@@Maggieloveslife The longest I’ve been completely without caffeine was five days in a row. It felt good. One feels sort of ”normal” mentally. Difficult to describe any better or more specifically than that. Drinking coffee does NOT make me anxious, yet being without coffee gave me a sensation of calmness.
Right now my plan is to continue drinking it, but, like I wrote above, definately decrease my intake.

What's interesting to me is that I did something very similar during my holidays and had much more dramatic symptoms than what you described (e.g. nausea, insomnia). My why is to see what happens. It's been more than 6 weeks now and the effect is kinda opposite of your experience. It's harder to keep focus, I am sleepy in the evenings so no energy for hobbies, more random headaches, emotionally I feel more sad in general. I am considering trying black tea instead of coffee. I've already tried green tea to no noticeable effect.

I bought some milk kefir grains and make my own kefir every day and then mix it with some red beet powder so that it looks like some strawberry milkshake :) every now and then I make some coffee with a French coffee press but I only use 1 tablespoon of coffee powder. I drink it if I'm suddenly feeling tired or something and can use a boost. Will never drink it after say 2:30 pm. Good on you quit drinking so many cups!

I just found your channel this morning (Sun. Feb. 2 in the US) and because you mentioned growing your channel from 1,000 subs just a few weeks ago, I noticed that you were at 18,500 subs today. Then while I watched 4 videos it went to 19,300 subs over the course of.... an hour? I think good things are happening to you, and that you can be so authentic and make such progress is very inspiring. The fakeness of most UA-cam channels is discouraging, and you're a tonic.

I gave up cocaine around 25, gave up pot around 35, gave up alcohol around 45, gave up cigarettes 6 months ago and looking to slow down caffeine now. There is one thing i don’t know how to give up…my addiction to stress and anxiety! As you see, mine is a life of addiction. I am hoping to better my life as well ! I will try to learn a little from you.

What helps me is those guided calming meditations on UA-cam. Just have to find a voice that you find soothing and the information matches your situation. There is one I did the other night that really really helped and lasted at least an hour afterwards. I find most don't stick with me for long afterwards. It's by Caren Hope and it's called "15-minute guided meditation to reset your nervous system" (just had to find it in a separate tab).

Thanks for this video Maggie! I have been needing a reason (no, I think I've been needing the encouragement) to quit caffeine and alcohol. I never had this problem until I moved to Germany 7 years ago where the wine is cheaper than Cola and my husband bought a very very good Espresso machine. When I am back in Asia where the duties on alcohol are so high that I can't afford to pay 10x the price for a bottle of red, I never EVER feel any urge to have a drink! That's how I know my "addiction" is not substance related but environmental and psychological. I will now go watch your video on kicking alcohol, and I hope today is my first day of being a teetotaller.

I've quit a few times over the years, and each time has been harder. Most recently, in 2023, it took me many months of daily suffering before I hit rock bottom with caffeine. I was so exhausted that when I bought tickets to a two-day concert festival, I had to stay home and sleep through everything except for the one act each night that I really wanted to see, then leave early and go straight back to bed. And the final straw was when, on a day off that I had been really looking forward to, I realized that I was stuck in a pattern of finding somewhere to buy coffee and then finding somewhere to use the restroom urgently. I think my body finally had enough.
And it had been many months since I could even remember having a snippet of a memory of a dream. I was completely worn down by my compulsion. My relationships suffered, my mental health was worse than ever, and I worry about what damage I did to my body by drinking 500 mg+ a day.
I very briefly relapsed a week ago by drinking a few decafs over the week (which still have caffeine), culminating in making myself a cup of regular strength instant coffee using the communal coffee supplies at work. I got about halfway through the cup before I realized that I didn't enjoy the feeling in the slightest, and that I was in danger of throwing away my precious time, energy, and health to another bout of caffeine addiction.
I'm currently drinking some fully caffeine-free coffee substitutes (Dandy Blend, Caro, and Leroux), and I'm finding them tasty enough to satisfy my craving for the coffee flavor.

I’m 56 and have been also on a health journey. When you find that keto is harming you, try a whole food plant-based (WFPB) lifestyle (no animal products nor refined oils nor refined sugar). WFPB (especially with a lot of raw cruciferous veggies) reverse diseases (rather than just masking symptoms).

I also tried to quit coffee back in 2018, also cold turkey. I tried to replace it with hot choco (made sure there was no caffeine in it) and I also couldn't understand why the headaches were happening until I researched about it. I took naps when needed but on the 3rd or 4th day, I couldn't help it anymore. The reliance is real but I guess I now listen to my body when I know that despite the coffee cups I'm having I still can't focus, that's the time to drink more water (to flush as many caffeine as possible in my system) and call it a day for my coffee and just have water for the rest of the day.
It's still really a valueable knowledge to know that caffeine can affect our bones.

I tried to quit coffee completely this month, but I had too bad withdrawal symptoms and I gave up after two days. Now I'm settled at one cup of coffee/day, I drink it in the morning. I will have a hot bamboo drink (no caffeine alternative for coffee) with oat milk if I feel like having a cup during the day. I also avoid cola etc. other drinks with caffeine. I realized that it disturbs the iron and calcium absorption and at my/our age it's not good for hormonal balance. But there's actually some benefits in drinking coffee according to How not to die book it protects against Parkinson's disease and gives years to life, my grandmother lived until 92 and she was a coffee drinker. I'm sure you have heard this "excuse" but it's part of my digestive system. But cutting it down to 1 cup has definitely been a good thing. I've slept better and I have the bamboo drink if I feel like it. About menopausal symptoms: I don't have any symptoms anymore. I have been plant based for a year and it seems to have stopped or turned backwards the biological clock. I used to have annoying hot flashes and heart pains - none anymore! And it happened within weeks after going plant based. I literally feel younger. There's been a long list of other health benefits too. I don't know your standpoint on this matter so I won't go trough the whole list. But I thought it was worth mentioning! Anyway I just discovered your channel and I'm enjoying it very much. From an addiction point of view caffeine is probably worse than alcohol since I was able to quit drinking with no problem 2018.
I agree with you that anything that you're dependent on is kind of a limitation in life not being able to function before a cup of coffee for example. It's good to realize these things and they are partly just habits and partly physical addiction. I'm impressed that you went through the whole withdrawal process because I couldn't.
I am conflicted because of the health benefits and social aspect of it - being vegan drinking coffee seems like the last thing that I have in common with my non vegan non sober friends. I feel like I need at least one thing in common with them not to be totally alone with life habits regarding food and drink. I'm already experiencing the ghosting and cold shoulder so much. I'm slipping so much into the unrelatable category with them. Although changes have been great for my health otherwise. I need to get new like minded friends but it's just challenging under the circumstances: not going to bars (the way I used to make friends) & people have usually already established their friendships at this point in life and not interested in making new friends. But hopefully I will get new opportunities before becoming a total hermit.

Hi Maggie - I too have given up caffeine. I found it a lot easier to substitute hot decaf herbal teas for the caffeinated kinds and found the ritual and sensation of a hot steaming cup of something ( even plain hot water ) helped tremendously. It seems I didn't go through the trauma you seemed to ( except the headaches! ). Love your content!! Xo from Canada ❤️

Great video - thanks for sharing. I dropped down from an 8 cup of tea habit to just 2 cups in the morning now about 4 years ago and it was a game changer for my sleep patterns, so I would highly recommend that to anyone who is thinking about cutting the caffeine. However I do still really notice how jittery I feel after my second cup of tea at 11am so you've inspired me to cut out all caffeine now! (In the UK we have lots of varieties of decaffeinated teas so it's not *too* bad to swap to the decaf version of our normal brand!) Looking forward to your next video!

I've mostly given up tea because it was affecting my sleep. Since stopping, I’ve been sleeping much better, even though I was only having two or three cups in the morning. I still enjoy tea with ginger, so I’ve switched to the occasional decaf, but I might eventually just stick to hot water with ginger. I do still have tea now and then, but not every day - that’s the plan, at least.
I also felt pretty rough for a few days after quitting - agitated, irritable, headaches, etc. After watching your video, I’m considering giving it up completely at some point. Thanks for sharing!

I had a feeling that coffee had something to do with my osteoarthritis but when I would ask questions about it I would always hear it's good for you. I am way over weight and have lost teeth because of coffee because of the cream and sugar I had in it to drink it. That feeling that I am addicted to something is like a rut in my brain. I am addicted to so many things. Procrastination, coffee shops, desserts, caffeine. I was cutting this all , and then came back, on and off all the time. I almost agreed that I am just weak and cant give up my addictions. But there is a very small hope I can do it. I gave up coffee now, and 1 week ago I had a walk in a different city and allowed myself to have one. I said it was so good that whenever I am back to this city I will have it. And now my brain tried to find reasons to go to that city, its 50 min away by train! I hate that feeling. Allowing even one cup of coffee makes my brain go mad about it. Its a true drug. Same with sugar. The worst thing is that me and my husband were going to coffee shops to have our dates, eating desserts and coffee together. And after 5 years of being like that its hard to find alternative, but still possible. We can go to nature, pick our own herbal tea and have fruits instead of desserts. Its just painful.

So for the new year, I committed to stop drinking with my partner. He had a problem with it, I did not, but I wanted to do it with him. I wasn’t a super regular alcohol drinker, but I’m finding myself drinking more coffee now than I did before as a replacement… Ugh.
I don’t think Im addicted to caffeine, but I do recognize I depend on it to wake up in the morning.
I need to kick drinking it through the day though before it becomes a problem :( I think I’m going to stop being lazy and not make any coffee tomorrow and try a walk to jumpstart my day and see if I can still “wake up” without my caffeine.
Thank you for the inspiration, I’ve been enjoying your videos!

Larry Burkett's book on "Giving and Tithing" drew me closer to God and helped my spirituality. 2020 was a year I lived it. I cashed in my life savings and gave it all away. My total giving amounted to 40,000 dollars. Everyone thought I was delusional. Today, I receive 85,000 dollars every two months. I have a property in Calabasas, CA, and travel a lot. God has promoted me more than once and opened doors for me to live beyond my dreams. God kept to his promises to and for me

I quit caffeine too at the beginning of the year. For almost two weeks I was a raging monster!! The dopamine deficit was insane… I still don’t think I’m back to normal yet or out of the water. I had a serious addiction to it, and a lot of other substances in the pas. Caffeine is a challenging one!! I had to relapse on some tea one day because I had to drive 7 hrs and my friends dog kept me up half the night before. So for safety, it got me through. But I’m still committed. Absolutely NO COFFEE ever again!! If I need some caffeine tea for a real reason, I won’t be so hard on myself.

I quit caffeinated coffee about a year ago. The first few weeks were rough. So tired, brain fog, migraine headaches. That actually helped me push through because I knew that if my body is having this reaction then I truly needed to rid myself of this toxin. I switched over to decaf (so I still get my coffee but without the caffeine. I also quit sodas (regular and diet) at the same time. Truth be told, I am ok and living my life (I feel) like I did before. Some people say that once they got over the caffeine hump that they gained a certain clarity and energy from within. I have yet to feel those but I do feel healthier. I feel like I have gained a little weight...ok maybe 15 pounds or so) since then. Maybe the caffeine was burning more calories before... I don't know. I'll continue this journey. I don't need caffeine.

At it's height I use to buy £200 - 300 worth of chocolate a month. These days I have one cup of coffee in the morning and two mugs of tea later. I use a light, low caffeine tea, the trouble is you never really now how much caffeine there is. That said, I have several times stayed off caffeine for months, even years, I just replaced the tea with hot water, maybe with camomile, or just a slice of lemon. It was easy, and I never had anything like headaches or typical withdrawal symptoms.
For years of my life I had these food intolerances and health issue related to the gut. I was put on diets, with lists of foods to eat and not to eat. I was on them for years. Now I can eat a bit of most types of foods and I rather not focus too much about it. What I discovered over the years; no food group is sort of innocent or neutral; neither vegetarian, grains, fruits or vegetables, dairy or meat. They all have an effect on us and you can use them to control certain reactions in the body. When we are healthy and in reasonable balance we handle a varied diet fine. It is when the body is weak, when we are stressed or overworked we get sensitive, some of us probably are more sensitive or less robust than others.
I don`t think coffee or tea in themselves are that bad, just don`t overdo it. My father and my brother drink several cups of coffee a day, and they both say if they do not get coffee before noon, they have a headache not too long after, so caffeine withdrawal is real. Some studies have indicated four cups of coffee a day is fine, with out putting an upper limit, I think some in the study had up to 6 cups. These were regular cups, not the largest mugs.

Im on the edge. Been addicted to stimulants for 50 years - combined with self-hate its part of my work process. First nicotine (stopped 32 years ago) then tea. I already limit myself to three cups of tea in the morning and thereafter I drink decaffeinated and sometimes herbals. Im in my 70s and have mild ckd (and suspect tea is one cause). Water is healthier.

I used to be a coffee addict big time. I drank it starting the day, all the way throughout the day and even in the evening, night, or even midnight... 24/7 I'd say.. I was also one of those people who used to say, I can't function unless I had my morning coffee.. Well.. I never really drink it because of the effects.. Or the benefits of it... I drank it because I loved the taste of it. I always drank it sweet, with milk.. Then after I became vegan, with all sorts of plant based milks.. Preferably oat. At one point, I did start to feel having really weird heartbeats... Weird heart rhythm... That scared me.. Also my sleeps were terrible... After a break up, last year in the beginning of July, I decided to change my life... I went cold turkey on smoking cigarettes.. I also stopped smoking weed.. Because I stopped smoking, I had to stop having my morning coffees. Now. I'm a non smoker. But I do drink coffee. Maybe once or twice a week. And only one in the morning. And only black coffee, with no sugar, no nothing. And I'd say, 98% of the times I drink decaf. And this time, I drink it because of the benefits, which are : improved memory, cognition and mood, a reduced risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, multiple cancers, and other chronic diseases and increased overall longevity. I don't drink it because of the taste anymore, although I kinda do like the black bitter taste of coffee. And I only drink coffee with caffeine, if I feel like having some specialty coffees. I really love the taste of Frei Cafe's tobacco, and raspberry coffee... (These are highly recommended with any kinds of sweeteners and milks!) But I don't go crazy for drinking coffee in general like I used to. Even if people offer me coffee, I kindly say no thank you. I do have a new way of waking myself up though.. And that's the every day cold shower after waking up, for 90 seconds. (Do a little research about the benefits, you'll be surprised!) YOU can give up on your addictions like I did, or everybody did... It is easier than you think. I do like the videos of the missus, but I gotta say she was a bit theatrical with the messy hair and no make up. 😁🫶🏼 You can feel like crap and still brush your hair and wash your face. 👀 For some people won't work a slow, step by step, day by day quitting. I do highly recommend to be brave and go cold turkey. You'll thank me later. Good job, Ms. Maggie! Great videos! Keep em coming! Sending you love all the way from Budapest! You got a new subscriber! 🕉️🙏🏼

The hardest addiction is to the market economy, to one of its most important allies (psychology) & there is the root of all the other programming.

Thank you for the video, I find it to be very inspiring as someone considering giving up coffee and soda. I am someone that can drink a couple pots of coffee a day and going to sleep after coffee has never been an issue. I am 57 and just feel drained all the time... the coffee only gives me a temp pickup. A couple of decades ago, I tried drinking decaf and found that the momentarily energy boost I got from morning coffee, seemed to be as much psychological as physical. Anyhow... strongly considering giving it up for my physical health, the health of my pocketbook and feel it plays a large role in my overall lack of energy.

You can do it! Maybe cut down and don't do cold turkey like I did - much kinder to the body.
