Look, if someone doesn't know the song...that's what they're here for. It doesn't matter if it's perfectly right. It's a road map for the guitar intro. When I use these tutorials, I use a bunch of different ones. Pick up little things here and there until I get the groove down, in which this video helps you get the groove down. Then I tightened it all with the original recording. So as far as I'm concerned this tutorial done it's job.
Skynyrd is tricky because of the 3 guitar attack they have. If you are a solo guitarist in a band and you are doing a Skynyrd cover it can be tough to try to make the guitar parts sound right with just one guitarist. You kind of have to pick and choose on what riffs you are going to play at certain parts to make it sound right
I agree- these know it all types are annoying, and dismiss decent playing too quickly. Our ear is always going to be better than our hand, but at some point we have to just shut up and enjoy a nice free lesson. I learned some transitions from this kid, I never considered before. Thanks for making this, I’m better for watching it.
Know who notices when a song isn't played perfect? Guitarists. The rest of the audience just hears the "gist" of it. Lots of different ways to skin a cat, and I prefer yours. It sounds close enough for gov't work and nobody says, "What song is that?" Good work.
I think you did a fine job explaining how it's not how ACCURATE you play the song, but the fact that you have to make it your own. Taking bits and pieces of a song and incorporating those licks and hammer on flicks in to your own bag of tricks. Peace
Staged right. Great video. Ignore all of the Skynyrd experts. Saw Skynyrd in 1974 and in 2016. They played Freebird and Tuesdays gone different at both of those concerts. I suspect that Skynyrd would have done the same with "That Smell" . It came out in 1977 and The plane crash happened three days after Street Survivors album was released. No one in the audience seemed to notice except guitars player that love Skynyrd. Its better to feel the music than try to replicate it note for note. I have been playing in a rock band for 20 years and never play a song the same way twice.
Thanks for the kind words Edward! True musicians will understand and appreciate that feeling the music and improvisation is where music becomes part of the soul. If it weren't this way, what would be the point of seeing a live band?! You get it Edward!!! Keep on rockin!
"Saw Skynyrd in 1974 and in 2016. They played Freebird and Tuesdays gone different at both of those concerts."...well....that's not surprising since those are two totally different bands other than Gary Rossington :-)
Anyone can play this if you put everything you have in it. It may take a month of playing the same thing every day 3-4 hours. You will play this if you do it and dont give up
You are a great player bro. The bends and pinch harmonics as well as the tempo y todo is awesome. But cmon bro. All due respect. That intro only sounds right on a chunky Gibson directly into a peavey mace
Esmeralda Chaparra, we apologize for not going into more detail. However, our goal is to keep these lessons short and sweet. In our experience it is better for the guitarist to rewind to the parts that are important rather than sitting and listening to me explain every note and every string. If you are having trouble keeping up I would suggest learning the Am pentatonic scales and have those on lock before jumping into learning a bunch of riffs. It will make your learning process MUCH MUCH easier and will be MUCH more rewarding I promise!!!
Esmeralda Chappara I was indignant like you were when I was just starting out " What fucking strings is he fretting ? " . Dude, there are only six strings, and after spending a little time learning the Am Pentatonic scale and watching this vid, you should figure out what strings he's fretting in 10-15 min. Why don't you thank the guy for putting the time and effort instead of trolling him for someting YOU got for free ? People are so fucking entitled these days.
jeff reed, Sorry you did not like this video lesson. We will try to be more clear in future lessons that we are not providing lessons to play songs note for note. Thats what guitar tabs are for! We simply want to give rockers the foundations to create their own styles of playing while still jamming along with fun recognizable songs!

@Jet agreed bro. I came for a bend and a pinch harmonic. And all due respect, but it only sounds right on a les Paul directly into a peavey mace. Haha

Good lesson man. Thanks.

Man you are awesome, I wish I could do that lol but I'm trying to learn, this has help me alot thank you
Agreed. This guy is the real deal. My only dum complaint is it only sounds right on a Gibson directly into a peavey mace cranked
Allen was like Hendrix in that he did things others have tried to imitate to no avail.
AWESOME !!!
are these pickups the hot noiseless?

would rather watch it played the way its supposed to be played,,thats why I go to concerts,,not to watch someone change the song

yep.. thank you..
Good theory

that poor G string
Where tf are the pinch harmonics
would help if you told us what strings and frets to play, come on dude, we can't tell that strings your even playing, even in slow version

Staged Right The Am Pentatonic is the key. Cant play this until you learn what a pentatonic is.

Funny I can and oh where are your ears
No pinch harmonics? Seem like a nice dude and love the video and sound quality but if you are gonna teach the song do it right
Don’t be a dick
its WRONG !!!
It's definitely not note for note, nor was it intended to be.
John Parker needs to explain why it’s wrong, where it’s wrong etc. or just not comment.
Sheesh.
Making it your own = making it WRONG
true..
sorry bro but your way off with how they actually played this song...if your gonna represent an epic song....you gotta be accurate bro>

All good......keep up the good work
This sucks
I fell asleep...
TERRIBLE !!! RIDICULUS !! KKKK
Do it note for note or else I'll dislike all your videos
Want note for note go look at the tabs for this song. Dude has stated in several comments the video isn’t intended to be note for note.
