  • Here is an example of a failed downstream landing with a go around and successful upstream landing. I didn't want to make a lot of noise in the canyon with another attempt. The downstream landing has the advantage of the go around but is a much steeper approach. You can see me trying to bleed of speed on the approach with S turns. I almost touched down but elected not to use hard braking in the interest of safety. I needed to enter the trench lower on the approach and will try next year.

Great decision making to go around. Glad you made it in the opposite direction.

A rejected landing is not a failed landing. You’re too hard on yourself! Great footage and nice flying.

Very true Sarah. The approach downstream is blind until the last 1/2 mile. I needed to drop into that trench and be lower and slower. Next time I will be. That is what makes these Idaho strips so exciting. A new approach gives a new perspective and a new technical challenge. Always learning.

Nice video. I was getting a little air sick watching your video 😂. Can I ask where this is? I tried to look it up and there appears to be a few Marble Creeks. Is this in Idaho? Take care and be safe.

This is Marble Creek Idaho. It’s a relatively new strip that opened in 2020 by the USFS. I think it is one of the tougher Idaho strips. It’s only 1100 feet long at 4800 foot elevation. It has an obstacle for the downstream takeoff which. Is the only real way to depart. ID8 on the sectional. Beautiful spot.
