  • I have run out of words to describe how utterly amazed I am that this little hand held President Randy CB radio can communicate with a guy sitting under his carport in his side by side, talking on a president Bill mobile radio with a 2 foot antenna, 2 1/2 miles away. Blown away! One of the best comms purchases I have ever made. Range test,field review. Here is where I got this hand held and the mobile radio.

    I just ordered one,amazing,in 1969 I bought a Lafayette Dyna Com 5 and talked from Smithsburg Md to Bunker Hill WV approx 35 miles,but that was with the long telescoping antenna, that walkie talkie was the size of a shoebox and heavy, I actually still have it but it needs electrolytic capacitors replaced, cant wait to get this little President walkie talkie.

    This is better than any ad or commercial that President radios could have put together.
    This video alone has got me interested in buying one of these. I have a 40 channel mobile CB in my Ford pickup. But I think I need to get a handheld and this is going to be the one !
    Thanks for the info and such a great video👍

    When I first started in CB (1974) I had found a man selling a yaesu 101E. I had some money from mowing yards and was 14 at the time. He said it had the CB band in slot 10-a. Also came with a Turner super sidekick desk mic. I paid $500 for the radio and bought a radio shack 5/8 vertical. It was giant as antennas went back then. I had no ideal what I was doing but he did show me how to tune the rig. Found a print out of the CB freq channels. Was always worried about Uncle Charlie and the dreaded FCC van out side my house. LOL. Ran AM for a long time before trying SSB. At first I kept my dead key power at the lowest which was 10 watts. But it would modulate 25 watts no matter what I did. People would always ask what I was on. I told then it was a Radio Shack navaho with a desk mic. Never got busted. And ended up going to the dark side as a ham and have been since 1976. Still enjoy my CB time. 73's.

      @@Mnrl8218 No, CB = Citizens Band, so it's for everyone's use without any form of license. Ham Radio on the other hand requires a license where you have to go through a course to attain the license, but you CAN legally buy Ham radios without a license but only for listening in, you need the license to talk to anyone. Hope that helps 😃

    The folks on the International Space Station have asked that you wait until they're on the other side of the planet before you switch on your radio again. Your radio is just too powerful and you're bleeding over onto all channels. Without communication with the ground, they're worried they might crash. 👍

      Thank you for the reply. I am right now looking for CB’s in the area. I live in a very small town on the coast of Oregon. They don’t have anything it is referred to as a Third World country. I almost bought online but I have returned things relying on what comments people write and I don’t wanna do that. I would rather visually see how the thing works. Just like your video which is very much appreciated. due to what is happening with Russia and such. They probably will cripple our power infrastructure which will put us in complete darkness. It was a 60 minute special on Russia not using nuclear power going after our infrastructure. (Power grids)I’m just trying to widen my options and this looks like a very good option to have. And if nothing happens I have a killer CB for the future. Thank you for your review again.

    I'm in the process of getting a number of different radio systems to be better prepared to communicate with others in a shtf,grid down, no cell service situation, and these look like a good fit for another piece of the puzzle.
    I've been out of the game a little bit as far as CB communications is concerned, but I'm slowly getting back to a level I had only dreamed of back when I was hot and going strong.
    I'm also going to add a bunch of FRS/GMRS, and amature (HAM) radio equipment into the mix to have as good a system of communications for a SHTF scenarion as I can, for whatever form manifests itself in the coming times we're living in.

Plus, looking for the whip antenna & mounting one on my old pickup. All three are HUGE in comparison to your small CB. Non electronic, that's for sure. Now I'm doing some serious re-thinking! Thanks for sharing. Hope you and Charly have a Saturday. Godspeed when you roam.

    That bottom piece attached at the beginning of the video was just part of the charger, correct? I didn't care for that design when I first saw it, but during the test part of the video, I saw that it wasn't attached. Now I am intrigued. With that type of power for a hand-held, I wouldn't hesitate to toss that in the Jeep (it would also allow me to leave the Uniden 980 on SSB all the time). I would be interested to know the battery charge it maintains when not in use. At that price point, this thing is almost a no-brainer.

    • @bctruck
      @bctruck  3 роки тому +3

      Yes. This is what happens when I don’t give the instructions a quick glance. That is only to charge. Another nice aspect of this handheld is that it has a replaceable battery pack. I would imagine on high power, (4 watts) the battery would drain much faster. The thing I was most impressed by was that even 1 watt got me 2 1/2 miles through the woods to my friend pat. He wasn’t on a base, he was sitting on his side by side under his carport. His antenna is a 2 footer.

  • @rickjones6414
    @rickjones6414 3 роки тому +2

    It's a great radio because of its special features like has Channel Scan, no other manufacturer has this in a handheld. SSB would be nice and the battery doesn't last long enough between charges, but this is New and they'll work it out in future versions. I read that a replacement battery will be available soon so we'll see if it's easy to replace in the field.

    Ahh, the infamous its here its here line. Another great tool or gadget porn episode :p...
    CB radio and radios in general has definitely come a long ways when it comes to the electronic components inside them. We pretty much we carry a pocket computer with a full duplex radio built in them everyday and paid not too much attention to them at all. Quite impressed by the performance of the handheld just on a rubber duckie antenna let alone when it is connected to a "real" antenna doing just as good as its mobile cousin where both have the same features packed in it. Handhelds of the past, you had to give up quite features just to have the portability. Lithium ion battery packs, surface mounted components, and radio on a chip is the handful of game changers making it practical in the portable electronics world.
    Kinda curious how well the Automatic Squelch Control works when the band is noisy and if a legitimate weak signal will break the squelch to let the audio through without the annoying clipping. Two miles on a mobile with a 2 foot antenna and talking back to a handheld on a rubber duckie on low power mode is definitely quite a feat and a good performer on both receivers especially when it is not quite clear line of sight.
    I think you'll do fine from base to handheld around your property, not quite sure indoors with the handheld i.e. knife shop or at Bev's place, not expecting two miles away from inside a building of course. That might be stretching a bit.

      I hadn’t messed with cb radio in many years. These new radios are leaps and bound more advanced than the days of Chrystals and huge rectifiers and transistors. I chose cb for my comms simply because it’s what I know. Ham, gmrs frs, all may have been better choices but I know how to get around the shortcomings or limitations of cb because as a trucker, I used cb for 35 years. Need more distance? Raise your antenna. Still need more? Put some power on your transmit. Swr to high? Add some coax. Sometimes it’s best to stick with what you know.

      @@bctruck I agree, work with what you know. CB won’t be going away anytime soon and from base to base it’ll get your word out to your neighbors across town is good enough in most cases. I myself am a Ham and have equipment that can tune into the CB and FRS frequencies, but having a dedicated gear for the task to make it more K.I.S.S.
      I still have my Midland 40 channel hooked up to a 4 foot no ground plane Firestick antenna bolted to an 8 foot fence post and still can talk base to base 5 or so miles in the suburbs. I’m gonna the President Randy to my shopping list.
