Im 24 years old and I play Croce’s music almost everyday. I was born decades after he passed away yet his songs are still so relatable. Its so sad we couldn’t have gotten more music from him
Only the good die young ❤.
Jim left behind his music and his son A.J. Croce who now performs his dad's music; we just saw "Croce plays Croce" last night in OKC and very much like his dad, A.J. tells good stories....
god lord you're a puppy son
Harry Chapin is another storyteller that died too young, if you havent heard his music, have a listen, I think you will like it too
@@dianasoto7011 INDEED he was!
What an artist. What a writer. What a singer. Thanks for all the good songs and memories, Mr. Jim.
Rest easy Jim, and know that nearly 50 years later, your music is still changing peoples' lives.
god lord you're a puppy
Amen can see his passion in his face
He was a treasure we all couldn't keep xxcept for his music, that he was exception el rep Jim I feel like he was a close friend I never met
I remember when he was just becoming famous. I cried when he died. He was way too young. I loved his music.
hi
Saw Croce sings Croce concert March 2024 and brought back so many memories. Says a lot about his talent that he's still thought of today. I still remember when I heard Jim Croce passed. I was a young teenager but just devastated. Amazing talent - gone WAY too soon.
Just look at the smile on Jim's face as he and Maury are playing "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown"! You can see the twinkle in his eye. It's wonderful!! ❤❤❤
Thank God that someone filmed this before we lost Jim & Maury.....
Whatever happened to Maury? I don't think I ever heard anything else about him.
@@jillpeacock4540 He died in the plane crash with Jim.
@@Ghostbusternyc Thanks
Maury was my Grandmothers cousin
@@jillpeacock4540 Maury died along with Jim in the plane crash
Every body who start to study the Guitar, should study a Jim Croce song and the way he play the Guitar.
Same thing with John Denver.
Should also analyze the great finger picking style of Jim's sidekick, Maury Muehleisen...
Jims lead player Maury Mueleisen truly lifted him up and let his songs shine!
Ain't that the Truff!!!
thanks man i was looking at the comments just to see if someone would say who he was..
crap he died in the same crash
If you put a sombrero on Jim just wonder if he looks mexican. hahahahah
You can feel his compassion in his songs, more than just words
@@bdcowboy22 He's the intersection of extreme intelligence, wit and guitar ability. This is why he is hard to classify.
Yea, they definitely "broke the mold" after they made Jim. I was an impressionable 16 year old kid when he died; it hit me hard because I was the only one amoungst family and friends who "got him".
I vividly recall hearing the news of that plane crash... I love Jim Croce.
I was 13 the day he died, I cried so much I kept thinking this just can't be true. He just got started please be wrong. When I got older and learned about him and his family the loss of him was so much more. It still hurts but I am grateful we have his music and they have his memory.
hi
If only we had more Croce. I miss him
one of the best american folk singers. his music touch the souls. im 48 years old and i started to listen to him when i was 15. RIP Jim.
I was only six when he passed away! I heard his music on my sisters turntable and she just got the record! The album was Photographs & Memories! Boy what memories I have of those days listening to those songs back then and still to this day they don't get old!
Nothing better than roller derby queen
I'm 40 years and only now I know about this guy. What a talent!
Their harmonies were exquisite and this was live.
god lord you're a puppy son
Ah, brings back memories of seeing him in Amsterdam, the summer before he died in plane crash. He was fantastic and the world missed out a GREAT TALENT.
Jim Croce writes lyrics and incredible melodies that grasp you by your soul, making you feel a myriad of emotions, from happiness to despair, energetic to surrender, a gem of a true artist taken from us all way too soon. RIP, Jimmy. 👍❤️☝️
Jim looks like he lived a lifetime in his 30 years. I sincerely miss what he could have been if he would have lived till today.
A super star with finesse. You can't reproduce perfection.
I agree, just think what he could have been. I sure miss him and his music. I guess we're all time in a bottle.
Other kids had cars with cassette players or the rich kids had CD players but they all made fun of me and I was a social pariah.
god lord you're a puppy son
Listen to John Prine and Harry Chapin. They and Jim Croce have been my favorites since the early 1970s. No one else has matched their impact on my life.
This man was an absolute genius! Long love Jim Croce!!!!
This is the music that I grew up with... nothing compares to it today. My favorite artist. What a tragic loss. His son, AJ, does a good job on his dad's songs. AJ was just in concert in St. Louis.
Very happy to read that his is son is carrying on with his work. Thank you for this info.
Did you see him? We saw him in AZ in the spring, he's very talented
maury was so great
talk about an unsung great
most people dont even know his name
it really is a shame, he is probably one of the best lead acoustic guitarists of all time imo
And the Irony about Maury? He considered himself a pianist moreso than a guitarist. 40+ years on it's pretty clear he was genius.
Most don't know originally Maury was to be the lead for the two...Jim had the more vibrant personality so the switch worked well for performances. An unbelieveable pair of musicicans who made each other better on stage!
@@donhalterman4056 I think they grew up together as kids and became good friends. Whatever happened to Maury?
@@jillpeacock4540 Maury died on the same plane crash with Jim...tragic
What a voice. Incredible back when I was a child, and still today, a 58 year old man
An honest admission; people who have lived the most sucsessful, fullest lives are people who listen to You Tube in their golden years in order to experience nostalgia in their lives once they become memories!

Here I am4 years later wishing the same.Jim Croce is an absolute legend to my mind. Thanks again Brian. You know who you are.
I had the honor of teaching Tommy West’s step children who gifted me a boat load of Jim’s vinyl recordings when they discovered I was a huge fan. Jim Croce is the man. Always been! Will be as he is discovered by the new comers.
A TRULY mesmerizing artist. We love you, Jim. ❤
Jim was great when he and Ingrid made records together in the 60s. But Maury brought out the very best in Jim. Together, they elevated music to a level that is not often seen. Two very talented men who left us too soon.
Yeah Agreed 100%
Happy birthday jim!!! Crazy youd be 80 today. Your music will always live on my friend.
One of the best singer, performers of our generation..Beautiful song..wish he was still with us..
48yrs ago today we lost you!! You were the best Jim, you are missed terribly!! 🌹RIP🌹
How are you doing today! I hope it been a beautiful day today?
One of the few singers thats sounds just as good live as he does on his albums.
Claudio Sanchez is another, his acoustic performances are amazing.
John Denver was another as well

This video was uploaded on my 18th birthday, what in incredible present it was. I still visit it frequently. What a legend.
What a wonderful, precious memory.
An original and great musician. Gone too soon. No one else like him.
It just seems wrong that I can only give this one thumb-up.
Where are the good souls that sing love songs, 2024
Where are the good soul's in general?
Rest Easy Jim and Maury!
Thank you guys for the wonderful art you left for us to still enjoy 50 years on! 🎼
Thank You for remembering Maury. They were great together
Maury was integral. Such an under recognized talent. I'm assuming you have, but if you haven't heard his album "Gingerbreadd" is available on the website his sister maintains, and it's also a playlist on UA-cam.
Anyone else trying to hold back tears during Time in a Bottle? RIP Jim.
Only 2 guitar, one great voice and good lyrics songs for all that people enjoy this concert.
Thanks Mr C. For the great songs
Non scherzo, solo un Angelo poteva esprimere così tanta bellezza e purezza, in un mondo sporco come e oggi, una boccata di aria pura, grazie per tutto quello che ci hai donato❤
Damn he sounded just like the studio recordings. True talent.

Fantastico!!!! 😊
You have good taste in music, young man. I've been listening to him since I was in high school and now I'm 65.
Maury was his main man,I loved how he watched Jim and how they interact with each other, too talents we will never see again. Thanks for the memories!
A legend. One of the great singer, songwriter and musician.
In kindness,
DH
God bless you! ❤❤❤

He had more talent in his pinky than many do in their entire body
RIP Jim..
I discovered this man today, God his music is beautiful.
How is it going? What are you listening to today?
Lucky you to have the chance to hear it for the first time. I'd pay a lot to be in that position. Hope you're still listening.
More then 40 years later his songs still stand the time. I wish he knew.
He was the best
He captured TIME in a bottle
He knows
I think he would be honored, not prideful.
Jim sung his songs about his life. He gave a 199% wanted so much to provide a better life for his family. He died way to soon. I'm in my 70s and have listen to his songs since I was a teen still love his music
January 30 , 2023 and still listenin' around Jim Croce's great and soulfull folk tunes ! RIP Jim and Thanks for your music 🙏💙
Jim's music speaks to me,, it's about real life. What happens day to day.. what happens to all of us. I can relate to his music more than any other artists.
*The story telling in his songs is amazing.*
Jim and Maury died on my birthday when I was 7 yrs. old, every time I hear one of Jim's songs come on the radio I smile and turn it up!
GOOD MEMORIES. His music lifted me when I was down and gave me energy & focus on moving-day.
Everyone here listening to Jim's Incredible Music, Should spend a few hours or more with his Son and his Music Journey from Piano to Guitar even Performing Dad's Songs you will be Blessed to say the Least ...
