Apparently Guinness doesn't have foam? They rated a foamy beer as #1... Not to mention they didn't say they were going by preference, but by sales. That's why they have Heineken higher ranked than Stella.
They have that from the British. Traditionally, the British always want their glass to be filled to the limit with beer, because otherwise they feel they've been cheated out of drink. They care a lot about quantity.
marco mcdowell There are a few Local American products that I have tried, and sent them directly into the toilet without filtering them through my kidneys. One was Utica Club and another Fort [something] or Iron [something]. As for Bud or Coors "light," if you want water, drink water it is free!
As weird as it sounds, Guinness really isn't the same outside of Ireland. I've drank it in pubs in Dublin and it's much better than out of a bottle or can.
Joe Mamma my friend brought me a can straight out the plant 2 days after he went in Ireland . I used to hate Guiness until I tasted that very can . It's my favourite beer now and I'm one hell of a picky drinker
I made a stop at a an airport in Ireland and I had to get a Guinness. While I'm sure it will still taste better in Dublin it is so delicious and next to my Texas beer Shiner it is my favorite of all beers.
For those of you who are too lazy to watch: 10. Dos Equis 9. Samuel Adams 8. Sapporo 7. Beck's 6. Carlsberg 5. Stella Artois 4. Pilsner Urquell 3. Newcastle Brown Ale 2. Heineken Lager Beer 1.Guinness HM goes to Tsingtao Kronenbourg Paulaner Super Bock Chang
I'm surprised miller lite wasn't in it. I work in a liquor and Miller Lite out sells all these beers on this list all year. But then again they added tasted best to the limiting factors haha
HaloSpartan44 Miller Lite is my go-to beer because I can find it pretty much anywhere and it pairs well with most food. That, and I'm not quite the beer snob I used to be...
Pretty much. The only non-lagers I can think of that were on the list are Newcastle Brown (which IMHO is kind of meh) and Guinness, which is decent, but kind of overrated
Efrain Ramos oh really so not because people like it? I don't care how much I pay for my favorite beer, and I go out of my way to find it if it's not readily available. idk tho, that might just be me
I went to Greece last summer and I tasted a beer they have called Mythos. That beer together with the spanish Alhambra Especial are some of the best non international beers I have ever tried
Me too. Beck's is highly adjusted to the international market, which makes it one of the worst German beers ever. 1873 also isn't that old for Germany standards. Weihenstephan makes beer since 1040!
Becks brewed by BUD in St Louis, Becks brand was destroyed by INBEV (PUDWEISER) . All beers on the list with the exception of Guineas I would not even wash my feet with. I will get a roll of TP and watch this shit again. (crapms)....... Must of been done by a non beer drinker. ;-(
@@jru8802 Uhmm... Beck's originates from Bremen, is still brewed there to this day and is doing really well on the international market. But I agree, their beer definately isn't the "best German beer". More like one of the worst.
Frankly, there's a few things that are wrong with this list. 1) this list is hopelessly America-centred, 2) most of these beers are popular because they're bland and therefore accessible, not because because they're especially tasteful, and 3) allowing only one beer per country horribly skews the results because there's less than 10 countries in the world that make world-class beers.
While I don't agree that there are less than 10 countries that make world class beer, it is skewed because they limit it to one beer per country. Otherwise, only Belgium, Germany and the Czech Republic would be represented.
Of course there was only one American beer, one beer per country, remember? :p Wht I mean is it focuses a lot on what beers are popular in America. Where Watchmojo are from really isn't relevant if it's a global competition.
magpieram I'd say that a good amount of European countries could've been in on it though. Scotland makes good beer, as does England and Ireland and some other places. Even if they did allow others they could easily have thrown in some other ones.
I would tend to agree. Americans clearly like lighter beers...hence the big deal about lite beer. There are a couple of non-American typical beers on the list but probably just because they have become popular even here in the US. Pilsner-Urquel is not like typical American beers. Nor is Guiness. But there are so many exceptional beers in Europe that it is a shame to stick with the popular large brewers. I used to live in Boston and there were a couple of importers back in the 80's and 90's that would bring in many beers from Europe. I got a chance to try a lot of them. I tend to like the dark beers...Porters and brown ales. But the old standards are great also. If I were to pick one every day great beer it would be Pilsner Urquell. It is just plain great beer.
It makes me puzzled watching this video because at the very beginning the narrator mentions that they are excluding craft beers. Because of this why is Samuel Adams beer in the top 10 even though they explain it as a craft beer...And WTF? Canada can not make this list or even an honourable mention? Canada has many fine beer selections...Excluding old man Labatts 50 and water-down Blue Light, beers such as Keiths, Rickards, Moosehead, Sleeman's, and Hops City all come to mind...The world is full of great beer and Canada should be part of any top 10 beer list...To me this list is a list not of the world's top 10 beers but of the world's 10 beer companies that spend the most on fancy advertising and marketing...
jay parry Dude, it's supposed to be a top 10 "Global beers", and I don't know any of the beers you just mentioned. So much for the "global". And if you wanna talk about Canada, I'm from Belgium, my brother in law is Canadian, lives in Belgium, and he's embarassed about bringing us canadian beers, even though we asked him, because it's "really just aromatised water" (his words). So please, don't act all offended about canadian beer, when I can list you about 50 belgian or german beers that beat any of your canadian shit.
Shinshokuful Your brother-in-law should take a better look at his own country, then. There are some very interesting breweries in Québec and elsewhere, but I do understand, the big market brands are even more bland than in Belgium. Still, if many Belgians consider Leffe a special beer, I can't say I blame him, it's true over here, too.
jay parry While I agree with you that Sam Adam's shouldn't be on the list, you do realise you named off all the ones that have been bought either by Anheuser-Busch or Molson/Coors, Rickards, Keith's? I think the recipe gets changed everytime they get bought out to make it more like molson or coors/anheuser beer. Sleeman's is owned by Saporro even, Moosehead is supposedly independent but is pretty light. Hop city though was a solid choice, how about FGD, Half Pints. BC i'd say is the capital of craft beers in canada. So many to choose from, Tree Brewing, Stanley Park, Dead Frog, Fernie. not to mention Phillips and whistler.
+EverlastGX Yup, us Americans know nothing what with our exploding craft beer culture, tons of new breweries every year, and names such as Stone, New Abbey, Sierra Nevada, Dogfish Head, Rustic Ales, etc. No knowledge or experience with good beers. Nope nope nope.
+Carpicous Tenacity opening breweries doesnt make u have good beer. The holy trinity of Netherlands, Germany and Belgium go way back, we know our beers and inspired many.
Diekje Leffe is on a different league, gorgeous beer ,a true drinking experience starting with the bottle ,but tad pricier than the rest which are more mass appealing.
+F ® 3 5 H E LUFT apparently every good brewery in germany goes under "micro-brewery" or "draft"... but well, they're Americans and don't know anything about beer, except their watered-down, flavorless piss.
Then there is also Budweiser "Budvar" (the original), which I came to prefer over the last couple of decades. A fine lesser known beer would be "Mönchshof Hell", which is my favourite these days, while Pilsner Urquell is only #3 for me.
I'm currently laughing at this list while enjoying with some good old Pilsner Urquell, the best pilsner out there. As for lager beers, I prefer Ozujsko, nice and fruity.
Sadly, I don't get it either. Weihenstephaner has blown me away with their many different styles of beer and I have not had one I didn't like. Prost vom Der USA!
I didn't actually know Weihenstephaner, but I'll keep that one in mind ;) Of the widely selled Beers of Germany I'd prefer a Krombacher, Veltins, Jever or Bitburger. And if you have ever the chance and come to the Region around Münster, NRW in Germany, try a Pinkus Spezial, and you'll taste the pure art of German Beer ;) And, just if you want to know: It's Prost aus den USA ;) Cheers from Germany!
The Pious Priest I just recently discovered Weihenstephaner here in the U.S. and it has quickly become one of my favorite beers. The only bummer is I rarely find it around my area.
I wish more people would discover the wonderful world of IPAs, ales, weissbeers etc. When you do, you will basically never say that any of the beers on this list tastes good.
IPAs are good for one or two but I find they don't taste as good after that, but thats my preference. Little Creatures pale ale(from Fremantle, WA, Australia) is a ripper and I strongly suggest you sample one. What are your personal favourites?
Well, you can't really say that about this list. For example: I love a great steak. Disney's Le Cellier has one of the best ever. But I also love a good hamburger. So can say I appreciate many different beers. I love IPA's and Weissbeers. I also love Pilsner Urquell. I love Guinness. But I also love Flensburger Dunkel, Efes, Warsteiner, Zywiec, etc. I could go on and on. A beer can be good even if it is made by a macro brewer. Unless it's Budweiser, Coors, Miller, or anything lite or light or ultra. THOSE ARE TRULY SHIT.
Chris Hectors Indeed, they are not beers to drink in fast succession or in vast volumes, but to be enjoyed as a taste experience. I drink lagers when I just wanna go out and party as everyone else :) Personal favourites...hard to say but I would probably mention Omnipolo's beers, Brewdog, Wisby, Brooklyn, Lagunitas to name a few. I will look up the beer you mentioned as well!
shaggyusm26 Well, I was fairly bad at formulating my point since you made it far more elegant haha. I just find it sad that many people ONLY drink Bud, Coors, Heiniken etc when there are so many truly great beers to be tasted.
MetaphorInVain You hit the nail on the head. So many people swear by Bud Light, Coors Light, and Miller Light. Heck, I used to be one of those people when I was 19 or 20. Then I walked past one of those make-a-six-packs at a gourmet grocer. LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE! Now I've had well over 100 different beers. I have to go out of state now to get beer that I've never had.
For good beer you only have to look in Germany, Czech Republic and Belgium (no particular order). Worst beer I ever drank was Beogradsko Pivo (at the railway station of Belgrade).
England. It has the most unsung beer culture in the world. More breweries per head than any other country. Much more complex and flavourful than Czech lager.
Becks is OK, but it's far from the best German beer. It's not even in the top 10. They are basing these beers on popularity, and marketing ,and not on taste.
dejavumaster98 mane come on Beck's is great beer i definitely got it over Heineken, Bavaria, Carlsberg.... but my of all time favorite beer is Lowenbrau !!! Grolsch is great too
@WatchMojo Please redo this beer list. It’s been almost 10 years and the whole beer landscape has changed drastically. I would love to see an updated video. Thank you WatchMojo
Gulden Draak, Kasteelbier, Chouffe, Hertog Jan, Bavaria, Bitter and Twisted. I can go on and on, so many excellent beers. I do understand that these wouldn't fit the list, but I just wanted to mention some kick-ass beers. Love me some Guinness as well!
The list is about global reach and sales worldwide though, whilst those beers might be awesome, I've heard of maybe 3 of them living here in Australia.
It's ridiculous anyway to put a 'beer' list instead of differentiating a bit more, comparing Ale and Stout is silly. Maybe a Trapist top would be nice to see :)
I Drank Sapporo at the airport in Tokyo and on my flight to Bangkok and it tasted really good! Especially the one at the airport. But when I came back to America and bought some here in the states it didn't taste the same. Tasted more bitter than the one in Japan.
It’s still a macro beer that’s a massive operation. If this list was accurate it should definitely be up their. Like ffs Stella Artois for Belgium is ridiculous.
Hence the use of the qualifier "Global" in their title... I do hope they make a separate but similar list for craft beer or breweries.. Good list though, glad to see Pauliner make it, their beers are very good.
Ok lets be honest. you have one thing completely wrong... Germany shouldnt be number 7 on this list... and the reason why the really good beer isnt globaly known... is because we like it so much that we dont export it... and come on a sentence like 'this beer was first brewed 18something' only impresses americans who only have 300 years of history... there are amazing beers like Augustiner, btw first made in 1328, which have followed the Reinheitsgebot for hundreds of years. Thus concluding that by putting guiness as number 1 you have insulted not only german tradition but every beer drinker. You would have avoided this if you had said 'most famous beers' and not top 10 best beers. because you can not judge its quality by how often it was bought.
Give me your picks based on a) taste b) global reach c) goodwill/brand equity d) sales domestic, and globally e) market share locally, and globally Go. Signed Mr X
I've tasted my fair share of brews, and Irish Stout has to be THE least beer-tasting beer I've ever tasted. To call Guinness your favorite beer, is on par with saying you're not a big fan of beer. Honerable mention to Amstel and Grolsch. Speciale Palm is a belgian beer bound for greater things.
I was annoyed that Grolsch wasnt up there.. considering how unusual the bottle is too.. But to be fair, if you was to pick a beer (or in this case a stout) that is world renowned for being good, then Guinness Tops more lists than Amstel would
It's a lonely world when you graduated from the big lies of the big breweries. Now I have a hard time when I hang out with friends that idolize the cheap and watery beers that sell in the convenience stores.
Yeah, it quiet expensive, but I don't change it, and is the previous step, to start making your own beer. It's a very interesting, extremely exciting and mildly disappointing experience, when you drink your own, first beer.
pesvboude I agree and disagree. I agree that American macro beer is shit, but I've had CRAFT beer from America and Canada that can give most European beers (especially European Lagers) a run for it's money.
I've never seen a list that bad. This list schould be doninated by bavarian beer, but they always pick the countries best with Beck's for Germany, really?? That happens when people, that just drink dogpiss instead of beer, make lists like this.
Tried every beer in my 78 years, been drinking Marten's Pilsner now for 15 years, no headaches , keeps a head and foam sticks to the glass. Sign of a good beer ! Made in Belgium !

jussmaster While I don't agree with many things said about Germany (positive or negative), this is true:) Czech and German beer (and some Polish ones as well) are usually the best ones, at least in the opinion of many. There is a reason why every year over 6 million people visit the Oktoberfest^^ "Reinheitsgebot" ftw. P.s.: Still one of my favourite beers is Guiness, allthough many of my fellow country men would disagree here, I guess. Well I spent an entire year there as well, so maybe this shouldn't come as a surprise.

As weird as it sounds, Guinness really isn't the same outside of Ireland. I've drank it in pubs in Dublin and it's much better than out of a bottle or can.
Joe Mamma Patton Oswalt has confirmed this.
Joe Mamma my friend brought me a can straight out the plant 2 days after he went in Ireland . I used to hate Guiness until I tasted that very can . It's my favourite beer now and I'm one hell of a picky drinker
I need to go Ireland i try this fabled superior guinness, could such a thing truly exist....
Hezar5166 Im telling you its not the same
I made a stop at a an airport in Ireland and I had to get a Guinness. While I'm sure it will still taste better in Dublin it is so delicious and next to my Texas beer Shiner it is my favorite of all beers.

Never heard a german say beck’s is the best beer in germany
B&H Its because in America they have no idea about beer.
Rodrigo Santos Valeriano most of these beers are good but beck isn’t
for a reason haha
Me too. Beck's is highly adjusted to the international market, which makes it one of the worst German beers ever. 1873 also isn't that old for Germany standards. Weihenstephan makes beer since 1040!
Beck's is good but its nowhere near the best. I would take Paulaner, Benediktiner and my personal favourite Franziskaner over Beck's any day.
Millions of Germans cried out in pain when Beck's appeared ...
America centered eh? There was only one American beer, and watchmojo is Canadian.
Of course there was only one American beer, one beer per country, remember? :p Wht I mean is it focuses a lot on what beers are popular in America. Where Watchmojo are from really isn't relevant if it's a global competition.
magpieram
I'd say that a good amount of European countries could've been in on it though.
I like Molson Canadian and Molson Golden.
1qwasz12 I like Canadian too .
jay parry Dude, it's supposed to be a top 10 "Global beers", and I don't know any of the beers you just mentioned.
As a belgian man this list breaks my heart
Agreed. Your country has the best beer. Duvel especially.

Love me some Guinness as well!
You hit the nail on the head,As good as German beers are the Belgian brewers have made beer into an art form.
Pirate Man
stout is an ale...
I Drank Sapporo at the airport in Tokyo and on my flight to Bangkok and it tasted really good! Especially the one at the airport. But when I came back to America and bought some here in the states it didn't taste the same. Tasted more bitter than the one in Japan.
Beer is mostly water. It depends on the water source.
Pilsner Urquell would be the first if the company sold well.
It’s still a macro beer that’s a massive operation. If this list was accurate it should definitely be up their. Like ffs Stella Artois for Belgium is ridiculous.
More like top 10 mass-produced beers
which is why it a popularity contest dumby IT SAID GLOBAL BEER NOT NATION BEST BEER
Pilsner Urquell is hardly a mass-produced beer like Becks.
You would have avoided this if you had said 'most famous beers' and not top 10 best beers. because you can not judge its quality by how often it was bought.
so right
Man Ever you tasted Kingfisher???
Is this a F***ing JOKE??? Apart from Pilsner Urquell, NONE of these beers would even make it into the top 100 beers, far les the top 10.

Americans drink alcohol with water and call it beer. Where is pilsner urquell by FAR the best beer in the world.
But to be fair, if you was to pick a beer (or in this case a stout) that is world renowned for being good, then Guinness Tops more lists than Amstel would
Singha beer from Thailand is also Nice
I graduated from mass produced beer a long time ago. Craft beer only for me.
this is more like the top ten flavoured waters
It's a lonely world when you graduated from the big lies of the big breweries. Now I have a hard time when I hang out with friends that idolize the cheap and watery beers that sell in the convenience stores.

radamanthium It's a dangerous thing finding friends who want to start drinking your good beer--it ain't cheap!
Yeah, it quiet expensive, but I don't change it, and is the previous step, to start making your own beer. It's a very interesting, extremely exciting and mildly disappointing experience, when you drink your own, first beer.
They should have shown a Dutch commercial for Stella. Not a French, seeing as Leuven (not louven as said in the video) is located in the Flanders.

+MrStensnask agreed! Kokanee is rather pricey in Ontario but an excellent brew. This list is way off
+DanDunfordRSM Moosehead Pale Ale all day long ! mmmm
+DanDunfordRSM it tastes worse than my pee
Is this list a joke? Except for one or two czech beers every other had to be german
The host said one per country. Didn't you listen?
Thats why this list has to be a joke ;)
belgium also has some great beers but generally locally brewed german and austrian beers adhering to the reinheitsgebot are the best
jussmaster While I don't agree with many things said about Germany (positive or negative), this is true:) Czech and German beer (and some Polish ones as well) are usually the best ones, at least in the opinion of many. There is a reason why every year over 6 million people visit the Oktoberfest^^ "Reinheitsgebot" ftw.
P.s.: Still one of my favourite beers is Guiness, allthough many of my fellow country men would disagree here, I guess. Well I spent an entire year there as well, so maybe this shouldn't come as a surprise.
actually chezhs make better beer than germans!
Can't disagree with No. 1
What about Australia, Crown larger, Victoria Bitter, Carlton draught, XXXX you're missing out
Yeah was surprised not to see anything from Oz on here. Clippers, Hahn, Pure Blonde, Tooheys... list goes on.
Pretty sure they either just slighted us OR they left us out because Australia deserves it's own "Top 10 Australian Beers" video.. Don't disappoint me Watch Mojo *shakes fist*
All of the best beers are in australia
I'm australian and all of those beers are shit and don't sell well internationally
Sgt. Tibbs
Annnd theres always one.
Radegast is my favourite... but Yeah, it's not like every beer in the world can make it to the list.
Radegast is good but pilsner and holba r better i think
Zuzana Storzerová
Different strokes for different folks. I prefer Radegast and no one is gonna change that.
I think Starobrno is the best Czech beer ;)
Why the fuck is Heineken #2???
Ikr??
+Vectrex2809 Because it is known world-wide, sells-world-wide, and tastes pretty damn good!
+21inchwide Tastes good huh? You've never had real beer did you? Heineken barely qualifies as beer, it's more like mass-produced piss that looks like beer. Try some actual Czech or Belgian beer and come back to me afterwards
Did that already, many years ago. check my other comments.
+Vectrex2809 heinken sucks balls, waste of time and cash
A lot of the beers i liked have been reformulated:.
Dos Equis dark and San Miguel dark are two examples that tasted much better in the past.
