  • This is the easiest sweater you can make on a knitting machine. I made this drop shoulder boat neck sweater with two colors of Hobii Winterglow wool acrylic blend yarn.
    The Lk-150 is a great knitting machine for beginners: it's still being manufactured so it's easy to find parts and tools, it works with category 2 and category 3 yarns, and it's easy to learn on.

    I have just found Machine Knitting, I did think it was a thing of the past until I started a new job at Silver Reed in the UK. I purchased my first machine at christmas, a Silver Reed SK280 and was fortunate to be gifted and LK150 by my employer. I have been practicing swatches, trying to make garments, searching for patterns. I have been very frustrated and have only managed a hat and a couple of scarves. I am guilty of wanting to run before I can walk. It is so exciting to be able to make a garment so quickly.
    Until I came across your videos I was not being very successful. Last night I made my first sweater and I am so pleased with it. Your videos and patterns are very easy to follow. I love your pattern generator. Thank you for helping a new knitter feel accomplished.

    Wonderful tutorial, too many people thing machine knitting is very complicated but it isn’t really, it’s just like any other project and needs to be broken down into manageable bits. Unfortunately so many newbies try to run before they can walk and want to use the ribber the next day. I have been machine knitting since the 1980’s and enjoy your videos as they are so practical and yes I am with you when you say you want to get more people machine knitting, it’s wonderful, very creative, very rewarding and I, at 5’ short, can make a sweater that actually fits me. Thank you and keep it going, it’s great 👍

    Firstly, Hello from Liverpool, U.K xxx
    I tried a zillion times on different pages/sites etc with absolutely no success at all.
    I stumbled across your beautiful self, followed your instruction to the latter and made the first ever successful garment that I can actually wear!!!
    You have unravelled my defeated mind and got me interested again because of your plain explanation throughout.
    Yes, the jargon etc is important, I.e abbreviations, but to begin with it’s highly daunting.
    You have taken the worries away with your programs and I sincerely hope to learn much more from you!!!
    Thank you for restoring the faith in myself xxxxxx

    Thanks for the relaxed pace video. I think people get enticed by the older machines and the many things they could do. But forget that these older machines only knitted thin yarns that these days is more often baby or sock yarns. The mid gauge machine is the way to go into the future. Leave the older machines for the enthusiasts with deep pockets.

    Depending on the desired width, using 2 carriages can be a faster way of knitting skinny stripes. (also, for wider stripes it's not a huge deal to snip the yarn and weave the ends in to be secured by the new color as you go and trimmed later -- pretty sure I learned that technique from watching another knitting machine UA-camr but don't recall from whom)

    Question regarding the pattern: When I back-calculate the number of stitches cast on it equals my circumference plus ease (4"). And sleeves calculate correctly for intended length and width. But the total number of rows knit ends up calculating to 1" shorter than my intended length. Maybe I am confused about the number of additional rows knit for short rows (I think it is 7). Here are the measurements for you to check:
    Stitches per inch: 5.2 / Rows per inch: 6.7
    Chest circumference:40
    Inches of ease:4
    Finished length:24.5
    Armpit circumference:19
    Hand circumference:8.5
    Sleeve length: 15
    Thanks for this great pattern!

    Looking forward to trying this pattern as my first sweater ever. Can you tell me how many grams of yarn you ended up using, so I have a ballpark idea? Also, with this pattern, would it be possible to do a split hem by mattress stitching the ends of the hem closed for the front and back and then attaching the sides starting at the top of the hem? Wondering if you have tried that...

    I used the drop sleeve sweater app and entered my measurements. It has me knitting 71 rows until the armholes and then 86 rows to the shoulders. This can’t be right. Seems like it should be the other way around. Here are my measurements. Chest-40, length - 25, underarm-19, hand-8.5 with a 4” ease. Thanks for any help

  • @tracytroutman7188
    @tracytroutman7188 4 місяці тому

    So I made this sweater and the armholes were just enormous on me, so I did the math to figure out what the dimensions of the pieces that the calculator gave me. It seems that if I put in 4in of ease into the calculator that the sleeves were also given 4in of ease. I'm assuming that's how this is done but it didn't work for me. I'm choosing to undo the entire thing and start over with slightly different proportions. I've reentered my numbers into the calculator and moved rows out of the armhole-height down into the torso while still maintaining the overall length.

    • @tracytroutman7188
      @tracytroutman7188 4 місяці тому

      I fully acknowledge this is likely an issue with my personal proportions. I know nothing about sweater design so I don't know how ease is meant to be distributed.
      But here are the numbers I used:
      4.05
      6
      45.5
      4
      26.5
      22
      9
