The Helldivers 2 Community is INSANE (Live Service Done Right)
The first game was well-loved by its fans but didn’t receive much attention beyond a core group of gamers. The second one, though, has skyrocketed in popularity and continues to grow bigger and bigger as more people realise the sheer fun involved in spreading managed democracy across the galaxy. Within an incredibly short space of time, the game has had a dedicated community burst into life, and today there are thousands of Helldivers on social media and Discord sharing clips, requesting aid, and generally having a phenomenal time together. In this video, we’re gonna look at everything that’s helped to create this beautiful community which is racing to fight the universe's greatest wars. There’s so much to talk about - whether it’s the deeply satisfying gameplay, the refreshing take on live service and microtransactions, the immersive way in which the galactic war works, everything all comes together to make for a community that is really something special. Of course, we’re gonna discuss the amazing development team behind the game, and the clever ways in which they use social media, as well as the CEO of Arrowhead, whose Twitter account alone has brought fellow Helldivers together in a united quest to protect Super Earth’s way of life. This is why the Helldivers community has become so good…already.

The CEO's response to not buy the game until they fixed it made me change from the $40 version to the $60 version and bought it the same day. I will encourage that kind of behavior in the gaming market as much as my meager wallet will allow me to.
His response led to me shell out additional money to buy the premium war bond. Support democracy with my wallet I say 😂
One of his other response to someone saying that he should be there fixing the problems with the servers was great too. Basically was like, I'm not an engineer. And standing over them asking is it fixed yet? Won't get it fixed any faster.
It was funny and provided the point of his pressuring and asking won't help get it fixed any faster. It would actually make it worse.

I bought the game yesterday. With how fun the game looked and how promising it is, I went for the $60 version.

Apparently they lost Super Earth a few times in Helldivers 1. I'm curious if the devs can balance things in a way that so many players could have it happen. Or maybe have a sneak attack on it by the enemies? Either way I look forward to more events!

I think the one thing Helldivers 2 has done that no other game has done for me in a long time, is that each day after work I wanna make the day go faster just to hurry back home just to play it. I genuinely feel like a kid again excited to get home from school to play a game I was super into.

Bro, this is the first game where I'm getting my ass handed to me, and I'm laughing and crying out for democracy 😂. My entire random team is dying with laughter, telling me to keep going 😂. I feel like I'm 10 years old again. I was just about to give up on gaming because of the direction mainstream games were going, but Helldivers not only saved me, I think it saved gaming.

As someone who has had the incredibly painful and stressful experience of soloing a full three mission operation on helldive difficulty on malevalon creek. I would also appreciate both more help and better netcode so my lobbies stop randomly disconnecting players right when I need them.

It is like the games I played when I was Young. You turn on your console, and in 2 minutes you are shooting and blasting aliens and you don't need to browse the web to find out the best build or whatever... You are Just having Fun with what you are given and that's amazing.
Pure 90's, 2000's stuff. The BEST stuff.
I can sit for 20-30minutes and play a Full match, instead of sitting watching a whole story that I dont give a shit unfold and then turn off the game because lunch time is up.

This, honestly this. The 1990's-early 2000's was the golden age of gaming, then somewhere around 2008-2010 the games started to fall in quality. However these past 3 years have had a resurgence of games that respected players time and gave that fun magic back, Elden Ring, Lethal Company, Palworld, and now Helldivers all proving to the world that passion and time put into a game yields amazing results.

Even the starting gear at level 1 can be used on harder modes and you still have a blast, the basic assault rifle is good for most units and heavy units have weak points, HULK units have big targets on their back that anything can hit and the default support weapon the Machine Gun blasts through some armored units nicely. You don't need to min max or look for the best shit, you can just play and have a blast.
the thing i love the most about the game is how the narrative involvement unites players, no matter what playstyle or disagreements players have with each other "we are not the enemy, there are the citizens of super earth and there are the invaders" which is an amazing way to negate a large portion of toxic opinion and craft an amazing community
Yesterday, a big part of the community came together to win the defence campaign on Mort literally in the last few minutes. Even Steam's maintenance couldn't stop DEMOCRACY
And then Creek was recovered
I remember playing the original Helldiver's with my friends and it was a blast, the sequel is an improvement in every way possible and I am so happy that it is getting the attention it deserves.
Not an improvement in EVERY way until they give us back mechs and vehicles.

The idea that something similar to this was pitched to 343/Microsoft was pitched for a halo game and denied will never not piss me off.
i am Shure they are pissed. they needed something like this. they might not have needed to resort to putting their games on PlayStation and Nintendo. however i do not think it was the x box division choice to do it. the heads of Microsoft want their money back fast

Helldivers 2 might be the best game to hit the market in the last few years. Very rarely do we get game devs that tell us not to buy their game till it's fixed than to buy the game and wait for the fix. With the CEO telling the one person not to buy the game until the server issues were fixed honestly probably made more people buy the game
And telling them to buy another game if you want PVP, and saying they won't mass hire devs just to fix servers and fire them later. Been nothing but wins with these devs.

No idea if a cowboy hat could be implemented (would be awesome though) but I'd Love Colour customization for armor to match different stuff even more. I dunno if it's just a rumor or not but apparently they want to implement the Colour customization at least? I'm not 100% sure though
It's actually been out for 3 weeks. Which makes it even more impressive that the CCU numbers are still stable.

I never thought that Helldivers 2 will blast off so hard. As a Helldiver1 player and following the development for years and not seeing anything in January '24 days before launch and now seeing the impact it made and will do makes me a proud Super-Earth citizen. For democracy!

And directed by Michael Bay and making good in just focused in the explosives besides cringe humor like in Transformers.
Honestly helldivers makes me feel like a trooper during the old Republic era of Star wars, cause if you've played SWTOR the MMO then you'd know there's a lot of robots and bugs you're fighting. And helldivers just purely encapsulates that tense and tactical feeling
The final armor set of the premium battle pass looks like Old Republic commando trooper armor.

There's just so much about this game that appeals to me. I've long said we need more co-op games and this one delivers on so many levels. Gives me that L4D + mercenaries + lost planet vibes and i loved all of those games.

As a PC player I rebound the strategym keys to the arrow keys on the keyboard. That allows for much greater speed and being able to run while dialing

6:18 The fact that everything is shared is a big reason why there's such a strong community, since working together is the only way to get more stuff.
The more you work together; the quicker you can complete the mission, the more objectives you'll finish, the more loot you'll find and much more, which ends with everyone getting more XP and loot at the end of the mission.
There no "This player had the most kills or this player completed the most objectives, so they'll get a better reward than everyone else." Which just incentivizes working together.
Sounds like DRG, which has been out for 6 years now.

I was at Mort the last few hours when it held. For a moment I thought we would lose it, but then the commubity rallied in a massive way I never expected to see, it was beautiful. I love democracy, and I love this community.

The CEO’s transparency online and the amount of fun I was having (despite server issues) convinced me to buy the deluxe “super citizen” upgrade. It’s a great game with an even greater team behind it.
one thing that I think you left out, assuming it wasn't too late to add to the script, was the fact that specific players who routinely team killed fellow Helldivers have been tagged by the Dev's as "Super Earth Traitors" and rewarded players for killing them if they ever queued in with them. Even going so far to create the RHEP (Rogue Helldiver Elimination Program).

I would love to see the devs push the Helldivers to the brink of destruction, facing enemies on all sides and defending Super Earth, only to push the enemies of Democracy back and purge them from the galaxy, maybe due to some weapons breakthrough. Then they could begin a next phase where humanity begins an expansion campaign for the rest of the universe. Actually seeing a true underdog story where humanity pushes back against all odds and comes out better for it would be great for defining lore and drawing in an even larger community. Also, defending Super Earth from a mix of machines and bugs would be pretty fun.
Hell Divers 1 was one of my favorite games of all time. When it was announced the PS5 got back on my wish list. The game is hilarious and perhaps it was a perfect storm for them to release.
Helldivers is a blast. Im excited for the future of the game.

1, not a complaint, wishing for new objectives in later seasons. To keep missions fresh.... with new weapons and strategies and cosmetics. They ain't got be new every month just give me a hand full of new toys to keep this fantastic game alive.

Helldivers 2 and Final Fantasy 14 (it had not been to Xbox till recently)
This game needs a map that caters 4-5 squads taking on a whole base of enemies.
I changed mine keybends to the arrow keys for the stratagems so you can move and call it in at the same time
I have been playing for about 10 days now, but I had the coolest experience yesterday. We got caught in a reinforcement loop against automatons, but the whole squad was in a really defensible elevated position. We had 2 auto cannons, 1 recoilless, and 1 railgun. Together We had this incredibly deadly and well thought out gun line that just wrecked everything that came at us, and they could only come at us for one direction essentially. Not even mentioning all the eagles and orbitals and sentry mortar fire. It was truly glorious.
In my experience playing the first game, it was common for the player in a mech to accidentally squish teammates who were taking cover behind them. I can't wait!
I don't know what it is about this game but just dolphin diving off a cliff is fucking hilarious
The role playing commentary is peak comedy. I've never played the 1st one though it looks interesting. The unity of all the playform (factions) if you will is a breath of fresh air of this crazy world in this time.

Most fun i've had with friends since Left 4 Dead 2. It's amazing.
I'm grinding for things, but I know exactly what I'm getting and how soon I will get it based on what difficulty I'm playing regularly. It feels like my time is actually being respected.
When you hear a mortar fire people should start LOOKING to make sure they aren't going to get hit. IDK why players feel the need to be in knife-fighting range of enemies instead of repositioning.

Knowing the internet, like with Starship Troopers there is going to be an army of people, who won't understand that it's a parody and will unironically embrace what Super Earth stands for.
I hope this game stays around for a long time (like Counter Strike for example) so i can aid the defense of super earth when i actually get a pc that can run it 😢
the studio behind this game, reminds me a lot of the studio behind State of Decay: Undeadlabs.
they actually care, they communicate with the players, get feedback, and eager to add more of what the players love, to the game.
I played the first game as a 14 year old on my psvita, and it was really fun, a sleeper hit that went under the radar, but now as a 22 year old, it's kinda crazy to see the success of this game.
Just started playing today. It's sooo much fun! I hoping for more customisation and a starship troopers DLC would be sick!
Just yesterday, my buddy and I landed in the same spot at the start of the mission, but somehow it launched me into space. Watched the rest of the mission from an orbital view while stuck in the sky on low health.

I don't think the game needs pvp but I'd like to see a faction of human enemies at some point akin to the cyborgs in Helldivers 1. Also, some kind of infantry reinforcement stratagems would make this game amazing imo.
Tbh, I'd just like to see rebels. With their main gimmick being strategems just like we use. Would make some hectic fun, not all strategems ofc but just some. Imagine turrets or mortars coming from the sky and having to deal with them, or certain enemies wearing heavy armor while chasing us using a flamethrower. Would be sick as hell gameplay

Helldivers 1 vet....pre-order day 1 zero hour player here. One of my favorite things to do aside from spilling oil on the Creek is to hop into lvl 1 games with total noobs so i can give them hugs, and show them the ropes. It feels so good to be helpful and cooperative. I know im not the only one either. This community is fucking awesome.
And the absolute best part about all of this this is literally just the beginning this is just the beginning we're only in the first month and a half or so can you imagine how incredible this game is going to be 2 years from now with dozens and dozens and new stratagems tanks and all kinds of other vehicles hundreds of guns and stuff they're probably going to add customization

The thing about Joel, an actual DM moving the string, blew my mind. Can wait for a masive invasion to Super Earth where helldivers in all sector are called to defend Super Earth.

If we lose both current defense orders we lose the major order and will negatively impact the future storyline and entire game.
People are not paying enough attention to the war
I agree but those defend missions are a nightmare, especially the civllian escort missions. The Automatons are absolutely relentless and don't stop coming. Unless you're communicating with your squad and you've got a strategy down, they're impossible to complete. I feel like Arrowhead wants us to lose the front against the bots 💀

The people farming the horde missions are ruining it because everytime they abandon an operation to find another horde mission it's a loss in the campaign.

@@regulator18E Yup, the devs said every group of missions (called a campaign in game) that is not completed counts as a fail and fills up the enemies bar. You have to do every mission in the campaign. The crazy thing is people can rush that horde mission faster then normal players do all the missions and hurt the planet!
I hope at one point we reach the automatons home planet and end fighting in cities.

yeah the active warfront i've seen it before in Heroes and Generals and For Honor. Don't get wrong I love this game. It takes a lot of inspiration and features from other games and does it right
The very fact that I don't need to spend any additional money to get the premium war bonds is so refreshing. I can get the new guns, armor, grenades, and whatever else completely free by just playing the game. I plan on getting the DLC just to unlock Strategem Hero, that's how much I love this game and the studio behind it. I gotta get better at my strategem arrow pressing
A guy joined our game shouting all sorts of democratic quotes and inspiring the squad, a true hero and a son of Super Earth
Game is amazing. I hope in the future we will have 8 player raids or something, maybe into core worlds of the enemy factions doing strike missions on critical enemy infrastructure with raid bosses etc. :D

you also have to realise. Marathon is mainly PVP. meaning sony has possibly 2 Brand new IP's with lore to build upon, and no cross balancing issues to deal with!
they took PVE with helldivers, and now could possibly take PVP in marathon
I’m into this game right now. I was also into anthem very much so, until I got my specific loadout I liked and max’s the gear.
Once that happened I lost all enjoyment out of the game, mainly because I was still doing the same sorts of missions since I started.
The solution is PvP. It could be generic level playing field, class select PvP, 4v4 I think.
It would love made anthem 100x better and I feel the same here
Fun fact. On the CEO's Twitter post about getting a Helldivers tattoo, the actor who played Rico, the main character in Starship Troopers, replied to that Twitter thread and thought it was kickass, and the CEO just about fanboy'd knowing he plays Helldivers.
