I so love your videos, as a retired 71 year old telecoms engineer, it’s so inspiring to see such down to earth practical skills you demonstrate and hopefully encouraging the next generation, we need more of this in the UK so we don’t lose our engineering heritage. Keep up the good work.
Great design - who would have thought that aluminium boxes would be the ideal solution. You may want to consider a weatherproof ( rain proof ) cover for your boxes & trailer as your beloved boxes have so many holes to let rain and road spray into them. A tarpaulin cover should work
Replying just to boost visibility on this. 100% agreed, it would be a terrible shame if this beautiful mobile workshop became structurally damaged by travelling around with it.
This is turning into such a collection of near-perfect things for you that it looks to be actually perfect. The aluminum boxes; the Euro crates; the tool box; the black Festool platform; the table saw. And all of them on the amazing electric trailer! This is like peak Laura Kampf!
The fact that you can imagine it, and then go find materials in or around your workshop to make it happen is so cool. Strike while the creative juices are flowing.
An extra detail that's really smart in this stage of the project is that the handles for the drawers are spring-loaded so they won't be flopping around and rattling when the cart is in transit. Sure, everything *else* inside might be noisy and jostling around, but the handles will always lay flush and stay put. It's just one nice extra touch.
I love your ingenuity when you have a problem. Your ideas and workarounds are top notch! Can't wait to see this get finished. Also, please, please, please wear eye protection and a dust mask when using your grinder even with aluminium. Those little particles can do BIG damage.
How can we always be this lucky? Because you clearly love what you’re doing. You focus on your successful moments and put the setbacks in perspective. This is a formula for a happy life.
I'm newer to the channel, so I'm probably late to notice things. Having the sizes and shapes (Philips' head vs. flathead) engraved or painted on the handles so they are easy to see is just absolutely genius!
When you put the tablesaw on it at the end I yelled AUGH out loud because it is so, so perfect. I got secondhand ASMR from how perfectly segmented and modular this build is. SUPERB! EXQUISITE! BRAVO!
This was a perfect demonstration of skill and experience combined with a sprinkle of luck, turning out beautifully. I'll never not be impressed by Laura's ability to visualise a project multiple steps ahead. ❤
Quick PSA because I love this channel, consider wearing a mask when cutting/grinding aluminum, research shows the dust can have nasty long-term effects on the body. (Alzheimers and tissue scarring) Be safe out there friends!
You really should be a spokesperson for an aluminum box manufacturer. :) I love seeing your creative solutions for what challenges are put in front of you. And that you look to use what you have not just go out an buy something new for each project.
If I hadn't been binging Laura's whole channel for the past week I'd think the Perfect Fits were scripted... But she's honestly just THAT good! New favorite UA-camr, hands down.
This video sums up everything you do! A perfect snipit of tools, the shop, the yard, the combination of aluminum boxes and wood, neon loops, black paint, euro boxes and Felix! If anybody else used that combination of materials it would look like a disaster.😅🙏🏼🌈🥳🍻

Watching Laura enjoy making stuff so much makes me want to make stuff too, and not just watch other people doing it
OK, I love this, but what REALLY got me of all things was painting the screwdriver tip shape in white marker on the top of each screwdriver. Honestly, MIND. BLOWN. I'm going in and marking my whole set now.
@14:10 i think the soul comes from the basic structure and the process you go through to create it. the details make the personality. and you do both so well!!
Tipp : Nimm eine Sackkarre für dein Werkzeugkoffer ! Und ehrlich wer sein Handwerk liebt macht seine Schubläden mit Fingerzinken oder Schwalbenschwänze ! Other question : how do you protect that from the weather ?
I very much enjoy your channel. I wish it would have been around when I was young. If I had this to encourage me then I may have enriched my life and increase my self image. You are doing a wonderful thing for young women and girls keep up the good work. Thanks, Judy
I think its fantastic. There is always a different set of tools required depending on the job, with what you have developed it will be easy to swap out one set for another. You may just be a Genius!
Laura, you have such an excellent understanding of design. Being able to reduce simple shapes, forms and materials into a cohesive visual language and multifunctional forms is such a powerful skill
Laura, I don't know if it's been said already, but don't forget to add some sort of locking mechanism to the drawers so they don't inadvertently open (like when you're making a left or right turn).
I love the build! I would strongly consider putting some friction or locking fids on the drawers if they don't have an integrated positive lock. Sailboats have this problem where they will lean over in the wind and drawers will fly open, so they all have a locking fid (usually just a tab of wood or metal) that turns to lock a drawer in, and pivots up to allow the drawer to open.
After watching some of your challenges and setbacks with both houses and numerous other projects, it's a pleasure to see a project come together so perfectly. It's as if the universe was your ally.
I think you should consiger fastening everything, so that if you hit a bunp in the road - which I guarantee will happen - things don't fly off the trailer. Or slide sideways. Good luck!
Love watching your creative mind use what you already have to make what works best for you. My only concern is while the holes in the crates help keep the weight down they also allow for weather conditions in. Looking forward to more creations.
Some of my favorite builds are the ones that have those details that you mentioned in the outro. The gaps in the wood supports to pass a strap through; the nylon loops at the bottom to be able to anchor down the top modules; the black worktop with the holes to be able to use the clamps. Every single detail was thought about and it all feels very *Intentional*. That's what makes this build one of my favorites! I look forward to every video you release!
at this point someone is going to start an aluminum box company just to sponsor your channel, Laura! also it's just so satisfying how everything comes together so nicely when you use them, it's like it was meant to be!
if you want to make the workshop part removable, the only way i can think of right now is to make fold down out riggers that pick it up of the cart. I'm assuming you can engineer a system that folds down the 4 legs separately but then screw or hydraulically lifts all 4 corners at the same time. Excited to see what you come up with.
I understand fully just how important a good workstation is. Ive down sized from conventional opinion several times and I am able to handle the majority of my work. 👍🏻🤙🏻
I keep thinking what a great project followed by the “ I wonder how it will be weather proofed for rainy day travel time. But of course you can sew a removable cover for it now that you have sewing skills.
Laura, you're an artist in the medium of aluminum boxes. And why not? They're light, corrosion resistant, and truly geil. Thanks also for leaving in some German in your videos, it makes me feel more worldly with my memories of high school German allowing me to catch one word in twenty and learning important new ones like geil.
a latching system that engages a leg or sth if the carrier base of the back is pulled out from the trailer to be stand alone would be cool? so it folds it back if pushed over a railing system and secures it back. I think I am reminded of those systems from firefighter trucks.
Me and my students build competitive robots, and for that we need a cart to use in the pits to work on our bot, it has to be portable and have everything we need, we are watching your design/thought process and admiring what you are doing. Thank you for the great video and sharing your thoughts.
Hi Laura this project is coming together beautifully, so many serendipitous coincidences, like it’s meant to be. Another great video, thanks for sharing.
i recall the conversation you had with your crazy wonderful Swedish maker-friend about possibly moving to LA because of a love interest - and all i can think about is WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO FELIX!! he has become such a wonderful and integral partner in all the projects you do with him. if you go to LA you have to have Felix come for some projects, no question.
@@m.maclellan7147 i know that! :-) have been following her for a long time, too. rather than using her name i was just being a bit more descriptive on how i feel about her.
Please restock the blue beanie! I have been checking every week for a year haha. I want one so bad. Awesome video as usual. Always fun following you guys on your builds.
I love this build! Just one practicality thing: roads are very hostile environments, where water will not only come from above but also from below (spray from your or other's wheels).
Was ein Zufall das die Box genau passt und das auch noch bis zur Markierung. Dabei stand sie schon seit Jahren genau an dieser Stelle. Man muss auch mal Glück haben Laura
You should try sourcing like a gurney for the mobile part of the workbench, easy to take on and off the trailer. Or maybe look at how the wheels and undercarriage fold out and retract and try building one from scratch :)
I thought of that too. She just needs wheel brackets that flip open with springs. When on the trailer, they hinge toward the center against spring pressure. When pulled out, the springs flip the brackets down and toward the end, going over center a bit in order to firmly sit and not be likely to fall back down if you hit a bump while pushing it. If designed right, the wheels can also protrude a bit when folded in order to allow rolling on and off of the trailer. You could also have the rear bracket sit on a swiveling "truck" to allow steering it (like a toy wagon).
11:14 I see a lot of arcing in the commutator of your saw, looks like it could use a new pair of brushes. I absolutely love the design of your mobile workshop. Cheers from your biggest fan from Poland.
watching this made me think about my heavy duty plastic boxes. i keep wanting more storage boxes, but i could easily adapt it. cut handles in the sides and do more with them! just so fun seeing you work, solve problems. just wish i had all your tools
The aluminum boxes were just waiting for it, now you can customize a box for every application (wood, metal...). I'm looking forward to the further videos. Video idea for another essay: Mobile welding station
Laura and Felix excited speaking german is just wholesome
Love how they always say „aaaalter!“ reminds me of my school days :D
Do they rerecord their videos in German for their home audience?
@@2nd3rd1stnope. Most Germans speak English today anyways and those who don’t aren’t the target audience 😅
