Try hot gluing your bottle form to a square of white poly cutting board. Should part off with a couple of whacks of the hammer if you strip away most of the hot glue at the base. Cool project!
I'm glad you are working with this. It is a beautiful natural structure. I wonder if it could be flattened if it is boiled or steamed. If not, you might be able to slice and flatten some green cactus and then let it dry across the street from you. I have some releasing agent that is like a paste wax that might be worth trying so the resin doesn't stick to your mold. I have some things to send you and I'll put some in the package.
interesting.... maybe if you find a smaller one, you could do the same process, saw them in smaller pieces and make some interesting potentiometer caps for the tele guitar.... thanks for sharing!
Hey Luke I'm not here to judge I love what you do, all I ever get told is safety, safety, safety! We don't miss something until it's gone! I don't touch polyester, try epoxy resin leaves poly for dead. Is clear, does everything that poly does in my opinion. I just used it to start a bowl. I threw all different eucalyptus gum nuts in it, with red gum for the base and black walnut for the lip. I'll send you a pic when finished if you want to see? By the way, you are very imaginative, creative and talented, you should be proud of yourself!!! Cheers Aussie Sean
You could turn it on the lathe and maybe make it into a shift knob for your truck or something, go look up peter brown or shop time and he does quite a bit with resin and casting along with the lathe, definitely a good guy to watch, he also could teach you a few things about editing and intro and such
What if you sank a piece of rubber tubing down the centre that would give it some flexibility while cooling? You could then rip that out and fill the cavity in with a tiny bit of resin at the end?
Hey bro, I have the same Cholla Cactus skeleton wood that I just collected off the mountain, so the wood is still dirty and all natural. I want to seal it making a little shiny and a bit more solid. This wood is crazy dried out and is weak, in your opinion and or suggestion which is the best stuff to use??
Since you are using a mold like that anyway - next time try a lid, and then suck out the air with an aroo or similar. This will enlarge the bubbles and make them come to the top much better.
I think that I would have left the bottom on and placed a round pc. of scrap pine in bottom and after casting, just bandsaw the bottom off. Otherwise an interesting video.
Excellent idea, building your loyal followers and subscribers will take time and the more you can engage with them (i.e. ask for suggestions on what to produce and give input into projects) the more the audience will grow! I would love to see you create a simple sphere, seems like a great challenge and could be then set up on a small stand made of ironwood! You're doing great, keep striving to improve, and I wonder why your last ukulele vid, the part ten isn't showing up as part of the 'ukulele giveaway' playlist?
As you said, cut back on the catalyst a bit. The instructions are a bit vague on this, but the thicker the pour, the less catalyst is needed. Another way is to pour only 1-2 inches at a time, letting the previous pour cure close to completely. Cheers :>)
next time cut a circle the size of the soda bottle of parchment paper put that in it. and u should be able to . peel it off easily . try it as an experiment .
Good job. Most folks find the learning curve pretty steep with lots of mistakes.

I think your videos are much cooler than many other channels like matthias wandel

I think the cracks give it character.

Drill hole in the middle put some led in and you will have an amazing light
Very interesting. Indeed.
No..the cracking happened because the cactus wasn't stabilized first. A large possibility.

Great video, what's the purpose for casting the cactus skeleton? Do you have a project you will make from this or were going to make from the casting?

Pour the bottom 1/2 inch and let it setup, then add the cactus and pour the rest of it.
Hello is it possible to ship in France the cactus as we found, I also pay shipping costs.
Kind regards
All ways use the 5- PPPPP.
Proper planing prevents pour performance.
