- Today's video is a bit different, I show how I go about my business, how I parcel the records, where I store albums for sale and the process of shipment via the post office!
Tomorrow's video will be a bit more of a technical one but I hope you enjoy today's video! It was hard to document me going into the post office as there were a few other people in there...I got some strange looks when I was filming outside!!

Thank you all for 800 subs...and so quickly! I have a lot of content planned for the next week so stick around to watch some more vinyl videos and prog related content!
The one thing you didn't do was take the album out of the LP sleeve and put them in separate. Keeping the album in the sleeve can damage by causing ring wear and also cause splits to the spine or the top or bottom. I have never used Discogs, but my friend does, and a lot of dealers and individual sellers separate the album from the sleeve. Nice to see you use cardboard inners.
This!
Yes I would do the same. Cruciform mailers are a bit more sturdy too. Also if a record jumps then it’s G+ at best.
Agreed
I'm older than your Dad but I've just discovered your Channel and its great to find a person of your age that is into the same music your Dad's and my generation were into.
Keep it up👏
I'll just call this right now that the views on this are going to be huge! Great idea.
Thank you!!
Looking at the photos of Emerson behind you, I felt sad because of the way he finished his life. A such fine musician. Great video by the way.
It was really cool seeing the behind the scenes aspect of a seller! I’m glad you’re growing and expanding so quickly! Not many people enjoy prog music like me so that is something I really like about your channel! It’s also nice to see another lady in the VC as well since it’s very male dominated! You always put out great content and enjoy what you have to show and say! Keep on being awesome!
Thank you so much!!
It's nice to see that you take care in all aspects of your business. I would have no trouble ordering from you. Hope you keep up the high standards. It's much appreciated.
Thank you that’s much appreciated!
Cool Posters on your wall! It looks like my room in the 80`s! Great!!! Greetings from Germany from Gunnar
I was hoping you were going to go into the post office with the camera. I wanted to see what a London post office looks like.☹️😊
Maybe I’ll show it one day! But my local post office is in a small store, there’s a bigger one but it’s farther away
Love your channel. Its been a fun ride.!
Thank you for making this video. I Found it to be very informative. I really love the part when you cut the tape with your teeth that was my favourite part⁶ keep up the good work. Cheers
I love the Discogs marketplace! I buy mostly CDs though.
i don’t know you and i accidentally found your channel a few days ago.....but you are extremely likeable 🙂
and your taste in music is superb 😌
I like your packing style. I get driven nuts by over packaging and over taping! You know, the packages you get that take 15 minutes of frustration to open! I'm sure you get them too.
Honestly!! spending lots of time just trying to open the cellotape covered album is a nightmare!
@@the_prog_nerd in support of those of us who "over-package" things (which i've certainly been accused of): i'd far rather have things be overpackaged than underpackaged. honestly, i've been shocked at how poorly parcelled some things i've received have been (an example being a framed (with glass) photograph in a box far too large for it with no newspaper or styropeanuts or bubblewrap to take up the empty space: it arrived smashed & it was only sheer luck that the photograph itself wasn't lacerated). over-packaging is nothing that a quick coupla slices with an exacto - or even a housekey wielded properly - can't deal with effectively.
the point made by a few folks of separating the album from its sleeve is a good one if yr packaging isn't snug enough. otherwise, i've found it helpful to simply make a sandwich outta several layers of oversized corrugated cardboard (at least 2 layers each side with the ribbing running different directions & at least a one-inch margin all around), pinching the edges flat & tightly cellotaping'em all around. i insist on a coupla layers because it pays to consider a "fragile" label an invitation to its handlers to abuse it. it's further protective to assume that parcels get heaved around a lot anyway & it's not only its freeflight across the room that can be a problem but the fall from freeflight of something heavier that'll happen to land on its corner in the middle of yr flat that happens for a moment to be balanced between 2 other boxes. always imagine the worst thing that can happen & guard against that. an example from the positive side of things: i ordered a very expensive, extremely limited pair of serigraphs that were sent to me in a triple-thickness (each side) corrugated cardboard sandwich such as i myself construct. it arrived having obviously been the victim of something falling on it, a huge gouge in the rear of the parcel that went through all 3 layers of cardboard. if it hadn't been for the final wrapping of heavy paper around the prints themselves, they would've been toast. instead, there was only the tiniest of dents to the rear of one of the prints (indiscernible from the front).
& re-using cardboard is really no problem: just glue or tape a new paper surface overtop the over-defaced one.
also do remember that cellotape is defined as a "pressure tape": its grip is fantastic when pressed firmly into place but it can very suddenly let go if it's been stretched too much around a corner.
I wish all sellers are like that, kudos to you Ma'am! 1:36
What a great video idea Niamh, nice one!! And yes there are a lot of annoying ‘MacBook things’ lol
Thank you! I got my Mac mainly for college/uni work. It really is a nightmare sometimes!
it was great i like the fact you put personal cards in also ,good luck, funny outside shots going to mail records hahaha.best of luck.i just bought a king crimson and geneses .living in the states calif it might be pretty expensive, not sure im also in an area surrounded by record stores-stay safe.
Im watching this video a year or so after it came out, and seeing you say 800 subscribers to seeing 14.9k congratulations!!! Hard work pays off
Great video and great channel! Congratulations on your ongoing success. I've always wanted to get into prog but didn't really know a good starting place, so thank you for your knowledge and dedication. I don't know how closely related to the prog genre this band lies, but I'm curious about your thoughts on My Bloody Valentine? They're one of my favorites. Take care!
Thank you! I've heard of them but not listened!
If you don't mind a suggestion. A lot of people prefer the record to be removed from it's sleeve when being shipped - helps to prevent seam splits. Will definitely check out your discogs listings. Take care.
Thanks for the advice!
Nice vid! Somebody once sent me an album(vinyl) in a brown paper bag. I know..
A record that’s marked VG+ should barely be played. If it has a skip in it or defects in the playback it should be graded “Fair” at best. VG+ is basically just 1 step below a sealed record that’s never been played or touched.
Morning.... What a great video idea, it was interesting and shows what care you take and provide to your buyers.... Thank you for giving a glimpse into the world of owning a Disccogs store. Can’t wait until your next one. Thank you again.
Thank you!
Nice to see the care you take, just in case we buy from you at some point. Did you know the Post Office will now collect as well as deliver post to you - parcels that is. Parcel force I'm told they're called.
Great video Niamh, i have never bought from discogs before, but this is an area i am keen to invest in. I will certainly look into MooBoo and would be more than happy to order from you.
Thank you!
I like that you are so picky in rating the records. It's better that the buyer is positively surprised than the opposite.
I have bought a few records from the UK and was always surprised that they always arrived perfectly with these thin cardboard boxes. In Germany we use thicker boxes and I still have to hope every time that the plates do not arrive damaged. It seems you have nice people at the post office there in the UK.
Ah, nice logo :).
All the Best
Thank you!
Yey Niamh, don’t know if you were aware but Royal Mail have started a customer collect service where your local postie will scan and collect the items you intend to send at your doorstep and take them with them. IIRC it’s around 70p. Certainly spares you the potential drudge-fest down the high street.
Ok I'm a ecommerce marketing director I can give you advice. Print multiple logos on one page. Save money and paper lol
Tip for the logo on the package. You can get labels in sheet+form that can be printed on in a regular printer.
Nice , interesting video , simple selling set up , keep it that way ! Did a similar thing many years ago at the dawn of the internet , did alright actually. Like the Genesis top 👍 I had a Trick of the tail t-shirt a while back , wore it to a few concerts . Crazy how fast your subs are coming in ! Doing well though 👍 Look forward to seeing your equipment set up .
Thank you !!
Great video, really good idea to sell stuff over Discogs
great job good tips
You know, I realised that talking about prog was commonly made by men, and that I was happy that a wonderful girl was talking about prog music.
I remember, I met a woman 10 years ago, and after a week, I played "Awaken" by Yes for her. I didn't say anything. She sat and just listened. At the end of the music, she was crying, was full of emotion (pardon my french, i'm french), I was happy, it was something I could share with
Very nice to see you outside walking too. It made me want to see more outside scenery. Maybe sometime in the future it will be easier to make outdoor videos too :)
Really interesting insight! I love that you put so much care and thought into this ☺️
Thank you so much!
I love prog and this video.
Well done. Enjoyed the day in the life... very interesting. Good luck with your selling. Peace love and rock and roll ✌️
Thank you!
Lovely video
Hi Niamh, I’d definitely advise buying some 2” clear parcel tape. Cheaper in 6 pack than single. If you are wrapping dozens a day a tape cutter/dispenser is well worth the £7- or so.
Not a big fan of those sleeves. I get the concern but I never had any issues with anything slipping out. Instead what I get with those adhesive sleeves is I take the album out and oh no! That stupid adhesive got stuck to the album cover and it just did a little bit of damage.
I just want to add this... I teach college and also work with high school students in creative fields. There is a truly wonderful combination of humility and confidence in your stream of consciousness presentations and stories. You are a natural storyteller, and since I discovered your channel I look forward to every installment. I wish I could teach my students what you seem to possess naturally.
Wow thank you!! That means a lot!!
@@the_prog_nerd you are welcome. What part of England are you from? Studying audio production? Best of luck to you!
@@gchristopherklug I’m from South West london! I’m going to be studying in brighton soon!
@@the_prog_nerd best of luck! I studied studio production and technology and worked for Todd Rundgren for a bit. You’ll do well!
hi Niamh
Thanks for your videos, although I have been collecting records since I was 10, I am now well into my sixties, it is refreshing to see someone so young who is so enthusiastic about rock music. Between you and your father's knowledge I have a list of bands to reference who I have either not heard of or not listened to. So thanks once again and keep it up.
One thing I can't find your record sales on Discogs,
Very insightful video concept! I only do a bit of selling on the side on various groups if I’m trying to get stuff for trade or funds for something else. If I ever decide to take up the discogs route I’ll be using your vid as a reference!
Thank you!
Very enjoyable video, a young entrepreneur - great to see!! I wish you luck with your business. Where do you get the records that you're selling? Are they from your personal collection or another source? I love your accent!!
Thank you! When we get a box set or deluxe edition of an album we already have, we would put the existing one up for sale! I’ve bought albums specifically for selling as well!
Where do you get the Cardboard, cardboard insert and sleeves from? What are some good companies?
i take inner from outer sleeve
also i use 2 or 3 thick stiffeners, one is not enough imo.
i cut thick stiffeners from double fluted cardboard which I get from recycling places
3:35 - Yellow Submarine socks. Cool! :-)
Thanks for sharing your tips! What do you call the plastic sleeve that you place the album in, and where do you get them? Thanks!
i got mine from amazon! i just typed in ‘vinyl protective sleeves’ they should come up
I enjoyed your video however even with the youtube video volume at maximum and my computer's volume at it's maximum, the audio is not loud enough for an old timer like me.
Very helpful video, dropped a sub! Could I ask what postal service you use when shipping from UK to USA shipping?
Royal Mail usually
@@the_prog_nerd noted, thanks for the reply!
Excellent video!
I recycle packaging but in the event someone has written on the packaging I merely cover it either with adhesive labels or glue A4 sheet over it.
That t-shirt looks great on you i love
Very cool.
Great video. I’m afraid I have to buy everything brand new...in the early days of CDs when they were expensive I would buy secondhand ones..and sometimes the odd one would smell of cigarettes!! Yuck!! Lol
Hi, I have over 1000+ records listed on eBay that I would like to crosspost to Discogs using eBay File exchange and Discogs bulk uploader. I am looking for instructions or a how to video. If you have any advice, please lmk. Thanks!
Great idea for a video
This is a good way to make money till you find a new job. Love the maiden poster
Thank you!!
Late to the game but...they sell spray paint specifically for covering markings on corrugated boxes.
Good morning Niamh! It is 8:30am central American time. It is cool to see your mailing process. Please keep it coming. So glad you are doing this. It is refreshing to see a young person who is so knowledgeable. AND YOUR A BASS PLAYER!? badass! I would realy like it if you were to listen to some of my recordings on my channel. Keep up the great work. I will be following along as you go.😁
what type of sleeves r they ?
This video needs a new title - how NOT to package vinyl.
To anyone starting out & have just discovered this video DO NOT follow this method.
Remove the vinyl from the jacket/cover & place in a donor inner outside the jacket/cover & place the empty original inner inside the jacket/cover.
Don't use these crap thin mailers, use thick card mailers like a Music Max for example with card stiffeners ensuring nothing moves around inside. And use something even more substantial if it's an overseas sale.
Interesting video. There are all kinds of collectors in the VC. Quite a few will flip albums or cull their collections from time to time. Personally, my records are members of my family. I could no more sell the shittiest album in my collection that I could sell my cat. Yours is a much more sensible way to collect - I just don't have it in me.
Ha, this made me laugh. I'm the same, I joined a friend at a record fair once to sell records that I thought I didn't need. It was a painful process to learn that selling my records is like selling my children. Never again!
you should always separate the vinyl with its inner sleeve from the sleeve itself before putting them in the plastic sleeve. You avoid seam splitting in transport this way ;-)
I've actually started doing this since this video! Someone else mentioned it
Hi Niamh, This was interesting to see. Something you didn't tell though was where you get your product from. Surely you must have a source for sellable records. Or are you selling your own collection?
Two main sources! 1. I have bought records to sell on and 2. When we get a new box set or deluxe edition of a certain album that we already own, we place the existing one up for sale!
Hi Niamh, I gave up on selling internet but may well start again, record fairs are more fun but maybe harder work (and not happening ATM). Great you've made the effort and I guess it's not for us to criticize but with post (post brexit) going up will this become more difficult, seemed odd a fairly attainable album going to the US unless they wanted specifically a UK press. Anyway business is business I shouldn't moan.
Good idea. I may do my own as I buy/sell on Dicsogs etc. One other item to note that. a lot of folks care about, if there's an inner sleeve it's good to take it out of the jacket so avoid it ripping/tearing. Cheers!!!
Hello and love your enthusiasm and taste in music. Did I hear correctly that a record with a "jump" is graded VG+?
Oh I meant VG or under!
@@the_prog_nerd Ahhh that makes a LOT more sense. I buy a lot of records from overseas and the UK sellers do not have the best reputation for grading records, perhaps you can help change that opinion :)
@@pbthal Hopefully! I am very critical
@@pbthal lol
@@pbthal Haha!
Sweet Kill ‘em All poster, btw
how do i find your shop
Wow 931 subscribers you were just at 500 2 days ago, 👍
$1 @ Thrift store.
Postal costs from the UK to Europe are becoming insane lately on ebay...They almost ask as much as US or Australian sellers ask...If discogs sellers follow this route they won't have many orders to process...
Neil Peart looks lonely on that light switch lol!
please tell me more about the black sabbath poster in the background. looks like it came in an album because of the fold lines.?
do you ship to israel?
Meticulous seller 10/10
I'm not buying anything that requires international shipping. Ill wait for this craziness in shipping costs to subside. Its almost worth it to buy a plane ticket and go buy stuff...and put it in a suitcase.
Haha! That’s what me and my dad would do 100%!
nice video, could you up the volume on your videos? Great channel just a little comment from the peanut gallery
I will try, thanks!
Can't find your store on Discogs for some reason 🤔
www.discogs.com/seller/MooBoo_Records/profile
Found you! I will keep you in mind when seeking vinyl from UK 👍🏻
What should I charge for international shipping on a 12" ? I can't see any options to even select the shipping price.
Where do you source the vinyl you sell?
she aint gonna reveal that info Richard, mate!
@@iansmith8263 No I suspect you are right sunshine.
That thin U.K. mailer is dreadful.
What is your business name derived from?
The names of my cats! Bobby and Molly. I call Molly moo and Bobby boo so I stuck them together and made a name!
Sorry but vg+ should not have a jump in the vinyl
Have you heard gracious, their second album is amazing, and the first 2 van der graaf generator albums, I think I seen you say your favourite King crimson album is RED, that is one savage album, I will try to find your discogs site, and finally I forgot have you heard ID where are we going, it's a late 70s prog album I think your dad will like it that's if he hasn't heard it already
I have! We both like VDGG
I think the volume needs to get up, can barely hear you. Or is it only me?
A few people have said this. I can try but I record all videos from my phone as I don’t have a camera
@@the_prog_nerd That shouldn’t matter, all you need is to increase your mic levels, I’m guessing!
Are you selling your own albums? If so please don't!!
Nope not my own!
How can I purchase some vinyl!!!
@@VictorHernandez-dd5ls here's the link: www.discogs.com/seller/MooBoo_Records/profile
You sold an album and it's going to the States. You have 2 problems. 1- as mentioned, you didn't ship the record outside the sleeve and 2-you used a crappy mailer with no filler cardboard. . If you're shipping overseas, you must use a quality mailer. I know you're new, but maybe you should watch some packing videos yourself before making a video.
sorry
I love your video and I might get hate for this but maybe don’t use your mouth the bite the tape during a pandemic 😷
I cut off the end I bite off and I usually don’t bite the tape haha
Nice! You answered a ton of questions in one fell swoop! Good luck with MooBoo. Think I'll go find your Insta👍😁
