Wow that woman was very rude, you wouldn't get away with doing that in the UK. I also find it ironic how she said "We don't give out information like that, it was a false alarm", Make your mind up love!
@Thomas Ramsay No she was very rude about it, interrogating him like he was some sort of criminal, completely unacceptable customer service. When your train gets delayed, you're given a reason why; when your doctor's appointment gets cancelled, you're given a reason why (usually). This is literally no different
It's kinda interesting that you can use speakers from a fire alarm company for many things to play audio and with the ease of installation because many fire alarm companies newest remote speakers have mounting plates that snap on to the device for remote speakers such as Edwards, Simplex, System Sensor, and Wheelock. They opted to use System Sensor SpectrAlert Advance SCPWK Outdoor Remote Speakers because the SpectrAlert Advance series is the first series of fire alarms made by System Sensor to use mounting plates that snap on to the device that makes installations the fastest which is why they chose these speakers for the audio transmitted information about the metro station
I think the other reason is System Sensor makes really good weatherproof Alarms, which an open aired train station needs. Nowadays, they've been renovating above-ground metro stations and the newly opened silver line stations, and have been using the EST Genesis Weatherproof devices. I think the reason the older silver line stations have the SS EST combo is that the Genesis weatherproof wouldn't release until just before construction finished.
This alarm is way too quiet IMO, which isn’t an issue when it is quiet here but it will be a bit of a problem when it gets busy and crowded, everyone might think the voice is coming from a telephone or something like that
22408aaron Because its none of your business. You aren't with the fire department so you have no reason to need to know why they were going off. "You were curious" isn't an excuse.
Dave Woah, I don't know what country you're from, but being a Virginia state taxpayer (hard earned money does get deducted from my paid check), "none of my business" is bullshit. Mikey here is in the same situation. You don't pay for the fire alarm system. You pay for the public transit. If the public transit goes down the trains go down as well as the employees. The fire alarm system is payed for and maintained by either the public transit service or by a fire alarm servicing company.
Dave I don't have time to explain to someone as arrogant as you that it is public information, whether it is on police records, or fire reports, etc. I highly doubt that you live in a state that is serviced by this transit system.
The fire alarms come with the building. Every public building needs to have a fire alarm system. You don't pay for the fire alarm system or for the maintenance of the system. What part of that do you not understand? If the public transit moves buildings they don't take the fire alarm system with them. They get the fire alarm system that is already in the building and is already serviced by a company. The only persons business is either the property owners, the fire department, and the servicing company. Unless you are one of those 3 then it is absolutely none of your business because it doesn't involve you.

When a fire alarm goes off at a metro station, all service to the station is bypassed for the safety of all passengers onboard the train. When it goes off on a train, it slows down to a stop and passengers use the tunnel to evacuate.

Copying this from my post on Facebook to ***** Haha. "WHO ARE YOU, SIR? We'll give out information eventually, sir." Uh. Okay? I was NOT pleased that people were just standing around when it was going off--it should be a very simple process. Fire alarm goes off? 1. Open all faregates (automatic at the newer stations, I presume?). 2. Station manager walks platform ensuring all platforms have been evacuated. 3. Station manager ensures customers do NOT re-enter station/platform until the 'all-clear' has been given by the appropriate authorities.
Standard procedure at all metropolitan hubs (airports, bus/train stations, etc.) is to verify the source of the emergency. If an emergency is verified as a fire emergency or chemical spill, then people will be ordered to evacuate. If it turns out to be a medical emergency (not recommended, but you can activate the fire alarm if someone is having a medical emergency and you have absolutely no other form of communication within your line-of-sight), people will be told to instead stay away from the area. Otherwise, people will be told that it was a false alarm and to continue on their way. Usually, there would be some sort of message indicating an uncomfirmed report of an emergency (can be in form of standby message on fire alarm system, or a PA calling for a specific person to go to a specific area; second one is commonly used in the UK with the person being Inspector Sands).
ironmatic 1 You can, but there's a slim chance that you could face a small fine based on the jurisdiction. I know somebody who had to do that because he didn't have his cell phone on hand when he found a janitor who had cracked his head open after taking a fall off of an auditorium stage.

I know that, just the way he's so bewildered and confused when the alarm and recorded message are saying "Emergency, yo. Get out!" What else can you do to help people like this when the alarms and a human have told him it's an emergency? Darwinian selection at work. Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean there isn't one. Escalators are safer in a fire, because you can see the possible fire at the bottom before you go down. In an elevator, you have to get there first.
