There was one line I really liked. It was something like Judy telling Nick “you’re not like them”(referring to other foxes/predators) and Nick replies with “so there’s a ‘them’ now”. I thought that was pretty powerful
I think this movie really captures the diversity that we, as a society, push onto ourselves and this movie explains how that’s wrong while also keeping us entertained. It’s a really great concept and gets the love it deserves. It’s also eye opening and tells us “even if you don’t think you are the problem, you could be.” And makes us look deeper into others, and ourselves. It encourages us to try to be better. And I really like that about it. Plus it’s just a really funny, cute and clever thing. I also enjoy that there isn’t a love story like so many movies try to make.
Yes indeed
I mean saying them was kinda racist
@@raptorjesus5870 wdym
I love Nick cause I can relate to him
Left out: The language Gideon (the bully) used sounds a lot like words a therapist would use! He went and got help for himself! That's a huge win!
Daniel : If you remember the scene, Gideon actually mentions that he has been going to see a therapist.
You forgot a continuity win: Emmett Otterton was yelling about night howlers because he's a florist, therefore knows what they actually are.
And he must have somehow found out too much: so he had to be "taken out".
Mr. Big: "Otterton is my florist. He's like a part of the family. He had something important he wanted to discuss. That's why I sent that car to pick him up. But he never arrived."
Manchas: "There was no warning. He just kept yelling about the Night Howlers. Over and over. The Night Howlers!"
Sounds like Otterton figured out (at least some of) what was going on, which unfortunately immediately made him a target. He was darted, realized his mind was slipping away, and only had a few seconds left to get some sort of message out before going feral, so he picked the flower's colloquial name, hoping it would be memorable enough to be passed on to someone who could help. Pretty horrifying situation to be in.
another continuity win: when nick walks past that farmers guys stand while walking away from judy, he steals some blueberries, setting up his affinity for them. it makes his choice to put some of the blueberries from judys farm in his pocket more reinforced.
idk; i thought i was pretty cool for noticing
I'm more upset by the fact that Otterton's yoga instructor for 6 years doesn't even know who he is but his naked receptionist friend remembers him instead
@@mrbyun7135 as mentioned in the video, it's done so to show some actually don't fit the stereotype. Sometimes elephants do forget, and yaks remember everything. That's why in the next scene they have an animal that does fit the stereotype, with sloths.
For me, it wasn't the scene of Nick 'killing' Judy that was boarderline traumatizing. It was the scene with the muzzle. Because you can see how badly it affects Nick, even decades later. It shaped his entire world view: that no one can be trusted, because no one would ever see him as anything more than a untrustworthy fox. The cinematography, the dark lighting, and the quick movements as the muzzle is shoved onto Nick's face...it's a great scene, but it's also one of, if not THE darkest scenes in the movie.
i know. it shows that once something traumatic happens to you as a child, it ducks u up for life
Maybe I've learned all the wrong lessons in life, because my viewpoint is that nobody cares about your dreams, and that you should rely on yourself more than you do on others. And my childhood was kinda like Nick's; absolutely nobody ever liked me, and I didn't even have to be a Fox for that. Hell, I wasn't even any kind of ethnic minority. Maybe it was because of my Asperger's? Either way, sometimes you're better off being self-reliant is what I'm saying. And if you HAVE to rely on others, make sure it's someone who's actually compassionate about your goals, and doesn't just pretend to.
@@simple-commentator-not-rea7345 I know how that feels, I was bullied all my childhood, so now I struggle with trusting people and have low self-esteem.
Prejudice against preds is the city's undoing

I love that money line
"They gave me an offer I couldn't refuse, money,"
Yeah! It's actually really strong when you think about it
@@_SpreadingLove_ or really just a godfather reference like the one in the movie
It’s honestly really sad because it applies to the real world all the time. For example, companies that produce/mine oil, landfill/incinerator companies, gas station companies, and car companies don’t really care about climate change, all they care about is the money they get from using gasoline/oil/fire/leaving trash to rot, and using renewable energy seems to be just too much for them.
(Obviously it’s near impossible to just stop climate change, because humanity depends on electricity, cars, etc. Until products using renewable energy like Teslas, wind/water turbines, and solar panels are more affordable to the general public and are more efficient than fossil fuels, companies would probably invest in that instead. Or if the governments of the world make laws to slow down climate change. Or if people’s voices are loud enough, we might be able to change the world.)
@@ReusableRocket the line isn't that deep in this movie, it's just meant to be a funny take on the godfather scene
@@ReusableRocket Another state fan thinking the state is here to help.
The state is part of the problem.
How zootopia was made:
Writer: I think we should make a buddy cop movie.
Producer: did you say a bunny cop movie?
Writer: ... uh... yes
The original script for this movie was much darker actually, where the predators wore these things called t.a.m.e. collars which would shock them if they got too "emotional" towards "prey"
Couldn’t think of a channel name that’s amazing
"Why are they animals?"
"I dont know"
"Well okay then"
"Inexplicable anthropomorphic animals are TIGHT"
"Yea yea yea"
lol
More than that
There's one little detail in this movie everyone seems to miss that I really like; that they made Emmett, the otter who goes missing, a florist. Because he's the one that reveals the name Night Howlers, confusing everyone into thinking that it's the wolves and then the later clarification. Since his job revolves around flowers it makes sense that he'd know not only the nickname of this flower, but also that they are the reason he begins to lose control in the limo, hence him shouting it as he goes "savage." Just a nice detail to remove possible plot holes that I appreciate.
Wow, I keep learning new things about this movie, but I never figured that one out. There's a lot of information imbedded deeply in the story, and I think this is one of those (probably rare) stories that holds water pretty efficiently.
Savanna Carlson oh my gosh I never noticed that! Great catch!
Savanna Carlson Precisely. Mr. Big tells Judy that Emmett had an important thing he wanted to tell him as well. I liked that.
Savanna Carlson ...you mean you guys didn't figure that out right away? Florist and flowers in the same movie...
I did notice and appreciate this plot point. However, Judy correctly identifies Night Howlers by their scientific name and even their regulatory class in the early scene with Bogo, so perhaps the biggest plot hole for me is that she needs her parents and Gideon Grey to tell her the colloquial name for these flowers and that they can cause animals to coke out. This is knowledge that I would expect her to have having grown up on a farm where these plants are used as a warning. Furthermore, she knows Otterton is a florist, so given the intelligence she displays throughout the film, she should have put two-and-two together way earlier and without needing the reminder.
While I'm on the subject of plot holes, there's also the fact that while it's referred to as 'darting', the gun shoots capsules of distilled Night Howler that splatter against the animals' coat. I'm skeptical that the drug could have such a drastic and immediate effect without getting injected directly into the bloodstream, but that aside, it seems unlikely that the scientists under Lionheart wouldn't have noticed the blue residue on at least a few of the predators that went savage and figured it out on their own.
None that really matters, though. I f*cking love this movie and the attention to detail is way higher than that of most other films.
I found the sloth in the fast car thing funny because I don't really think he was going so fast on purpose. I think it just takes him a really long time to take his foot off of the gas so he's accidentally speeding.
🤣🤣 Hilariously good point
Rachel Morones Hahahahaha good point
LMAO
First thing I thought when I saw it. I could just see Nick trying to explain it back in the squad room, even the Chief would laugh!
I love that
I will absolutely admit that one of my favorite things about this movie is that every time Judy runs into The Godfather’s daughter, she always compliments her. Every time, no matter the situation, Judy compliments her hair, dress, all of it. It’s so cute
The adorable way the daughter says, "oh, THINK yeww!" like a squeak, and I know women who actually say it this way...
@@Deviantygr Me, I'm that woman
The only way that could have been better is if they would have thrown in a reference about Women's outfits with pockets. That would have be perfect.
And then it all pays off at the end when she decides she's going to name her daughter "Judy." What goes around comes around!
Couple of things I liked. Gideon obvoiously had some therapy because his apology used some words bigger then him :o
And when they both get dumped in the water, Nick calls out Carrots followed by Hopps followed by Judy, getting more and more personal as he gets more and more worried
:O
I was rewatching it today and when he said "Carrots?! Hopps??! JUDY?!?!" I was like "ooooooooooooooooooooh"
I noticed that and I lived that detail so much
I like that second one, it's very real. I read this book once that was set in the Vietnam War, and the main character was always referred to by his squad as a nickname. But there was one point in the book when they had to move the body of a squad mate and they used the main character's first name to get his attention. That's the one time they used it. It hit pretty hard.
R41NF1R3 whoa what book is that?
@@sakareeh I don't quite remember the name as it was years ago, but it was fiction.
I believe Clawhauser deserves a win too, he's too cute to not include.
Voltaic Fire I mean, Clawhauser is a cheetah, so that did break some stereotype there, because cheetahs are fast, slim, and hardly get tired, while Clawhauser is fat and doesn't run much without getting tired. Ok, he's a donut lover cop, but, y'know, gotta have at least a bit of stereotype to make it fun (it's still a Disney movie). And it's not like donut lover cops don't exist at all, right? Also, I wouldn't call him "incompetent", because even though he gets distracted, he still sent those reinforcements when Judy called (jaguar scene). That's his job, and he did it, so why complain?
@Voltaic Fire Normalising morbid obesity? I prefer providing representation for plus size people, tbh. And as was said above - he's not incompetent. And he's not mean spirited, and he has an actual story role that doesn't involve getting in the way of the protagonist. All those things are normally often associated with fat people in kids' movies, so it's nice to see them steer clear of that.
@Voltaic Fire yes, I agree obesity should not be encouraged, and there are seriously better ways for representation. Watch the Regular Show episode where Rigby abuses his body so much because he's "perfect as he is" that his body completely gives up on him.
It's a perfect example that your body is a temple, and true self love is improving yourself and guiding yourself down the path to become your best self.
Not for others, but yourself. Makeup, workout, fashion. It can make yourself happy if you know you're doing it to feel good.
Can we just have a movie like that please?
He's my favorite
and yet the city decided that they couldn't risk this cute person to be at reseption because "racism"
I like how you winned Judy using her ears for her expressions but not her thumping or her sniffing real fast, which are things rabbits do when frustrated and nervous, respectively.
true my bunnies do that
Funny Bunny shut up. Your only useful for putrefying water
Killer Kirby I think I found the I found the Skunk right here ⬆️
I have rabbits, and they do thump (I call it a ‘stomp’) whenever they are frustrated or upset about something. And rabbit noses twitch generally all the time, but they do twitch faster depending on how stressed or frightened the rabbit is. That was a attention to detail that made me smile.
@@emmawiley2452 Thats what my bunny did too, when I was a kid. It was a very patient fella who was okay with being pet all the time. But when he finally had enough he ran into his bunny house and thumped the floor. :D RIP Wölkchen
I think having the predator/prey stereotypes not line up one to one with real world racial stereotypes is a fantastic choice because it lets people learn the lessons the film is teaching in something of a vacuum, and then apply the lesson to the real world, rather then feeling like it's preaching a particular position beyond "stereotypes are bad". If the film was explicitly about gender discrimination, or sexual discrimination, or race discrimination, I feel like it would turn a lot of people off and make them not really want to watch the film because it would come across as too much of a lecture. This feels more like an abstract case study.
I also love the fact that Judy is both discriminated against AND has her own prejudices and biases, because in the real world this happens a lot! It is entirely possible to be the victim or subject of discrimination while holding your own prejudices, and learning to recognise the ones you may unknowingly carry is a very important lesson, especially when you may be used to looking at yourself exclusively as a victim of discrimination rather then as a perpetrator.
Also Nnick and Judy are adorable. God I love this film.
yeah just because you are judged doesn't me you judge others!
And then the case study is even more perfect because of the character contrast - Judy, who's always been sure of her identity, and Nick, who never found an identity of his own so he just became what the stereotype told him to become.
Another detail that I love is the interracial or maybe interspecies romance Nick and Judy develop throughout the movie. Sure, many people would think they are just two best friends but when I look at them I just get Shepard/Tali vibes. Two different species from two different worlds(metaphorically, not literally) who develop feelings for one another after going through numerous life-changing experiences together. They're just perfect together.
What Is This?! Apparently they become a couple in the sequel
Ah yes, Nnick.
"My mommy says she wishes you were dead."

Okay, things that I thought should have been given their own individual wins:
1) How Judy's ears go down as she's humbled and in awe when she first sees the city. Good "sense of scale" moment.
2) Nick and Judy each have their own personalities and takes on life, but they each have their own kind of "smarts" to them that works well. Not just a "book smarts/street smarts" fashion, but their chemistry helps them overcome their goals.
3) Little Nick is just super adorable. So sweet!
4) That flashback to Nick's childhood was way more real than expected. But at the same time, it makes an excellent contrast to what the movie is supposed to be speaking out against. Everyone, no matter who they are, can fall in love with the tiny version of Nick, then feel their hearts ripped out in unison with his when he gets bullied and scarred for life.
5) Hey, Disney made another feature length animated animal movie. Nice!
6) A reference to Bruce Lee's famous "slowly building excitement" was used in the final shot of the movie with the sloth.
I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. I've gotta give this film another go!
"They offered me what I couldnt refuse...money"

Yeah you're right! Big hero 6 too made for TV series.
you also got to give bellwether credit for one of the best villain lines in a movie which is..."fear always works, and i'll dart every predator in zootopia to keep it that way"
+btamamura like the american election ?
+Ricky Pratama ayyyyy lmao
I guess prejudice has a way of creeping everywhere you go... Which is why movies like this are still relevant.
Ronald reagon is a sheep confirmed
so you mean like President Trump's former lies about former President Obama Not being born in the U.S. and that he (Obama) is actually a Muslim?
the "dunna" dna line is interesting because it is meant to make him seem like a dumb brute but for him to have that kind of verbal disconnecct he would have had to read the word and never hear it spoken aloud.
The best thing about these two is the fact that Nick and Judy go from hate teasing, to friendly teasing, to straight up flirting with each other throughout the movie.
Not just a kid's movie. This is one of those movies that almost everyone can find something to truly enjoy... Including your CinemaWins Review :-)

You forgot how everything, everything, is relevant to solving the mystery.
Otterton being a florist may seem like unimportant information, but looking back that explains how he was able to recognize the nighthowlers as he was going savage.
Same thing with Judy's parents being farmers. It may not seem to be a plot-relevant thing but the writers found a way to make even this simple fact move the case forward.
I am amazed at how they made everything and every event help move the story along further down the line. +1 win from me. : )
Indeed! :) Nothing was wasted, and was all well thought through! :) One of my all time favorite movies!
I hope there's a second one coming out in a few years! Anyone agree?
AND, they actually took the time to infer why Judy and her family wouldn't call them night howlers. Judy didn't know the "street" name for them because she grew up with a family that was very proper about their farming. She knew the general and scientific names, and those would be all she'd ever need.

SHE'S SMALL. Seeing someone shorter than you and a petite person, it's like a random gigantic confidence boost, all you tall guys are lucky
Trade heights? I hate being tall so much and wish i was just short.
I hate being tall, your taller than your classmates, crushes, and family members.
I want to be MEDIUM
Gotta mention this about Gideon Gray though - his little speech about having a lot of self-doubt in his youth that manifested itself in the form of unchecked rage and aggression is really sweet compared to how he couldn't even say "DNA" as a kid. A real kick in the knees to the dumb southerners cliche, and the unapologetic bully one.
Madenique van Wyk and it plays like something a shrink would say and hes just memorize the line to help explain why he did what he did when he was younger
Exactly! A simple sorry wasn't good enough for him; that's really sweet.
Madenique van Wyk I hate the dumb southerners cliche to be honest. I'm from the south; south Louisiana. The amount of times I've seen it is annoying, borderline offensive. I can tell you that, in just seeing my Gifted class and growing with them, we have some goddamn amazing minds down here.
By far the worst stereotypes are the Canadian ones. We're constantly pushed around and made to feel week stupid and inferior because of our culture, like we're all a bunch of uneducated hunters that love hockey and maple syrup that live in cabins and wear plad hats, dennim jackets and snow boots all the time. Or that our military/police are jokes. Or that we all say aboot? Or have a weird accent?
Bah, the American stereotype is that we're all a bunch of lunatic cheeseburger eating patriots that love guns and that we're all rootin' tootin' cowboys. Most of the time, stereotypes aren't real or right. It's just best to not let it get to ya. Hell, the stereotype I got for Canadians were that they were the nicest people on Earth, nothing derogatory.
I guess the ones that hurt our feelings are the ones we remember most, huh?
You didn't win the part where "Toot-toot" spits out the pacifier and threatens to bite Nick's face off. Seriously. That was a twist no one could have seen coming.

I just now made the connection: Finnick, because he's a Fennec Fox. With the disproportionately large ears and everything. That's awesome.
Finnick is my favorite Disney character, and fennec foxes are my favorite animals. I started freaking out when I saw Zootopia for the first time and I noticed a fennec fox lol
"You kiss me tomorrow, I bite y'all face off!, Ciao."
I love this movie and the message that it sent, the racism and the deeper meanings are really good in this and I love Nick and Judys relationship.

Facts: This film should have a sequel.
nope.
@@nickclark18 I feel like if they make a sequel it will ruin the first movie, unless it's actually good, but I'm glad we're getting Zootopia plus in November, they'll probably just be fun shorts nothing major to the story.

So I watched this movie with my siblings, cousins, mom and aunt. my mom fell asleep half through the movie and woke up at the ending credits. mom asked what happened and my aunt said " the secretary did it. you could say she pulled the wool over everyone's eyes." I was nearly rolling on the floor laughing!
That didn’t happen dont lie to me
it did though.

You missed a lot about the underlying race message here and judy’s changing attitudes towards nick and his role in the zoología society.
When nick says “oh so there’s a *them* now”, that powerful. And I feel as if you didn’t quite fully explore one of the most masterful parts of this semi adult movie
It’s not just about race tho
As a one hundred and ten percent believer in therapy, I really like that the bully fox (forget his name) used speech indicative of therapy. Especially because he did that thing where you roll your eyes to try to remember something. I just really appreciate that there is a minor villain who sees the problem with his actions, takes steps to fix them, and really turns his life around

also i love how the police force is being portrayed somewhat realistic even with the fact that theyre actually wearing situational gear and armor... during the big busts they roll up in heavy vehicles and heavy armor but while going on patrols they keep it lighter with what most likely is a soft bullet proof vest thats more designed to stop lighter grade guns and knives with built in knee and elbow pads to be semi less intimidating and somewhat more agile
I always thought it was clever placing the tundra by the desert because they can use the hot air generated by the refrigeration units to heat the desert section.

No
So... Who else wants to see a sequel for this?
Yes
I wouldn't mind this staying as a stand-alone.
Frozen gets a second part, which doesnt need one, so why not a better movie?
And the protagonists are the best in a disney movie since years.
Idk, to show that good movies don't always need sequels, which usually even end up being a lot crappier?
These protagonist cant just stay in one movie.
And for me, Zootopia felt like 1/4 of the whole story.
1:04 The whole view of Zootopia's city really reminds me of Breath of the Wild's map with it's different climate areas. Am I the only one who sees this?
the addition of eyebrows for a lot of anthropomorphic characters in animated movies were an easy way to sell the expressiveness of the characters, and i respect the modelers, riggers, and animators who also somehow made the character's movements look like a blend of a human and whatever animal they are. it shows that they put a lot of effort and love into this film.

I always loved the slight inclusion of LGBT in the form of Judy's neighbours, you can search it up online, they're a confirmed gay couple. It's not much and it's not mentioned in the movie other than the credits, but it's still something. I hope they work on it more in the future.
Judy could be struggling with feelings, she might like someone of a different species and feel bad about it but her two neighbours might be likr "wtf thats alright cause we're all different" It would be quite fun.
Oh come on the Breaking Bad reference doesn't get a win?
argella1300 totally fuckn got it
Neither did Nick standing up to Chief Bogo, Judy hustling Nick, the scene at the ice cream parlor, Nick's joke at the DMV, the Moana foreshadowing, the Monsters Inc. reference with Bellewether's recorded boasting, and the fact that Ginnifer Goodwin was legit crying during Judy's apology to Nick.
It does. The 'single fly wouldn't shut down production' line is him giving credit where credit is due
well actually in breaking bad there is basically half of an episode centred around walter trying to get rid of a fly in the lab which stopped production completely so he did technically win the breaking bad reference
argella1300 what?! Y u no win breaking ba-a-a-a-ad.. sorry

I absolutely love this film! On the one hand, it’s a brightly coloured, fun animated film about talking animals that’s sure to entertain kids. On the other hand, it’s writing is compelling, and it’s clever meaning that adults can enjoy it too, and it’s also managing to showcase a very important issue in the world in a kid friendly and culturally sensitive way, really showing people the effects of bullying, racism, segregation. This film is a masterpiece.
It really is a masterpiece, it really surprised me when I saw it in theaters for the first time. It just gets better every time I rewatch it.
Personally I think this movie deserved more wins. The animation is astounding and the subtle details such as Judy's foot tapping when she's mad adds a genuine animal feel to the movie

I felt so much hatred for those kids. I know they're just kids but in the moment I hated them. Poor Nick.
and Young Nick was so flipping adorable. I just wanted to hug him.
I quietly cried when I saw that scene in the movie
My favourite film of all time.
God, it's a legit extravaganza of treats, the distinctive characters, breathtaking animation, consistent continuity and an impactful story.
But I was most impressed with the context and pacing, even some of the most praised films can suffer from that at times:
Lion King with its Second Half.
The Kung Fu Panda trilogy for having Monkey pointless.
Beauty and the Beast original film with how undercooked some characters are (Mostly Le Fou and Maurice)
And how the Lego Movie's Everything is Awesome song can be a bit if a turn off.
But Zootopia/Zootropolis never had that moment, everything went incredibly well, when I try to think of problems, there are reasons to how they make sense.
I believe everyone needs to watch it, the message can be preachy but it'll be one that will be relevant for centuries to come.
You definitely should have winned Nick’s bully scene.
That is one of the most raw scene Ive seen in an animated film in years.
It was absolutely, gut-wrenchingly beautifully done. I wasnt even bullied but I felt every second of it.
I think nick holding the tea cup with is pinky out deserves a win ( when they ice weasels on)
Did anyone else notice when Bellwether says, "And I'll dart every predator in Zootopia to keep it that way!" That she's also mirroring, or something like that, Henry J. Waternoose III from monsters inc?
You're right.
Fun fact: the pig who owns the flower shop that Weaselton stole the Night Howler bulbs from was voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin's real-life husband, Josh Dallas. They met in 2011 when they were cast together as Snow White/Mary Margaret Blanchard and Prince Charming/David Nolan in the TV show Once Upon A Time, and they got married three years later in 2014, two years before Zootopia released.
Very late for this movie, but I wholeheartedly believe that Zootopia is one of the best noir, detective, mystery movies we've had in a long time. Yes it's cute animals but it's also a genuinely fantastic mystery. I rewatch this movie for that alone.
I 100% agree with this. "Zootopia" is probably my favorite Disney movie of all time.
I really hate that when something becomes popular it turns into something people hate just because it's popular.
When Frozen came out it was so loved but now you can't say Frozen is good without getting shit from every direction.
When Undertale came out it was considered the best video game of 2015 and everyone loved it, but then people, most of which clearly never even played the game, made up stupid bullshit to say that it's not good, with no evidence to support such claims.
Why do people have to hate on something just because it's popular?
TheGreatJman1999 to be either edgy, hipsters or the uneducated masses
That, or Hype backlash. They have heard about it so often they just want people to shut up about it, so they shut it down when they can. Silly, but we all need some control of what we hear and when, and this is just one more way that manifests.
I watched Frozen and played Undertale and I didn't like either of them. I didn't understand why Frozen was so popular or why people kept obsessing over Undertale, but then I remember people have a preference for things.
Like Undertale is not my kind of game. Yes I love RPGs and different story endings, but something about Undertale made me just not like it.
