    Now I'll share something with you. Insert your poles, open your hatch halfway, place the tent over the hatch then push your hatch the rest of the way open. My husband did a bunch of research.on these tents, and landed on this one. Tonight he wanted to see what it looked like, so he searched the name and I told him to watch your video because "I trust RVA Hiker Girl!" I bought the bigger 84000 a few weeks ago, and after trying and not really succeeding in setting it up in my too-small back yard, I started watching videos about solo setup. I think you nailed it by attaching it to the back of the vehicle FIRST. That is definitely what I'll be doing. Thanks!

      I have tried it many ways and after some of my viewer comments on how they did it it really helped. Draping the fly over before putting up the 4 poles helps so I don’t struggle with it now. Your tent would be a bit heavier than this one though. So That might work better for you to attach first. For me I like setting it up first then moving it to my car. Less pulling with its weight. @@martina21953 makes sense as it wouldn’t be up as high but you have to be careful if your did that because the weight might engage the hatch to automatically close at a certain point when you pull it down and you risk damaging the tent.

      @RVAHikerGirl  2 місяці тому

      @@laurab7931 yes you can! The key to this is having a stepstool which makes lifting that part over your hatch so much easier. Then you clamp one side to the top roof rack so it doesn’t fall down and then you go run to the other side pull it over and attach that one and clamp it down. I’ve learned after setting this tent up so many times put the fly on before you try to put up the polls. It’s faster and no more struggling to get that on after the tent is already up.. Before a roof top, check the specs for the vehicle; not all can take the load and if you have a full moonroof (front to almost rear) might not be a great idea. Also, roof tops are not for people with dogs, unless you have a small one you can carry up. Just some words of caution.

      @RVAHikerGirl  2 роки тому +1

      Oh no. Don't give up and keep practicing. You will get better with time. It's hard when you have the eyes of other campers watching you. Just do you and don't worry about others. Us gals can do anything we put our minds too. Camping is the best and I absolutely love it. Look for. campsites that you can pull through rather than backing up. They would be RV sites but that might make it easier. Look at Recreation.gov, HipCamp.com, state parks, National Parks, National Forests, there are boondocking apps and websites, as well as free camping websites and apps that I use. Hope that helps. Wishing you many amazing adventures this year! BTW I have another solo car camping video that may interest you as well. ~RVA~

      Still love it. Just as with all my tents except for ones made from Dyneema it must be seam and spray sealed to prevent leaks. No issues with battery dying on my car because I have a switch that cuts off all my interior lights. So I can keep all my doors open including the hatch without fear of the battery running down. There are tricks and hacks for many SUV's on the market that dont have that switch. Hope that helps.

    Consider using a spring clamp during setup to act as a second hand, especially when prepositioning the rain fly. A mark/piece of tape on the tent fabric indicating the final placement will aid in where to set the spring clamp.

    Wonder how this would play out in certain state parks. Went to a park in Pennsylvania with the ex girlfriend last year. First time for me camping as an adult in a park.
    We pulled the car back to unload firewood and gear. The ranger came by to inform us the car had to be parked away from the tent and fire source.
    Otherwise, keep up the great content!!

    • @RVAHikerGirl
      @RVAHikerGirl  Рік тому +2

      I've never had a problem at a state park with this tent. I don't want my tents near the firepit anyway. Nor my vehicle for obvious reasons. Sparks can put a hole in tents. So I generally try to pick a campsite that is an rv site or one that has a longer drive way. In most cases you wouldn't be able to put then tent on a tent pad at a campsite as a lot of tent pads are not connected to driveway. (If you wanted it attached to the car) But if your not going to light a campfire then it really doesnt matter.

    I use a tailveil. There are no poles involved. You just unfold it. Pull it over the hatch and fasten the bottom with bungees to the wheels. Then stake down the tent or just put some weights on the beck corners. That’s it. If you want to add the rain fly, just pull it up and Velcro to the top. Soooo much faster than the Napier.

      Yep, you sure can close the hatch. You don't need your car at all for this tent to free stand on its own. You can detach it, zip it up, and drive away to a hike, etc. Then drive back and reattach. That's what makes this tent so versatile and amazing. ~RVA~

    I loved the video. I really liked that you showed the struggle of putting the rain guard up. My question to you is can you comfortably close your trunk with the tent set up while you are away and want your vehicle to be secure? Also, if you don't have the roof rack can you still clip it on to something?

    • @RVAHikerGirl
      @RVAHikerGirl  2 роки тому +1

      I keep it real in my videos for sure showing the good and bad of my adventures and whatever I am doing. And keep it honest for my viewers on stuff. On my key chain I have a button I hit to open and close my hatch. But when I have the tent on I don't close the hatch. I keep it open for the fresh air, well except in the winter when it's really cold. Otherwise I don't think it would be very easy to close the hatch while in the car. And yes I have had the question before about no roof rack. If you just have side roof rails you can use those or the tent comes with some long straps that you can attach and run to your hood area. I have seen other people attach to the door handles inside the car as well. Hope this info helps. ~RVA~

      The part of the tent that attaches to the hatch can be zipped off for when you drive away and leave the tent on site. It seems like you might get rain inside because the RAI fly does t cover the hatch area, but I left mine in a heavy rain and water didn’t get inside the tent. It’s excellent and I have managed to put it up solo a number of times. 71-year-old female

      They water is funneled down the car into holes at the bumper so it flows out.

      This is the most asked question I get. There’s a switch to cut off your interior lights. If you open any of the doors or the hatch the interior light won’t come on. So no fear of draining your battery.

      You are certainly welcome! Its just folded and tied. I keep it a little thicker in the back to keep those fly aways tamed. But I don't do anything special. I was sweating so much, so that probs kept it from slipping. But no really I don't usually have an issue with bandanas slipping. I wear them with pig tails, braids, as a head scarf, and I use them for wiping sweat and cleaning out my cook pot. Not sure if that helps at all. ~RVA~

      Hey Robert! Thanks for stopping by the channel. Yes, further toward the end of the video I show the awning/vestibule up on one end. There are 2 you can put up, but there are only poles to put 1 side up at a time. But the other one could be tied out using guylines. So happy to hear you enjoyed the video. Comeback anytime! ~RVA~

    Great video. I have a couple of questions. 1. Is this detachable to drive away for the day? 2. Is this suitable for a side opening tailgate ie for a Toyota Landcruiser?

    • @RVAHikerGirl
      @RVAHikerGirl  7 місяців тому

      Yes and Yes! You just take the elastic part that goes around your car off and the tent stands on its own without the car. You can drive back and reattach. And I do believe that a side opening tailgate would work out. It would just obviously take up some room inside the tent for the tailgate.

      @RVAHikerGirl  Місяць тому +1

      @@lonecamper1806 nope, not at all what I was looking for. That one only gives you a a little bit of sun/ rain cover. It doesn’t provide you with an extra room for gear, to sleep, or to move around. That’s one def is not for me

    • @RVAHikerGirl
      @RVAHikerGirl  4 місяці тому +1

      Aww so happy it’s helpful. I have never taken my car on the beach because I don’t have a four-wheel-drive vehicle so I don’t know as far as camping on the beach. I’ve been in one storm with it and it did leak some so I had to go in and seam seal all the seams, and then I spray sealed the rest of the tent, and the fly. With that being said, I seam and spray seal all of my tents that I own, unless they are made from dyneema which is waterproof.
