  • Official Simple Little Life video of how to make a knife with common hand tools - Part 3.
Here is the final video in this 3 part series on making a knife by hand with common hand tools.
The only power tool used is a drill (because I do not want to drill holes in steel by hand) but everything else was done with by hand with common tools. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask and I'll do my best to answer them.

    About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

I'm looking forward to trying to make my own blade soon. One tip that was left out of the video. G10 is basically fiberglass sheet. If you are cutting or sanding on it gloves and proper breathing protection should be used. The gloves are not an absolute necessity, but the breathing protection should be a priority. Inhaling glass fibers is not a good thing. Gloves will just keep your hand from getting itchy from the glass fibers getting stuck in your skin. If carbon fiber is being used for scales breathing protection is an absolute must. The dust that carbon fiber creates is like thousands of tiny razor sharp harpoons. Once that dust makes it to your lungs it's not going to come out.

@@alexmaurice4274 You can make a firepit and get some charcoal and a hair dryer or some other way of blowing air into the flame, burn the coal til it glows hot red, put the knife in, shovel some of the coal on top of the knife and then blow air onto it to really stoke the coal

Hey Jeremy - I know that this series is about 3-1/2 years old now but just found it. I have been soaking up all that I can on knife making and there is a lot of really good, informative videos out there. Yours, in my opinion, is the best. I really appreciate you taking the time to bring us along for the ride and all the time you took to show newbies how to begin. All of your videos that I have seen thus far are just fantastic. Thanks and don't change a thing!!

I see a lot of people asking for where to buy the steel it's 01 tool steel. Choose 30-50mm in width:

I got some 01 4mm thick and 40mm width. I have a Dremel and it's not really fun removing large amounts of material lol. I bought a cheap hack saw that was doa. Recently told I should buy bimetal blades for it. Going to pick some up for my next knife.
