Am not sure if it was ever Broadcast on Halloween, But The Young Ones Episode 'Nasty' feels like a Halloween special. They rent a load of Video Nasties, Alexei Sayle plays a Vampire and The Dammed sing Video Nasty (amazing Tune). Also, No Ghost Watch? Pipes is not going to be pleased.
Yeah, it was basically just 'It's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown" when we were kids. Best Halloween episode I've ever seen was on "Quantum Leap" where they had to save young Steven King from the devil. :)
I had to look that up to if it was real and was amazed is. So is Scott bakula dark tower canon now and if so is the crimson king speaking to Stephen king a retcon?
Great vid, Halloween was always a bit crap as a kid, remember going trick or treating about 2 or 3 times and getting nothing, most near me didn't care about it. I remember going once with a mate for about an hour and a half and all we got was a bag of crisps between us
I always loved Halloween, but my Mum thought it was some American thing and would have nothing to do with it! It wasn't until I reached my mid teens and discovered Paganism and was able to show her that it was, and always has been, a very European thing and that the Americans had bastardised it. Since then she's been OK with it. Now, every year, I put out some of those American decorations and celebrate the most important holiday, Samhain. Mum's not really at the point where she's happy about me inviting the dead round for a feast though! But we remember those we've lost, which will be very difficult this year as my best friend and soulmate, Shakti, passed away in September. I swear I saw her sitting on the stairs yesterday, so I think she's still here, perhaps waiting until next week to cross over. Whatever your plans for next week, may you have a blessed and peaceful Samhain, and don't forget to talk to your lost loved ones!
It was all Bonfire night in the 70's for me. Seeing people asking for a penny for the guy. Some of which weren't really worth even that. My family would buy a lot of fireworks and we'd let them off in the back garden in the evening. Playing with sparklers and being more careful than that girl in the safety advert who went back to a still lit one. Don't recall talking about Halloween at all. Until trick or treat started to get mentioned late in the 70's I think my earliest tv memory of it must be Sue Lawley on whatever show it was that replaced Nationwide telling kids about the trick part 'please don't do it. It's not funny.' In a schoolteacher tone. That told them.... Every October 31st ever since I've sat at home doing my usual evening things hoping the doorbell won't ring... Wacko, by the way, is a 1982 American movie that is an airplane style comedy parody of slasher films. Reviews on imdb are mixed but the channel good bad flicks, which really knows it's stuff, once spoke highly of it. so it's on my list.
It wasn't really a Halloween special, but I do remember the autumn 1989 repeats of Grange Hill featured a ghost which many pupils believed might have been the spirit of the recently deceased pupil Danny Kendall. It was quite creepy when you are nine years old.
That was a fun vid. Cheers. November 5th was our big do. The whole village would prepare a massive bonfire, back then it OK to burn stuff. We'd put a potato wrapped in tin foil at the bottom of the fire and eat them as the fireworks were let off. Nowadays the tin foil is made into a hat.
The first scary thing I remember seeing on TV was an episode of Bergerac called 'Fires in the Fall'. Although that was a 1986 Christmas special. They seemed to like airing scary things at Christmas. Like airing 'The Woman in Black' on Christmas Eve 1989.
I guess that the title for the episode of Steptoe and Son is their spin on the 1964 film 'Seance on a wet afternoon'. Which is a bit of a dark, British film classic, about fake Mediums, a domineering Spouse and a kidnapping. Both are on YT, as of this post. Peace All
Mrs bucket in steptoe and son I think the scariest thing about Halloween is all the slightly Oversized people in awful costumes Really sends shivers down my back 😂😂
Did you guys get any Rankin-Bass specials over in the UK? I ask because they made a Halloween special called "Mad Monster Party", which had a sequel (though the first was from 1967)
Nope. Well, not in Yorkshire Television Region at least. Maybe London Weekend Television (LWT), or another region gave them a spin? I was unaware of Rankin Bass until they popped up in my UA-cam feed a decade ago. As you have probably gathered, Hallowe'en isn't really a thing in the UK. For starters, it runs alongside Mischievous Night (A sort of children's version of The Purge) and is too close to Bonfire Night for anyone to have the time to bother. The American imports mentioned here were rarely scheduled to coincide with the occasion they portrayed, we saw Americans opening their Christmas presents in July. We thought Americans were nutters! Before you ask; No, we do not celebrate the 4th of July either. Only North America does that. I only mention it, because we get asked that question a lot. Have a wonderful time. All the best from England. PS, Black Cats are a sign of Good Luck, this side of the pond. My very best wishes to you and yours.
No wonder you're jaded, when you were kid the Witch Finder General was still a job anyone could apply for 🙂OMG how the papers cried out when a child did something so terrible like tick or treat prank... blackmail indeed.
The first Halloween special I remember what's the Paul Daniel's magic show when you got shot in the Iron Maiden I thought it was real and I cried I also remember as the first year that we bought in carved a pumpkin. Another Halloween special I remember is the thing from the BBC ghost watch everybody thought it was real but they put a disclaimer at the beginning saying everything you're about to watch is a dramatisation he was harmed in the making of this program I was 8 or 9 years old at the time and remember that disclaimer clearly then the program itself I see no reason why it hasn't been released on DVDs or put on UA-cam even to me as a 9-year-old it was very clear that it was not a real situation now if I want to watch Halloween specials I use UA-cam that way we can watch Halloween specials from around the world speaking as a Pagan and therefore my new year actually occurs on the 31st of October I do not understand why my beliefs I still considered frightening after all this time there is one interesting fact I found out about this time of year we associate spiders with Halloween because to most people they are frightening on some level but they actually mate around this time of year and that's why we see more spiders around this time of year
Every year the same videos apear on Halloween... really can't people click on the search spot on UA-cam for halloween videos or else ? Getting tired to see everytime the same horror movies over and over in many youtube videos can't we move on ? Imho Halloween same goes to Valentine's Day gets bored and is nonsense . The same boring candies the silly gadgets sold no one cares about since they land in the bin the day after .... so not ecological As the candies or other food with the fancy decoration for Halloween and such they raise their prices for none reason ...
I thought the Tree House of Horrors with the Simpsons was a 100% brilliant. Maybe you were watching the wrong channel. Your video did go on a bit to long.
Im 43 and unfortunately won't be having family party for niece as she's now 12 but at least I can look forward to having one withy own kids when I eventually have them

It wasn't trick or treating in the 70's, it was guising up here in Scotland
Have a grand old Samhain everyone.
Paul Lynde Halloween Special from 1976 is a fun one, with a KISS performance midway through. I watched it on Prime years ago.
The scariest thing here was realising Paul Daniels was only 2.5 years older than i am now .... Holy Fack

@thefootofourstairs. My Halloween 80s memories are a carved out turnip instead of a pumpkin and a black bin liner as a costume

Sounds good
I completely dismiss what you said about the Simpsons/Halloween/Treehouse episodes, but I loved this video anyway. Cheers! 😊🎃🍻
I remember has a child jackanory on the BBC used to read a scary story for Halloween.
Halloween did involve parties when i was a kid but no trick or treat, just bobbing for apples and ghost stories. (I'm 57!
I'm a couple of years older than you and I remember that Bonfire Night was a bigger deal than halloween.
That was a fun vid. Cheers.

When you say UK you mean England. Halloween was always a big deal in Scotland. It wasn't much like it is now though.
Ah brings back memories a binbag cape and glow in the dark fangs
Tbh I would rather they put on some horror films.
Was that Judd Hirsch as Dracula?
Yes
Treehouse of horror is NOT rubbish so I strongly but respectfully disagree 😡
I love Steptoe And Son, but this episode has GOT to be the worst performance by Patricia Routlege I have EVER seen !
