Thank you for the video. I am a 71 year old female, and although it was a lot of work I managed to replace the evaporator FAN blade. Fingers crossed that it will work. I don't hear the sound of the damaged blade flopping around and it appears cold air is circulating in freezer. Very happy. Jeanie
Thank you so much for a detailed video. A lot more work than I was expecting. My 2008 GE Side-by-side fan kept making a buzzing noise and I had to pull the shroud cover daily to avoid fan hitting the cover. quite annoying. Moving everything out of the freezer is something I wanted to avoid. I guess I have no choice now.
I watched this because I know I have this task in my future. Thank you for the detailed video. Nothing shown here is hard, but I was surprised at how much needs to come apart to get at that fan motor. I'm sure I can do the job now.
Thank you for the video, helped me replace my evaporator fan motor with detailed steps, took me an hour and the part was $18 on Amazon! Saved me $380 service call that a local repair company was going to charge. Keep up the good work!
One of the best step by step video for an appliance repair!! I have thos exact model and started to hear the motor making loud noise. I know I will need to perform this talk in the near future. I will order the parts today! I probably will change the light bulbs when I am at it.
Thanks for a helpful video. Just a quick note that my freezer didn't have auger mount brackets, instead the auger slid into the right icebox shelf and one screw mounted it to the left icebox shelf. There was also a cold air pipe that attached to the top right of the evaporator fan cover to blow air directly into the refrigerator which seemed to be left uncovered / open in your video.
Our Evaporator Fan was making terrible noises with the temperature fluctuating in the fridge section. I removed the unit and found the grommet on the shaft side had partly disintegrated with bits falling into the fan shaft dome that rubbed on the shaft collar inside. I used a safety pin, a wire brush for car detailing and an X-acto knife to remove dozens of bits from inside the dome. That took 20 minutes. The rear grommet was OK, so I swapped front to rear grommets & reassembled everything. The fridge is now back to running without much perceptible noise of any kind and the temperature is stable again/
Hi i have a GE profile side by side and no evap fan operation. I checked with my multi meter and have the correct voltage/power out of the control board that feeds the evap motor but when i check for power at the plug for the evap motor inside the freezer i have 0 volts. I ohm'd the wires and they all check out. Any idea what my issue is? Could the resistors on the board be bad or somwthing im missing? Thank you
I have a top-freezer Profile. After replacing the fan, it keeps running all the time. It's constantly on and doesn't turn off at all. The freezer temperature has already dropped below -11°F and going. According to the manual, the freezer temperature should range between -6°F and 6°F. Also when I open the freezer door, the fan speed doesn't change (as I've heard it should when the freezer door opens.) I'd appreciate any tips. I've set the temperature to the recommended 0°F several times using the front display panel, but after several hours, it's still going down. The original fan didn't have a sensor, but the new one does, and I connected it with the metal clasp to the evaporator. My suspicion is faulty sensors or the board, but I'm not sure how to test for that. Do these fridges have a diagnostics mode that can be activated?
911-My freezer in side by side has lots of ice. I know why but, The fan started making noise. We hit the panel 3 times and sounded like ice fell. quite a bit. Probably onto the fan and the noise got much louder. Unplugged machine to let defrosting start. Hope my food will be ok. Is it okay to run the machine with a noisy fan? Or will it cause a problem especially since there is ice build up?
We have had same problem. You are probably experiencing ice buildup due to the evaporator fan motor failing. This causes the fridge/freezer coils to not operate properly to evaporate the moisture produced for refrigeration effect. You will need to replace the fan, just as in this video. We hit the link for the part, $137 is super pricey. We got ours same day locally for $70. If you order online now, there is a fan motor on ebay for $12 today! So, before the motor dies (ours did overnight before we could order one) get it cheap! Take care.

Great
How much do you charge for this job ?
It's a pain but works hehehe
Not a easy fix...
Yes. Yes it is.
I don't have a ice maker so it take me 5 minutes to remove. Lol
Thank you so much ! Very helpful video 😊
