I like the fact that you are honest in every vlog you create, I really appreciate honest content creators as a 1980's child/teen who now struggles to keep up with the bombardment of influencers. I try to keep up as I have two young adult sons who make me look like I just came out the Ark!

I was homeschooled k-12. We went through a school called Christian Liberty Academy, which is actually a real school, with a real campus and everything. But they also offer an accredited Christian homeschool program for students nationwide. The positives about going that route is that you’re more likely to get accepted into major colleges and universities (if that’s something you are even interested in) since they are accredited by the National Association of Private Schools. You also get a real diploma when you graduate instead of a GED. They offer achievement testing, tailored curriculum, publisher variety, alternate courses, flexible schedules, grading, report cards, diplomas, etc. If I remember correctly, they offer a lot of different curriculum options, and they ship all the textbooks and materials to your house. My mom liked the Abeka curriculum the best so we used that. I don’t have anything else to compare my homeschooling experience to, but I liked it pretty good!

Another wonderful video!! I homeschooled my two children back in the 80's when it wasn't very popular. But we didn't care. We just knew we had to do something. I can not imagine having a child in public school's today. I understand though that many have to for a variety of reasons. And it's not for everyone, it's a huge commitment. I love that you show all that you do; the housework & cleaning, cooking, school prep, farm & much much more. You are doing a fabulous job and a service to your family that will carry them into their next phase of life. Thank you Steff for sharing your world. 💕

Yes, it's really hard and stressful (homeschooling) , occupied all the time, but results/rewards are worthy.

My daughter and I now home school my grandchildren, one being high functioning autistic. These kids have excelled since we left the institution of government schooling . Children don’t all fit in the same box . We are lucky we live on an island , we study nature, we grow food , we play like children should , yes it is hard work, but we teach them simple living . They are all excelling , not fluff and unnecessary subjects are school. Every strict here in Australia, they still follow the state curriculum so education targets at achieved. We don’t want our children to have woke ideology forced on them . We just do it our way, gently and positively. Best decision we have made . We want to raise beautiful humans . 💗💗🐨

Thank you for talking about how you enrolled your children in school, just to find out how stressful it is, too. I’m in that situation right now and I feel really alone in my thoughts. I tried homeschooling my oldest daughter for kindergarten, but it was a really hard year for me (my husband was deployed for most of it). So, this year, I caved and enrolled my daughter in school for first grade. I thought this would be the best choice for me, but it turns out it’s a different kind of stress. I miss homeschooling and I would honestly take the stress of homeschooling over the stress of traditional school! I have been trying to decide what to do - if I should keep her enrolled her not; but I think I’m going to take this school year to plan and research for next year, so I can homeschool successfully next year.

I also started my daughter with TGAB, and it was just a bit all over the place for me, I agree that it often felt like busy work. We have landed on Charlotte Mason style for now, and we are enjoying it so much. I loved your analogy about the peg rack and why memorizing facts is important, that’s going to stick with me! That is something we can improve on in our homeschool.

God truly IS goodness, truth and beauty, Amen! I fell in love with classical education (I was public schooled, knew no different) when my now 14 year old was in third grade. He (with two of my younger sons) is now currently in a fully classical Hillsdale school and in the rhetoric stage. It is so exciting to hear about the kids’ Socratic discussions in school, where they are not only being taught how to think critically and deeply, but also to communicate graciously and articulately. I think you do these things well and I praise the Lord for His gracious gifts to you!
Homeschooling is hard, I’m still in it with my youngest, but as we say around our house, “you choose your hard.” Often times the worthy choice is not an easy path. Blessings on you.

This!! I would love to be part of a school community IF it was truly Catholic and classical. But the options near me doesn’t seem much better than the public school. For the last 3 years, I traditionally homeschooled my oldest using curriculum that I put together such as Saxon Math, Story of the Bible, Beautiful Feet Science, Five in a Row and some Seton workbooks. This year I am trying Kolbe Academy online. So far, my oldest daughter loves having a class and is handling the workload quite well. She is on screens for about 3 hours which is a lot for an 8 year old. My second daughter seems indifferent but I think it’s because she is a first grader. I kind of wish I just enrolled my oldest, and homeschooled my second using the Kolbe curriculum. Anyway, I do like how it is even though I do miss teaching the subjects myself. Catholic classical education makes the most sense for my family even though it’s not how I was raised or educated.

We have similar stories. My oldest homeschooler is in 7th. We dabbled in PS after the pandemic but it didn’t last a year. We used TGATB and we have also don’t Classical conversations. Now we are doing Timbersoodle. It’s fun. Lots of STEM. We have also done online schooling. The state pays for the non religious curriculum in Oregon as a part of the public school system. We have done private homeschooling but that was OOP. I prefer the taxes we pay, pays for my kids curriculum. We haven’t started yet- awaiting curriculum.

Homeschool kid here, now 45. I don't think my mom had a very good understanding of classical education, though I still got a very good education. The good thing is, I was taught how to teach myself, so I am a lifelong learner. I have memorized vast passages of scripture, and so I have an excellent memory. I did not memorize a historical framework, so I would like to do that now. Where can I find such a thing?

Question - for your hair, no water or just specifically no shampoo? Hmm ... think we need a video just about this 😉 And, I will set my embarrassment aside and tell you that just like not all of us were taught to cook, manage finances, clean, some of us also were not taught about hair/skin/nail care. I don't know what I don't know, but I've an inkling that what and how often certain products are used on skin and in hair is having more of an effect then we think. Your research and personal experience would be wonderful.

My kids go to a good catholic private school that teaches liberal arts. Its going well. They do get funding from the state so they have to go by the state mandated vaccination schedule. I have not supplied them with my children's vaccination schedules. If they ask me for it I will be forced to quit my job and homeschool. I hope it doesn't come to that.

Hello, I have a sour dough starter issue, and I don't know where else to go.
I started my starter 8 days ago, and I'm following what I've been told here on Hopewell Heights. After the first feeding it had a hungry hooch, so I adjusted that, and for the first few days it smelled of yeast, and it would rise. But I haven't seen much activity for the past proberbly 5 days, except for the odd bubble or two. I even added rye to the wheat flower, but still nothing. I wonder if it's mad at me. Is it possible for the starter to be too thick, not enough water? Can someone point me into a direction? Thank you for reading. God bless
