    It is in the works... we are just having a small issue with RAM that we hope will be resolved soon. In the mean time we have built a mobile version of our website specifically for smart phones that you can access just by going to the YoTricks website with your android device. When the app launches it will work very similar to this mobile version of the website.

    @Frogiful Yes, you can do that. Actually the only problem you might encounter is that you might bind the yoyo on accident occasionally. If you can keep that under control there is really no reason not to do what you suggested.

    What kind of yoyo are you using? Did you try the more basic method of just turning to the side and doing a regular throw?

  • @yotricks

    Just the things we mentioned in the video. Try to land it close to your hand work on getting a straight throw.

    If you go to YoTricks.com and then click on Yoyo Tricks in the menu we describe all the different yoyo styles and recommend our favorite yoyo for getting into each.

    Make sure you have your breakaway throw down well and make sure to try to land the yoyo very close to your finger on your opposite hand.
    What yoyo are you using?

    Thanks, I was pulling out my conversion app ;)
    My string length varies between 104 cm and 114 cm. I am 5' 10".
    If you cut your string towards the lower end of that spectrum it will most likely be a good length for your height, but it should not stop you from learning tricks.

    @mimpforlife If you are doing this well with a fireball after only 2 hours I would say that you are doing quite well. The fireball is not suited to this trick, though it can do it. I would recommend getting a wider yoyo like the Luminator we use in this video as it will make the trick much easier. Also, instead of learning this mount first I would go and watch our video where we teach the brain-scrambler. In that video we teach the front mount which is much easier as an entry to string tricks.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    I would recommend either getting the Luminator Advanced Kit, which is the yoyo we use in this video, or the Velocity. We have both on the YoTricks website.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    @DigitalAgeStudios The Cosmic Spin Yoyo is roughly equivalent to the Luminator which we use to show off all our String Tricks. The Boomerang is very much like the Originator which we use for all our beginner tricks. If you are getting into string tricks like the Man on the Flying Trapeze, then the Cosmic Spin 2 wil be much better.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    YoTricks was originally created to promote the Luminator, which is why we use it in so many videos.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    The Raider is a thin yoyo which makes it difficult to use for learning string tricks like this one. It can work, but it will be much easier to learn on a wider yoyo like the Luminator.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    What kind of yoyo are you using? Also, are you able to do several Around the Worlds when you throw a breakaway? If not I would work on getting a few Around the Worlds from a Breakaway, because that will help you get your throw straighter.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    When the yoyo gets on the string it will lean to the side if you touch the yoyo with the string. For example, if you get the yoyo on the front mount and move your yoyo hand to the right so that the string is pushing up against the side of the yoyo, then the yoyo will quickly start to lean. This can actually be useful, because you can correct a yoyos lean in the same way, just push the string against the yoyo in such a way that it will correct the lean.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    Make sure you are using a wide yoyo, that you have mastered the breakaway throw and try to land the yoyo on the string very close to your opposite hand. It will take a little practice but I am sure you will get it.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    Yes, but eventually you should learn to do it with the breakaway because this will help you learn other side-mount tricks easier.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    The Manta Ray has a wood axle which means that it will be difficult to get it to sleep for a long time. If you are interested in learning these types of tricks I suggest you consider getting a ball bearing yoyo like the Velocity, which we have on the YoTricks website.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    I like the Maverick quite a bit. In fact, we made a video about how to mod a Yomega Dash to make it play unresponsive, and the same mod works for the Maverick. When these yoyos are setup to play unresponsive they are some of my favorite yoyos to throw!

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    What do you mean when you say it flys to the side? Isn't it supposed to go to the side? I am not quite sure what you mean.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    Yes, you will just need to bind at the end of the trick.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    When you land the yoyo and it is tilted you can use the string connected to your yoyo finger to balance the yoyo out. So if the yoyo is leaning forwards you can pull the string connected to your yoyo finger back to get the yoyo straight. This should help you keep more spin on the yoyo, which should help with the dismounts.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    @RimochR I have not used that particular yoyo, but there are a few things you can do to make a yoyo responsive. The first is you can get a thinner bearing. Most unresponsive yoyos these days use a size C bearing, and YoyoFactory and YoyoJam have a thin version of this bearing.
    However, even with the bearing that is in the yoyo, if you add some grease (or even Vaseline) to the bearing seat (where the bearing touches the shaft of the yoyo) it should make the yoyo responsive.
    Hope this helps!

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    This is the Luminator setup using the Advanced Kit which we have on the YoTricks website. The Butterfly is not a good yoyo for learning tricks. The Luminator has a ball bearing which helps it sleep 3-5 times longer than the Butterfly. Because the Butterfly does not have a bearing it makes learning tricks much more difficult.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    If you are having difficulty with the breakaway I suggest you use the easier method where you just turn to the side and use a regular throw. Have you tried that yet?

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    If you go to the YoTricks website we have a section under 1A Yoyo Tricks called Unresponsive Basics, that section should have the tricks you are looking for.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    As you practice your breakaway will get straighter, and that will help. In the mean time when you land the yoyo on the string the first thing you should do is use the string coming from your yoyo hand to get the yoyo to balance straight on the string. If you pull back with your yoyo hand string the yoyo will lean back, and vice-versa. Once the yoyo is straight you need to keep the yoyo strings from touching the sides of the yoyo. If you can do this it will help the yoyo sleep longer.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    The yoyo used in this video is the Luminator (in most of our videos we tell you in the description which yoyo we are using, FYI). You can click the second link to see what it costs.
    In my experience regular yoyos do sleep, but I would get a yoyo that is designed for looping, like the Dominator yoyo which is also on the YoTricks website.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  14 років тому

    If you are throwing straight the best thing you can do is try to land it on the string close to your finger. The closer you land it to your finger the easier it is to land consistently.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    OK. The Metal Drifter is a good yoyo for learning this trick. I suggest that, instead of throwing the breakaway into the trapeze, you throw your breakaway into around the worlds. With the Metal Drifter, if your throw is straight you should have no problem getting 10-20 around the worlds. If you are having difficulty getting to 3 or 4 I would just keep adjusting your throw until it is more straight so that you can do more around the worlds. With a straighter throw the trapeze should be easier.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  14 років тому

    @lebron0909 If you are getting it close to your finger but still missing that means that you need to make sure that you are using your yoyo hand to move the string to where the yoyo will be... that is, if you are missing to the outside of the string most of the time then you need to move your yoyo hand forward to make sure that the string will be there for the yoyo to land on. Also, it is possible that you may just need to get a little better at the Breakaway throw.
    Hope this helps!

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    Have you taken a look at our video about how to do the breakaway. We show two ways of doing the breakaway. The easier way is to just turn to the side and do a regular throw.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    Since you can already make your butterfly yoyo sleep pretty good I would recommend getting the Luminator, preferably the Advanced Kit because it will have everything someone at your level needs to progress quickly. Once you are ready to learn to bind and have mastered that trick you will love the velocity, until then the Luminator Advanced Kit will take you where you need to go.
    Do a youtube search for:
    how to bind an unresponsive yoyo
    to see what I mean by "bind" if you do not already know. :)

    What is happening, and what kind of yoyo is it?

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    @franfranmoney This happens on yoyos with a very narrow gap. You may need to get a different yoyo that is made for string tricks (like a Luminator), or, if the gap on your yoyo can be adjusted (like a Fast 201, for example) then you should widen the gap.
    Hope this helps!

    Hey, thanks so much for making these videos! I have renewed my love for yoyo'ing and find your videos extremely helpful.
    Had a quick question for you-- I've been trying to learn Man on the Flying Trapeze, and it seems like every time I mount my yoyo on the string, it slows down way too fast for me to swing it more than 2-3 swings before I have to release it. I play with an Xodus 2 and feel like it sleeps really well. However when the 2nd string is engaged with the axle it seems like it slows down too fast. Maybe it's because the Xodus uses a transaxle instead of a ball bearing?
    Any idea what's going on?

    • @RyanBrady113
      @RyanBrady113 8 років тому

      +Ryan Brady Actually just read your reply to Doobly below, and I think this may be my problem. I'll take your advice below and work on it!

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    Yes, you do need to know the breakaway. If you try this trick with a regular throw you will run into problems, the yoyo will keep binding up on you.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    I'm glad I could help!

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    It sounds like you are right. The Xodus is not so great for string tricks... it is designed for offstring yoyoing.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    What kind of yoyo are you using? Also, when you do the Breakaway throw, are you able to get a very straight throw?

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    This trick is very difficult to learn at first, so don't get frustrated if you are finding it to be a challenge. Any wide yoyo will make this trick easier to learn, because you have more room to catch the yoyo on the string. On YoTricks we have plenty of wide yoyos to choose from, If you are using the Brain XP I have a feeling you will really like the Luminator Advanced Kit or the Velocity. They will sleep longer than the Brain and will work great for learning string tricks like this.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  14 років тому

    It is called a Peter Fish Luminator. It is a new wide body yo-yo that will be available in the middle of January 2010 at YoTricks.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    I would definitely suggest getting a wide yoyo for these tricks. They will be incredibly challenging to learn otherwise. Make sure you get a ball bearing yoyo as well, like the Luminator. Otherwise it will be difficult to get the yoyo to sleep long enough to make the tricks work well.

    @yotricks  11 років тому

    What kind of yoyo is it?

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    @snyperbob You can do a bind to complete this trick. Do a youtube search for:
    learn how to bind a yoyo
    and you should find our video about binding. This will show you what you need to know. We have several binds we demonstrate, and one of them can be done right from the trapeze.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    When the yoyo lands on the string you need to balance it out. You can do this by pushing your yoyo hand forward or backward once you land the yoyo on the string. If the yoyo lands on the string crooked and is leaning towards you, push your yoyo hand forward to balance it out... and vice-versa. Once the yoyo is straight try to keep the strings from touching the sides of the yoyo and it should sleep a long time. If you are doing it right but it still doesn't work you may want to get a better yoyo.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    Yomega is in the process of changing the Dash right now. We may do a video about it when the new version is available.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    You can get yoyos on the YoTricks website and the shipping is not that high.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    The only way to bring an unresponsive yoyo back is to bind it. The yoyo we use in this video is not unresponsive.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    This happens whenever the string is touching the sides of the yoyo. If you throw the yoyo a little bit crooked and the string is touching the sides, then this will cause it to slow down very quickly and twist, just as you described. The same thing happens when it gets on the string. If the yoyo is not straight, or if you are not keeping the strings straight so that they do not touch the yoyo, then the yoyo will slow down quickly and start to twist and the spin will die.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    The only tip I have is that you try to land the yoyo as close to your finger as possible. This is one of those tricks that can be terribly difficult at first, but if you keep at it you will find it getting easier and easier almost every day.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    10 - 20 seconds is not a bad sleep time if you are just getting into yoyoing. If your throw is a little crooked and the string is touching the sides of the yoyo this will cause the spin to die very quickly. If you are able to get a straight throw so that this doesn't happen you will find your sleep times improving.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    Getting the yoyo on the string can be pretty challenging, but when it gets on the string you need to make sure that it is straight and that the string is not touching the sides of the yoyo. If the string is rubbing against the side of the yoyo it will kill the spin, just like you are describing.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    That is a fine yoyo.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    No worries. The Luminator was a good yoyo for us that helped us get YoTricks.com going. Now that it is gone we are moving on to a few other yoyos to fill the void.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    I think that would help, but I am a little surprised that what you are describing is happening at all. Perhaps the gap is just a little too tight and opening it up just a little will help.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    That is a great idea. I'll talk to the guys and see if we can do something like that.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    @DigitalAgeStudios Most of the time when I am leraning new tricks I use the Luminator setup according to the Unresponsive kit. This makes the yoyo unresponsive so it is easier to learn tricks.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    Have you watched our video about how to do the Breakaway?

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    @sskeyblade Yes, vaseline usually works well and it should make an unresponsive yoyo responsive.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  12 років тому

    It sounds like you need to lube the bearing. If you want a ball bearing yoyo to play responsive (which is what you are describing) the bearing needs to be lubed. Be sure to use a synthetic lube, like the Super Lube we sell on YoTricks.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    The Velocity is good for learning these types of tricks, and if you have a Velocity there is really no reason to get a Luminator. I think what is happening is that when you get the yoyo onto the string the strings are touching the sides of the yoyo. This will kill the spin very quickly. If you can keep the yoyo straight on the string and not allow the strings to touch the sides of the yoyo you will find that your yoyo sleeps much longer on the string.
    Hope this helps!

    If you have a ball bearing yoyo it will come back easier if you lube the axle with yoyo lube. Of course, any yoyo will come back better if it is spinning quickly.

  • @yotricks
    @yotricks  11 років тому

    This will happen with any yoyo if the yoyo strings are touching the sides of the yoyo when it is on the string. If you can keep the yoyo straight on the strings so that the strings to not touch the yoyo it will keep this from happening.
