Im currently doing this in a 79 trans am. I took the red leather seats and center console from a 2013. I just build a rame under to use the 5th gen mounting points. My hurst shifter still works perfect but looks like a short throw and i was able to find a black 4 speed ball with red inset lettering. Front seats were an easy swap the back seat im still in the process of the seat back bracket had to be cut in the center to get around the tunnel but i have to figure out hom im going to do the cushion i think im going to split it in the center cut the foam out so it can be tucked and glues to fit in the factory seat cushion slots then all i have to do is figure out the wiring for the powered seats. Im a little over a month in to the process. All this to say to things 1. Dont worry about others critiques buold it how you want it to be.. oddly enough people are incredibly particular with 2nd gen trans ams and if youre not a purist running it bone stock youll catch shit. Im running verdaro green from a 68 gto with matte black spoiler, scoop, fender vents, and wheel spoilers with black window trim and door handles it looks 1 million times better than a factory colored trans am but i catch shit every time i take it out saying it should be black like a smokey and the bandit trans am or a factory color. I get ate up its lowered 2 inches in the front and 1 inch in the rear to get rid of the factory rear squat look. I catch shit that i run a fuel injected 400 pontiac instead of the factory quadrajet because its "far superior" somehow. I catch shit that the engine isnt pontiac blue because i thought the gold would look better. You cant make everyone happy so ignore anyones opinions other than yours. 2nd. If youre going to do it do it right and take time to do it. I spent 2 weeks getting the frameing brackets perfect for the center console... cut them out and rewelded them in multiple times to get them perfect. Relying on thin plastic to hold your center console in place is lazy.. you could make you some tabs and if you cant weld you could sheet metal screw them in and then used the consoles factory mounting points . If it were me i would have just bought the 5th gen ebrake.. its cheap and you could have avoided cutting the center console to make it fit. I dont know how many cars ive built its alot i build for myself for my collection and i try to build and sell one a year(if i can get it done that quick) to fund my addiction to cars and i learned really youn that the modifications like your center console are the first thing that draws your hopeful buyers eye and if its half assed they will assume the rest of the car is the same. You may not want to sell that car right now but take it from me ive sold almost every car ive dreamed of building. All in all man cool swap keep it up just take your time i love seein people getting into building and modifying cars for a while i thought it was going to die off but your generation is bringing it back strong
That looks awesome! Been thinking about doing this myself and wondering if it was even possible. I have a 96 which has the worst console on the planet(IMO)😅. I just ordered a new console lid from Hawks, so we'll see how long that lasts. I look forward to following your progress!
Good job, I’ve always kind of disliked our center consoles. I may have to try this in the future. I may have missed it but where did you source the console?
Yea fuck ss Jake I asked him a question for my build and bro acts to Hollywood. So does fyp_manalo. I’m doin a 5th gen interior swap on my 4th gen but can’t figure out how to get the 5th gen steering wheel to be compatible with the 4th gen? Do I have to make it custom or is there a piece?
I don't know. As an original owner of a 1999 SS I feel that swapping out a console that is specifically made for the car with an ill-fitting "It's not perfect but I'm happy with it" console is not the best way to go IMHO. That modern look you're looking for went out the window when you chopped, cut and trimmed that fifth gen console into a wobbling mess. Sorry to be so blunt, but as long as you like it, then that's all that really matters.✌
Saw your car on Facebook today and bam your UA-cam page pops up on my feed. Nice
Just what i needed. i have a 2015 camaro i bought rolled over and swapping out everything to my 97 camaro!
Any vids?
Thank God your back faster than last time man haha love the videos

Can you show us how you did your door panels man those look sick !!!
Great work man. Looks legit. Love seeing this car evolve!
Love the videos. Can't wait to see what's next.
Looks good as hell man!
Thanks brotha💪
Great video, thank you for the info. Now I have to do this to my 4th GEN Firebird. ❤❤🎉
What did you do for shifter boot? Just used the 5th gen? Found a good center council for cheap. Might end up trying this.
Would love to see more pictures or videos after the seats go back in. I decided to do the same.
The 2SS has the gauges in the center console. In 6spd and auto.
Looks great bro

Where’d you get the door panels?
The stock cupholder is horrible. My drinks spill all the time

Picked it up from a local buddy who parts cars out. Luckily he had the perfect one lol
Will it work for a auto fbody?
I’m wondering the same thing
You da man!!😂😂
