their famous remark about the Marines: I wouldn't do it again for a million dollars but I wouldn't take a million dollars to lose the experience.....this performance was the first time I ever saw them [it was live and 1962]. my older sister and her girlfriends screamed their heads off when they saw the haircuts. I remember running to the living room thinking something truly awful had happened. I actually stayed and watched it....!
Yes that was a good quote coming from a pair of then multimillionaires, they didn't need the money, so I doubt they'd done it again for any amount of money.
They were drafted and did it because there was no alternative and being famous gives you a certain amount of extra privileges.
At least they didn't duck and dive to avoid it like so many famous singers and actors did, so I admire them for doing what they did.
Red Head probably because they missed the long hair, they'd lost their individualism and became just like thousands of other's with a shaved hair wearing the same uniform.

Ed Sullivan's reference to Colonel Glenn was for astronaut Marine Colonel John Glenn. This was just two days before Glenn was the first American to be launched into orbit around the Earth on Feb.20 1962.At age 94,he is the only one of the Mercury 7 astronauts still alive.At age 77 he went into orbit on a space shuttle mission and is still the oldest man to go into space.
John Glenn is dead now.

Have ever been in the military. Boot camp changes you. The shine is out of their eyes. But their voices are much stronger. More powerful.
