Your videos are very interesting. Thank you very much for your work. No one has ever shown us how to do this in detail except you. Thank you very much, your loyal follower, Wissam from Saudi Arabia🙏🙏 owner of a Mercedes 560SEL.
Great detailed vid...and what a clean rust free car! This will be quite a car by the time you have finished. Looking forward to the first start! Mike in England
Early this year rebuilt fuel pump assembly, replaced fuel tank strainer as well as feed line. I used double nut and bolt to remove fuel strainer. Interesting video for sure!
Hey there MrBobby. I don’t remember if you mentioned which model you have. For the 560SL this misalignment is common and using the bolt-n-nut method as described in the manual wouldn’t work well and could result in a cross threaded strainer. In my case I needed to at least move the tank to remove the strainer. In order to move the tank, you basically have the tank removed so I did. It was super easy to do and didn’t take much time. I think the cost of the socket is less than the cost of the bolt and nuts you will never use again. The level sensor is also 46mm and can be easily replaced with the tank in the vehicle. The level sensor was working when I parked it, but I’m ready to change it if needed. I already have a new sensor I purchased years ago. I think I paid less than $50 and now they are over $200!
@@TonyLiveTV I have a ‘87 560SL. Posted on your Facebook site a few links of my current project. The strainer nut access hole was more in alignment with the access hole on my vehicle than it was on yours……
You are 100% correct. I didn’t have the new one yet and I needed to make some progress. That said, you are supposed to be able to replace the grommet with the tank installed. I just received the new grommet. I think I will install it later today and find out. You’ll notice in the video I did mention that it was not easy to install even with the tank out. We will soon find out.
@@TonyLiveTV I admire your diligence and attention to detail, not to mention your tool chest. And I agree, receipt of parts and the time to replace them don’t always intersect.
@@OB928 I just replaced the grommet. Wasn’t as hard as the first time believe it or not. I was also lucky that the filler nozzle is centered in the hole. Just a little petroleum jelly and just worked it around the hole.
Good job Tony. Seems odd that the strainer could not be made to line up centrally with the hole in the floor when it surely must have been intended that the hole would facilitate its removal without taking the tank out but clearly that was not possible from your efforts here
Actually it is quite common on the 560SL that the strainer hole is misaligned. And to be honest with you, removing it was so darn easy that I probably wouldn’t do it any other way.
I don’t think they are available. For the one next to strainer it is 1074712180 and the return line is 1074712080. It is more of a neoprene rubber and not foam.

Love it, tony! Really excited to see the fuel pumps get replaced.
I can’t wait either. I’ll be uploading later in the week. I’m waiting on parts.

Thank you very much Wissam. I really do appreciate your support.
@@TonyLiveTV you are welcome❤️
Enjoying the progress and the detail! Won’t it be much more difficult to replace grommet at the fill point with everything back in?

Hi Tony, what is the part number of the rubber / foam square around fuel strainer between petrol rank and body, please ? MH
