  • When Mr Duffy went to a high end fashion boutique in Miami to buy a designer dress for his wife. He was asked to show his ID when using his credit card to purchase the expensive dress worth more than $3000. Mr Duffy was ok with this demand but did not realize he had dropped his drivers license while pulling out his Black American Express Card (Centurion) The store clerk stayed firm to the policy but then allowed a white woman customer to buy more expensive dresses without using her ID.

What is even more crazy is the level of bliss that many privileged individuals are operating in while being oblivious to the fact that there are others enduring these [actual] painful, dehumanizing imbroglios on a day-to-day basis.
It is deeply grieving to be exacted upon on behalf of another individual’s ’bias’ - its supposition is that having melanin, in and of itself, is a crime…😖!

Back when I sold cars, all of the other salespeople ran in the other direction when this 24 year old, African American man and his Asian girlfriend came to the dealership looking to buy a new Corvette. (You have to order them as there are none on the lot.) When I went to the manager to give the customer our last Corvette brochure (which was expensive) the manager said I was wasting everyone's time. I told the manager that the customer came in with his uncle, who also drove a Corvette, so it could happen. Anyway, he came in 4 times and I worked with him each time. Turns out he had a very good paying job and did order the vehicle. I had to split the commission with another salesman who had done nothing, because he was certified to sell these cars and since I was sort of new, I wasn't. Judge not. You may look stupid down the road.

@Luella Monroe There is a cardholder agreement with the merchant, a contract, signed by both parties, basically saying that if someone is using a credit card that has been signed, that they may not be denied service for simply failing to provide ID. Basically the credit card companies want to make it easy to use a credit card. Which is how you get into debt. By demanding “ID” for a transaction involving a signed credit/debit card, a merchant is violating the merchant agreement aka a legally-binding contract. A merchant can then be sued by either the credit card company or the cardholder for various torts requiring damages, but realistic worst-case scenario: Visa tells you to kick rocks. Forever.

Yes, that's true, but she was being racist to the guy. I saw him in another one earlier in which some old fart who ran a car wash refused to give him the keys to his own car because he didn't believe a guy who looked like HIM would own an Audi. He actually tried to hand him a set of keys to a Toyota and told him to drive off or else he'd call the cops. The guy would have been accessory to AUTO THEFT if he did. Unbelievable.

How does she “Live to Regret It?” So far she:
    • refuse to sell a house to a black man.
    • Called the cops on a black realtor. •
    • Threaten to call the cops on her black neighbor.
And 2 of the 3 black gentlemen seems to be this guy’s doppelgänger.
Probably the reason she is no longer a realtor and is now a sales associate.

When my cousin and I were 8 or so, we were in a department store similar to a modern day Wal-Mart. We were by the aquariums looking at fish. This salesperson/stock person, a white lady, accused us of stealing fish food and of not being “real” customers and kept following us. Now both of us grew up bougie as h*ll, we start crying. My cousin’s mom, also my cousin, came to that aisle to pick us up. But she didn’t immediately identify herself as family. She had on her General Manager’s badge (the General Manager for that region) and the employee immediately felt emboldened when she came over. The woman told the General Manager of her suspicions and we told our story through our tears. The GM says this is my son and my little cousin and I told them to come over here and pick out the fish and the food they wanted. My cousin didn’t excoriate her on the sales floor, but showed her dignity by taking her into the store manager’s office. Needless to say she was on a short leash and was made to come back and apologize to us. That was my first experience with racism. Now some 40 years later, the notes my cousin and I compare from just living our lives and dealing with systemic racism is maddening.

My wife and I used to go to a store at a mall in Plano TX, called A'GACI, (if I spelled it right). My wife and I walked to the women's shoe section, and we were blatantly ignored by the person working in that area, she acted like my wife, and I, were not there. The employee was white, and my wife and I are both black. My wife reported the matter to the store manager, and the manager apologized; however, my wife was so disgusted by how she was treated, that she vowed to never shop there again. Returning back to the Plano mall, regularly, we've walked passed A'GACI and never set foot in it again; ironically, the store ended up closing down permanently. People don't realize that when you treat people with disrespect, it comes back to you. Businesses cannot survive, if they don't treat every customer equally with respect and dignity. People "reap what they sow."

What's up with charging over $2 grand for a lousy dress, anyway? Certainly if you have the money, you can buy anything you want, of course, but think about it. You wear it once, it goes to the dry cleaners, within a year it becomes "OH, SOOOO last SEEEEEason....". (tsk tsk tsk) I was once about to buy a Stones album that was hand-painted colored vinyl and changed my mind when I found out it was $97.00! Yes, I had the money, I was doing well, and still am, but $100 for a different colored version of what I've practically memorized over the years? Ah, yeah - hard pass on this one.
