Fire Alarm at Granville Island Hotel, Vancouver BC, May 4, 2012 - 4:34 AM

- Man oh man ... was wakened out of a very deep sleep ... thought it was the phone ringing or something ... once I "came to", I realized it was the fire alarm ... didn't smell any smoke, but thought it best to vacate anyway. Turns out it was the night cleaners working in the kitchen & by accident they set the alarm off, LOL. Still love the place though & I would go back there in a second next time I'm in Vancouver. Best room for the view is #316 .. a corner room with 2 balconies & lots of windows.

Bells sound so much cooler than horns IMO. Especially in Code 3.
This gives me nostalgia, I remember watching this as a child..
Same

Code 3 alarms usually mean a test. Continuous means a fire on the floor or in the area.
Nope code 3 is everything in Canada. If a building has continuous alarms. Unless you have a special tone for tests it plays the sound
Sounds EXACTLY like my school's fire alarm.
Me too but mine is a Simplex at my old elementary school and those are Notifier fire alarms, and it sounds almost EXACTLY like the ones at my elementary school.
At my middle school they use code 3 simplex fire bells, btw I just had a fire drill today XD

Caramba! I hate fire alarms that set off so stinking early in the morning! I had that happened at 3 IN THE MORNING!! I lost three hours of sleep because I was traumatized by the noise! I’m paranoid whenever I hear school bells and/or high pitched beeping because of what happened recently!
When I watched this video for the first time, that was the first time I hearded bells doing code 3, that was about 6 years ago.
Hey I was a kid when you sended this comment
I saw Edwards bells on a cathedral in NY but no strobes.
I wish all alarms were bells: fire, tornado, air raid
Geoff Dickheiser agreed
I feel you. I know what you mean.
If your looking for a nice hotel in Vancouver stay here:) I live far away from here but its a great hotel I want to stay here some time again.
Hey guys, don't rag on Canada and Vancouver, even if most buildings don't have strobes throughout, many hotels offer a few rooms that do have them. We are a bit behind most parts of the US with retrofit requirements with older buildings, but we're getting better on fire safety all the time, especially in Vancouver.
My municipality, the CIty of North Vancouver, passed a bylaw in 2011 (with a deadline of 2016) requiring all pre-1992 residential buildings with more than 6 apartments or units to upgrade to having heat detectors in all suites and storage rooms, smoke detectors in the common halls, and good fire alarm audibility (in-suite buzzers or plug-in "fire link" buzzers), as well as getting their fire alarm monitored by an alarm company. However, no strobes are required, except in some cases where residents have a disability such as deafness or a hearing impairment.
Source: I'm an apprentice electrician.
Most hotels I have been to have strobes. The modern ones. In every room. I have been to a old one its bells only
trucksoner Why are USA people obsessed with strobes? If you're in bed, it's useless anyway. Almost noone is so deaf they can't hear alarms at all. It's an excessive requirement of disability discrimination policies, really.
It's uncommon to see any strobes at all in Europe or Australia, because they're pretty much useless.
Theres a fire truck coming to the fire alarm they have to check if its a real alarm or a false alarm
That's just a bell that's all it is.
My office has the same 3-code setup as this place.
ADT Bells are 46273 Gadp
Granville island hotel !
WTA 7375-64 Bells
Did some one pull it or was it a false alarm
I mean it was 4am. My best guess was something burned while breakfast was cooking.
Is not Christmas
Is done is at 2:33
Ah, Canada loves their bells
NJMoo3652 If there are only bells and no strobes, what will deaf people do? Strobes are meant to alert deaf people that the alarms are going off, and if there are no strobes, how will deaf people react? I suppose friends or other people could wake them up, but still... you get my point.
But in many cases there are only bells. I'm not quite sure if Canada has ADA or in this case CDA requirements otherwise the bells would be mounted on strobe plates
+NJMoo3652 Newer buildings do have strobes. The old buildings are grandfathered and are not required to retrofit the strobes. Similar to when Canada moved to the international "running man" exit signs, existing buildings do not have to be updated.
Heugh Jass Damn frogs. :-P
And I'm surprised theirs no bell or horn in the hotel rooms.
sounds like santa is coming
lmao!
😂😂😂😂
jingle bells jingle bells
Look under the Christmas tree 😂😂
HOHOHO!!!
Love the sound of bells in code 3
Jhhhhbhkokkiiikkkkkkjkjjjjjjmmmmmnnjjjjnmmmnnhjkkmmnjjjjjjjjnjjjjjlljkkmmnnnnnnnnfhnnnnnnnnnnnnmm
Same.
The fire alarm sounds like the one at the mall when there was a bomb threat in 2015 and everyone had to evacuate the mall it was scary at the time for me .
Which mall?
I prefer these bells over ear-raping new horns !
that's the point, they're supposed to be ear-raping horns and flashy strobes.
imaginox9 me too! the bells are actually louder though
SAME
Zentro the new ones sound like a dying bird being strangled
Lol
It all depends on the age of the building and the contractors who install and choose the fire alarm system. All Alarms installed after 95 must be programmed sound in code-3/temporal which is what this is. I think the panels that do voice evacuation may be given exceptions to this but regardless of horn/bell, chime, and so on they must sound in this same pattern
My school in Vancouver does not use that pattern it’s just constant there’s no stops in the pattern and it was put in in 2008
@@roycenimchuk8425 Check good code 3
I'm starting to think most of the time it's a false alarm because the same thing happened to me at 3:00 am and the funny thing is that it's always in middle of the night it's like WAKE UP THERE IS A FIRE YOUR GONNA DIE then it's ok I'd oh just kidding you can go back to bed now then you stay up for the next hour wondering what the neck just happened
Ikr one time that happened to a hotel on a trip in Scotland, the fire alarm went off at 12am and it was literally freezing outside and the next day we didn’t even get told what exactly happened 🤦♀️
Every time when we wake up daily the alarms go off because of the smoke from cooking breakfast bruh well sometimes in the hotel
As a little bit of a reminder, the exit signs lead you to the stairs
I was going to say the same thing
Have now stayed twice more since this video & got great sleeps! No more false alarms. I love this place, overlooking the water!
I have fire alarms Your videos are cool
What floor are you on?
"Where's the stairs" Turns camera around and skips the exit sign
The door that says alarm will sound doesnt sound alarm when he opens it also
I know I'm late with this reply the reason the alarm didn't sound was because it meant the fire alarm which was already activated
Because the alarm is already sounding!
Beautiful sound fire drill 😍 0:51
What fire drill?
Not a drill
Was that an Edwards Mb10-24?
Many buildings have triple ringing bells, including my apartment building. I think that it is probably better to have them in enclosed hallways than klaxons, as they aren't as loud
Those bells are loud though , what do you mean they are not as loud , my relatives agrees that it is really really loud
I like the sound of those bells. They are calming
especially the bell at 0:47
I know right?
But they are still loud though
I annoy my parents with this
Way more calming than current alarms.
Tech: Is my phone ringing?
*Tech tries to answer his phone.*
Tech: Hello?
*Tech then hangs up.*
Tech: Then what is that sound? I'd better investigate.
Tech: THE FIRE ALARMS?
I'm gonna contact Thunderbeam in the morning.
*Next morning, Tech contacts Thunderbeam*
Thunderbeam: Hello?
Tech: At around 5 in the morning, we had a fire alarm with those stupid MB-G12-24s
Thunderbeam: OK, I'll be there soon.
*15 minutes later, Thunderbeam arrives with a Simplex 4007ES voice evac panel.*
Tech: Thanks for installing better fire alarms.
Thunderbeam: You're welcome!
"I'm gonna go outside and see what's going on." Um, an evacuation alarm? :-P
Those alerts Are showing
I think these alarms are a Mircom Bl-10B and a Notifier/System Sensor KMS-10-24A
By just looking at the bells, I would say that they’re edwards mb10-24s.
Wow what an experience that must have been a bell. Those are really loud. Good way to call ya to the breakfast table lol lol lol
This reminds of ringing the trolley car bell that I work on!
Usually the stairs can be found by following the 'Exit' signs.
infinitecanadian Protip: Work out your exits ahead of time in a hotel, in case this happens and thar be smoke.
*****
That too. Never thought of that, but most of the hotels I have been in are pretty straightforward in terms of hallways.
NIGHT NIGHT FROM SHELBIE MUMMY AND DADDY XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX NIGHT NIGHT
I wish all fire alarms sounded like that
Mines was gentex
Also at school mines was a Genesis
Mines was a System Sensor SpectrAlert Classic.
The bells are in Code 3.
+xGapples - Minecraft It sounds nice, and musical.
xGapples - Minecraft A lot of people who like fire alarm videos are probably on the autism spectrum, so don't be surprised if people post obvious observations. :-)
Sherlock, is that you?
thats right just like electronic horns alarms they are in code 3 as they should be.
Cool I have code 3 fire alarms in my apartment building and when I hear them i remember the bomb threat at the mall in 2015 when me and my grandma and aunts had to evacuate the mall
Thats cool that the hotel uses bells
My preschools alarm was like this but louder, woke me from a good nap.
I have a Wheelock AS at school it is very loud
Nah, I'm still good with American like we have Strobe lights so people with hearing disability knows what's going on.
its not required in older buildings of canada. the codes are different and def people can actually feel the vibrations of the bells. i have a bell and when mounted on a surface can shake an area.
Canada does use horn strobes, remote strobes, speaker strobes and all those other devices the United States uses
Canada has mostly bells for fire alarms. Waking up to them would scare the crap out of me.
It’s way better than horns
@@the_mariocrafterI’ve never heard a horn in person before
I miss the old bell alarms, the fire department chose to torment us in gen alpha, the old fire alarms weren’t so bad, now we have ear piercing fire alarms, damn you gen millennial fire department
I notice that every fire alarm in Canada has the sound of a bell instead of an annoying horn.
not all fire alarms in canada, I'm canadian and I go to my grandmas house, there is a horn alarm there
@@skicai The Vast majority are bells but some of them have horns
@@skicai I know a school that has a fire alarm that sounds like a hockey buzzer
I live in Vancouver and I see lots of bells I agree there is not many strobes
And Alberta too. More horn strobes and speakers but not very many bells
Chase Reinhardt and in the states as well
Canadian fire code and US fire code are very different.
Acura TL GTLM I know at least in California their hase to be a fire alarm in every room of a home idk if it’s a low in Ontario now I think it is in my apartment each bedroom
Has a strobe mount
I've once been rudely awakened by a fire alarm at 4:07am at coylumbridge hotel, Scotland
It's a small world we live in, eh? I just found out you're related to mark Freeman. I'm a huge fan of them and I watch your videos too.
I love the bells
Me too
If people are wondering why he is half awake it is because it is 4:30 in the morning he probably did not use the map beause he was half assleep
***** yes middle of the night like I said it was 4:34 in the morning.
Those bells are not made for code 3. Also, No strobes in Canada?
TheJakeman789 there is strobes in Canada. Older buildings are not required to update the system but new buildings are required to have strobes
THE JAKEMAN789 YOUR RIGHT THERE ARE NO STROBES IN CANADA
@Jacob Cushman because the fire alarm was activateda
*activated
Was there on business ... am involved with a company Qu Biologics that may have found a cure for Crohn's Disease (do a UA-cam search for Tyler Wilson Crohn's) .. the good thing was that I flew home to London, ON today & got an hour or so sleep on the plane, LOL.

My hotel fire alarm experience was way worse than this 7 AM PCBFL Comfort Suites Got woken up by a mini horn in the room and in the hallways spectralert classics and a gamewell panel The alarm went off because somebody burnt toast and it triggered the smoke alarm and then the others went off
Ya I think I saw that video the simplex mini horns and simplex true alerts have a nice sound I like how some buildings mix them up
The bells sounds nice
The bells sounds like Christmas!!🎄🎁🎅🏻👼🏼

It sounds like a fire alarm bells
I got a fire alarm in my DC apartment last night it went off at 3AM it Was loud as sh|t my son screamed and we got out of the building and it there was smoke coming from the 5th floor and it was scary for my son
Poor guy :( I bet that even though the fire alarm went off and he had to evacuate the building, I bet by the time he got back he didn't really want to sleep as 4:50am is almost morning
Attention please! This is an emergency! Please leave the building immediately by the nearest available exit Eh?!
Hopefully they gave you some kind of discount for the inconvience. At least no one got hurt though which is what is most important.
i remember watching this back in 2015 man time goes by fast..
2013 for me! AND this video was uploaded 10 years ago TODAY.
Yeah in Canada they use bells in a lot of places still they have gone to horns and speakers in some places though. Sad part is that hotel doesn't have strobes for deaf people It looks fairly new. At least the fire alarm was programmed for code-3/temporal and it didn't give a continuous ringing.
Yeah Canada has been a fire alarm. Wanted level and Vancouver Canucks at Night Theme On GTA
My appartment uses "voice announcement " or beeping sounds for fire alarm
@@nayeontwicestreet132 what message does it play?
