This is my first flight ever with my new rc airplane the Horizon Hobby E-flite Apprentice STS. This trainer plane is awesome. It's not as easy as it looks but the plane has the latest technology SAFE and offers Beginner, Intermediate and advanced mode. Flying with the floats is not recommended for beginners. I'm a beginner pilot and thought this plane worked great and I highly recommend picking up one of these planes.

I've been flying a long time now . Perfect choice of plane. You did well but a couple things will help. Lose the floats , wheels are far easier but man you got a great place for them. You were on the verge of a tip stall about the whole flight. She needs more throttle especially when turning. If you're in the throttle and she is gaining altitude that you don't want use your elevator to counteract that ( push up on the right Stick). Altitude is your friend low flight is the enemy. Fly 3 mistakes high. Practice by flying circuits. Large lazy circles. Gradually fly up then maintain a circuit without gaining or losing altitude. When ready to land simply lower the throttle and let it come down in a slow lazy circuit as you get to the water begin to land just a little bit of throttle to flare up so the nose rises and off the throttle all together. Hope this helps great first flight, keep flying!

good advice.. you pretty much explained my flight. I need to lose the floats till i'm ready. I haven't even tried it with the wheels yet.. but i will soon Thanks for the advice

Stay in beginner mode until you master the basics, then intermediate mode finally to experience mode, each step is a must. Re-read the Instruction manual that came with your plane. Important to know your orientation at all times, remember "YOU" are in the pilot seat and have to think like one. If you don't have a Real Flight computer simulator, get one. Can never go wrong there. It will sharpen your mind/body reflexes (muscle memory). Just like driving a car or riding a bike, you know automatically what to do. Same rules apply here, the more you practice the better you'll become. And more comfortable, confident plus relaxed in that mind set. You did quite well for a beginner. If there's a RC flying club nearby, join them because they are always looking for new members. If not contact your local hobby store, they can also provide assistance. Last and not lest "Bring your aircraft home in one piece" Good luck!

Great job! You never forget that firdt successful flight. Feels so good to fly and even better when you land and breathe again. I've been flying 20 years now. Few tips but you may know by now. That's a little windy for a first flight. That will make it harder to learn your plane. Secondly, when you take off, go into the wind and full throttle. Don't ease up slow on the throttle.

I found the transmitter that the RTF comes with was ok. I ended up getting the Dx6e and what a difference. (I also ended up getting the Sport Cub S2 and the UMX Turbo Timber).. Being able to adjust the expo and dual rates makes it handle a million times better.
I crashed mine ontop of a warehouse (luckily I know someone with a bucket truck) and the tail end of the fuselage broke, the prop broke, and the motor cowling chipped. I spent 20 bux on replacement parts, a little bit of glue and she's good. Overall extremely durable plane in my opinion.
I crashed because of the the transmitter it came it came with, it lost signal, rolled over and went nose down in safe... just a warning about that.
Awesome Maiden man, how you were breathing was exactly how i was my first flight lmao, super nerve racking especially with a close call like that lol!.

Nice job, first takeoff and first landing. I know how nervous you were. I was nervous for you as well. I agree with another comment that it was probably a little too windy for your first flight. I could see the ripples on the water. I'm assuming that was from the wind. I can also see you fighting the wind when you're flying into it. But you did it and that is great! I think water might be a little more advanced also. I think the floats get sucked down by the water making it more difficult to take off and possibly land. Just make sure you're giving it some elevator to keep that nose up on takeoff and flare on landing. Flying in beginner mode "0", it should automatically give you some up elevator when you give it throttle. I was a little surprised at that near crash into the water. I would have thought that SAFE beginner mode would have prevented that, as well as intermediate at that low altitude. It looked as if you maybe had it in expert mode but that was a good save just in the nick of time. By the way, I don't know if you did this off camera but part of the pre-flight should always be a transmitter distance/signal test. Your aircraft manual will show you the procedure on that.

    I know what you felt...
Did the same first flight with this great plane .fly by manual... reading while flying...maybe to close to a international airport scared me because the plane got higher and higher.
We lost sight of this plane due to wrong trim i guess. faster created more lift and hight..
Not knowing where the plane went i used recovery mode..it sure had to be right above us but unable to see it that high.
No trottle and wait what happend at one moment it came in sight flying circels and getting lower and lower.
When close and good in sight i did some nice flying and a great runway landing....
You need a lot of space around you to fly safe ...its fast so it will be out of sight quicly.
And i think it can reach a extreme hight too.
A lot of fun with this plane and a great or maybe the best biginners plane..

of shooting and what that in itself entails, so, I hope you are successful. I hope you have a recovery system, ie, a boat, rc boat..

It was the most nerve racking experienced I've ever had in the rc world lol. Stalled it, came back down and buzzed out heads, (all 5 of us hit the deck lmao). @geraldscott4302 Рік тому

Back a few decades ago I tried to get into flying R/C airplanes. At the time I was a licensed private pilot. I actually found flying a real Cessna 172 to be easier than flying an R/C plane. While flying a real aircraft, you are always facing forward. The controls are always going to react the same. But with R/C, if the plane is flying away from you, the controls will work one way, and if it is flying towards you, they will be opposite to that. I was constantly getting disoriented. I wound up crashing and destroying several planes, and gave up. I eventually lost my private pilots license due to medical reasons, and recently decided to give R/C flying another try, due to recent advances in technology. I chose the Apprentice STS as my first plane. But, I equipped mine with a GPS module. That make it pretty much foolproof. You can set up a GPS "fence" so it can only fly so far, and it will turn around. If you become disoriented, you can put it into a holding pattern, where it will just fly in circles by itself. And, if you choose to, you can have the plane actually land itself at the same place it took off from, or at least very close to it. You can use those features for as long as you want as you get more experience. And they can still be used in an emergency. If it looks like maybe you messed up, you can turn control of the plane over to the GPS at any time. I consider the GPS module an absolute "must" for a beginner. Destroying a $500 plane can make you decide to give up real fast.

Always take off into the wind.

Had this and returned it after the first flight. Can barely handle the wind and barely moves even when full throttle is engaged. Get the Habu jet 70 mm. Way better

I have the Habu jet also. The plane i fly the most is the Hobbyzone Aeroscout 2 1.1 I still take the Apprentice out for some fly time. They all fly different

      Can barely handle the wind?
I think it's the pilot's lack of skills.
This plane can indeed take some wind.

Bub, why are you taking off from the water on your first flight? LOL! Ya gots to start from the ground. You just overloaded your task with 2 factors, 1 it's a boat, 2 it an airplane. Its traditional for a pilot to take off from the soil and not the water.🤣

i'm loving flying. I joined several local clubs. I bought several planes. my favorite is the UMX Ultrix and hopefully picking up an A10 jet soon. I still rely heavily on safe mode, but i'm working on that

@@OvalRC I don't own an A10 but everyone I know loves it. You might do just fine with it. The Habu is supposedly a great first EDF. But my first EDF was the Viper 70mm. I went through a few fuselages and wings. But I eventually figured it out and moved up to the 90mm. Crazy that the 90mm is MUCH easier to fly. Glad to hear you're enjoying it!
