    In this video I Tested 3 antennas for handheld Cb's. The Radio used in this test was a Midland 75-810 transmitting to a Cobra GTL 2000 Base Station. The 3 antennas are 1. Rubber Duck Ant 2. Cobra Long Range Antenna and 3. Hyshikra 27 MHZ Antenna. Range test were conducted at 1,2, 4 and 5 miles with interesting results.

    For highway travel,even the rubber ducky antenna is fine for listening to truckers to find out about traffic issues. A mag mounted antenna works great too. 73,WR4i

      I used the duck a lot with a Midland 75-785 when I was in high school so much and did fine in suburban California out to like a mile. With the Cobra HA-TA I got as an upgrade it was able to do 2 miles easy over all the houses.

      Why not try a longwire like the ham radio guy's use, cut the wire to match the frequency you're using then if you can put an antenna tuner into it with an swr meter to tune it perfectly......moonraker mirical whip is good antenna tuner i use one with the correct adapters to fit some of my radios.

    NOTE: While range testing & antenna design/efficiency is interesting and very important, the quality, level and clarity of modulation is extremely important. Some CB walkie talkies have horrible/substandard microphones and they should be weeded out as well.

    I bought one of those Hyshikra antennas for my cheap uniden handheld and was very surprised at the difference in both transmit and receive. It’s like night and day compared to the rubber ducky it comes with. I can have the rubber ducky on and not hear anyone then put the hyshikra on and start picking up people. For the price you can’t beat it.

    Yes those longer antennas work great but I can't be walking around with a 4 foot antenna sticking out of my backpack or off my belt. Is there anything in between these like a longer rubber duck? It would not be as good as the 4 footers but at least it would be usable to use while on the trail. Thanks for taking the time to make the great video!

    It's always good get out there and
    field test antennas cb or Ham portable.
    The rubber duckie antennas are good for convince within a mile or less..
    If you attach a thin piece wire 9ft wire onto ground side of BNC connector ( outter side) let it drape down to ground. this will give you a counter poise and will bring up TX/RX signal on all antennas transmissions. Hey keep up good work you can also set up mini 40 Mobil on a 7 amp hour 12v gel cell battery at camp sight onto a vertical 102 fiber galss whip with homemade 3/8 bracket add some ground planes and take walk with talkie!

    • @kishascape
      @kishascape 10 місяців тому

      @@ChrisOakesCOit's more than likely just his base station antenna height. As when talking handheld to handheld when I used to use one alot 10 years ago it bumped my range from 1-2 miles to 4.
      I like the 27 inch flex whip Bell's cb offers as an add-on option for the hh50wxst listing (though you can actually buy it separately). More durable so I don't have to worry with it as much.

    Back in the day you'd never use channel 14 for something like that. Channel 14 was the calling channel and there was just too much traffic. I can't imagine what the big cities were like but I was out in the countryside and channel 14 was full of people calling all day and all night.
    PS would I be right in thinking handheld CBs have drastically improved? We had a 40 channel handheld with rubberduck and we had a base station with Thunderpole aerial strapped to our chimney with bailer twine. The rubber duckie radio only had a one-mile range, as you say. But the base station (which was actually a car radio with adaptor) easily reached 5 miles all around and as far as 12-15 miles on occasion.
