being forced vs. self-motivated
Yeah, but too bad you only learn quickly as a child...
@@Hecatonicosachoron Ye just like when you learn a language
@@myhandle127 it takes a kid 3 years of nonstop learning to speak their first language somewhat fluently and up to 5-6 years for them to get a decent vocabulary and stop stumbling over words. Any able-minded and dedicated adult (or teen) can do way better
@@Hecatonicosachoron in my experience you learn 100x faster as an adult because of motivation and perservance

It hurtss they do it faster!
DAMN TRUE!!!!
This is why I write fantasy. Kids can't beat me
What a myth ,i started my lessons less than a month ago and I'm already at the allegro practice part where you have to memorize 4 phrases with quadruple beamed notes, while kids who started with me can't even get twinkle twinkle star, which mind you i nailed in the second lesson, adults are just better at pattern recognition, kids just don't have the training for that. I guess some kids maybe super good at violin, but i don't see that to be the rule
@@mnmlogic I also think adults take corrections to heart, while you have to tell kids like 50 times before they even start to care

I'm the weird teen stage where I'm only slightly more motivated to practise than the child but maintain the same standard as them
Started playing the violin 3 months ago because of TwoSet, same as you lol
Boneywolf de just make your practice fun and it’s easy. I’ve been playing trumpet for over 3 years and I try to add a lot of things I enjoy into my practice.
I've been playing the violin for 11 years and I'm still in this stage
Boneywolf de lol
I’ve been playing the violin for about 8 years now I’m 15 and I’m starting to tire of it my opinion is to do something what u love to do
My wife is a violin/viola teacher and she had trouble teaching adults at first - trying to explain things in an adult way. But the adults wanted to learn the bunny rabbit bow hold, and have the same games and stickers as kids.
I think we just crave ways to make learning new and difficult skills more fun...
Adults are kids at heart! Everyone needs a bit of play in their lives. Why not make it fun? :)
To start anything at an older age can be intimidating when there’s tons of younger people more advanced than you
Whether it’s an instrument, a sport, or any other skill, keep going! Don’t let anything stop you from trying new things and improving!
Thank you. This was really inspiring for me honestly ... Have a nice day!!

@@lanasunderland3771 I can relate. You forgot the "one year later" part, where after repeating this every single day, the kid amuses everyone in a concert. And the adult well... You know.
I feel like it goes in extremes both ways for adults. After a year they’re either still sounding like they picked up the instrument for the first time or they went hard af and are at third year-level shit.
It’s just easier to practice when you’re a kid and having your parent force you to than being an adult and having to summon the energy to practice after a day of work or whatever
In my music school are many adult students who play their instrument at an advanced or early advanced level and attend music theory classes as well. Most of us are returners though and not actual beginners.Adults can learn too as long as they stay commited to their practice goals.
K O i can agree with this. i also return to music after years of quitting piano when i was young. the thing is sight reading is easy like i can read most of what is written when someone gave me their piece. but relearning how to play an instrument is hard as the dexterity aint here anymore like when we are children. so it takes like more concentration to play it
@@ReloGP14th If you keep practicing the dexterity will come. I personally noticed a great difference in my playing after the second year of my music lessons. You just have to persevere when you reach a plateau and practice every day

But my mom says it's ok
Yes!!! I end up going outside and practicing. I chastise my neighbors!
sub-note: i play the trumpet lol
I got so anxious about disturbing anyone, that till today I can't practice while someone is home. Difficult situation when you grew up with 5 sibblings and now have 4 children yourself. Someone is ALWAYS home 😱.
My mom doesn't really care, she isn't always at home. What I worry about is when my little brother wants to just slam on the keys of our piano (I'm a pianist) ending up me playing the guitar lol

Yes an adult beginner needs the Sibelius violin concerto
Motivational
@@lawnerddownunder3461 Aspirational. I have Joplin's works. My teacher on Bethenea: "This may be harder than a Chopin waltz." Me: o.O (note, I can barely stumble my way through Easy Winners, or Entertainer.. but Bethenea is on a different planet than those two. I gave up on it after 2 months of no progress. I feel that soon I'll give it another go.)
Well I've got Massenet's Meditation on my music stand behind my beginner's book of music. One day... one day...
The thing about kids though is that they can learn incredibly quickly even if they bitch all the time about practicing, lol. As an adult, the motivation and dedication is there, but the learning curve just seems so much steeper.
Yeah. That's why in most schools they get you to start an instrument early.
Unfair but true 😄
Maybe because on how they see the piece and how it's played to their perspective. It seems like a hell work out, but for kids they don't fully understand how the difficulty of a violin piece is. Like a kid's violin teacher would almost never say that the specific piece is hard because they would lose motivation or be discouraged because of the difficulty.
Adults on the other hand, understand the difficulty and accepts it. The learning curve on theirs is way harder because of their understanding of the piece.
Now I'm not saying kids couldn't understand violin, what I'? saying is that their understanding is different.
Why u sware
The problem with me as a kid was me being more understanding which made me have less motivation😂😭
Jokes aside I have mad respect for adult beginners
(Edit) wow ok i forgot i commented this and now i have 7k likes how te fuck
Thanks! Started only 10 months ago and hell, is it expensive and frustrating! Definitely feel super motivated, video is so accurate
Truth! And anyone who wants to look down on adult beginners needs to remember that it was their parents who paid for their lessons, not them. Not everyone has that privilege
@@sw2381 don't give up, you'll get there!!!
@@sw2381 lol yeah after my lessons theres a girl and shes been playing for 5 years and everytime i leave i can hear her play as I walk through the hallway
Emi Lia I’m not an adult beginner, but I am a teen beginner. I started cello when I was 13. Most people start between 3-5. I’m almost 16 now. It was tough to start at that point, but with help from my two wonderful instructors (one is Sarah Joy, who inspired me!), I’ve improved so much and am currently working on the Haydn Cello Concerto in C Major :) It’s coming along surprisingly well. I always aim to practice at least an hour a day, though I like to be able to do 3-5 hours a day. Practice makes permanent, not perfect. So practice consistently and productively! That’s key!
Kid: Will inevitably absorb the knowledge like a sponge and become amazing. Will stop playing the second they move out. Risk of closet space being permanently reduced by the size of violin case increases 100%.
Adult: Will practice religiously and learn pieces that they enjoy and will always love. Will probably never become amazing, but will study until they're dead. Or until arthritis sets in. Risk of becoming a pop violinist or fiddle player increases 300%.
This depresses me with its accuracy.
As an adult learner who wants to play fiddle... 😅
What's the matter with being a fiddler? 😅 I personally want to tackle certain violin soundtracks AND folk songs, which I think makes a musician well-rounded in their progress.
The thing about adult learners is that they know what they want and will give a lot more effort. I feel like that in turn makes the teacher more excited to teach, and creates a snowball effect. People are more likely to become better as they age if they start at a young age, but I don’t know if kids learn faster than adults
@@kaladin783 I agree. Regardless of age, passion is the trait that decides how fast and well you will learn. And people often forget that they have their whole lives to learn a skill. You don't stop learning after you get out of high school or even college. But many don't give themselves the chance to lesrn new things after that point and we as musicians need to stop telling them that it will take years for them to be 'decent.' You can't measure a skill that way.

This is so realistic and encouraging for adults at the same time. People think that only kids can learn violin properly but it's not always the case. Usually kids don't choose to play the instrument but their parents do. Adults are adults and they never start playing violin until they have decided and they know they want to do it although the budget and time sacrifice they know all of that very well. Me as an adult I started violin 4 months ago and to be lucky no one bullied me for starting late and even my teacher told me that I have the potential to become a very good one all it needs is patience and motivation.

This makes me feel better about being an adult student. I think the hardest thing about learning as an adult is the lack of free time. I have three kids, and I homeschool. I wish I would have started this at least when I was single if not a child. My favorite childhood memory is free time.😆
It's the concentration, too - I think we have more responsibilities in the way.
That's accurate. I've had adult students who often cancelled lessons because they'd had little or no time to practice that week, due to kids, work, etc.
Of course, these days even KIDS have little free time, what w/ all the school activities and work, and often their parents have them in SO many extracurriculars.
It can be a wash.
I'm 25 and my family started asking me when I'm going to marry, like no, I know if I married I won't have my me time, I can't even take care myself let alone another person and probably a baby 😭
@@irun_mon I'm two years older than you and can relate🤣 The sad thing is everyone around me is getting married and having kids, so it's such a hassle to be the odd one out 🙄
Jessica Hanson Im a homeschooling mum of three also! My practise slot daily occupies the same time as “cook dinner” And yet practise is done and food (such as it Is) is served. Time is hard to find.
I've had to teach both and THIS IS SO ACCURATE 😂
...makes such a difference when you're spending your own money and nobody is making it into a "chore" for you. On the other hand... I'm re-learning piano at 37 (stopped at level 2 in elementary school) and have so much anxiety that my hands are shot and I'll never get past level 3 x_x gah. I'm doing stretches but... how do these kids with like HALF the handspan of an adult play so well ;______; *regrets*
I agree 100% 😂
xiola cause, and I'm not saying this for everyone, and I might be wrong generally, but kids learn new skills faster than adults. In my experience anyways.
@@xiola also because kids hands are kind of trained to play octaves and their joints are prepared to play, since theyve been playing since they were young
At least I learn quickly, I’ve started learning in 4th grade and I’m in 5th grade, and I can do most violin skills now!!!!!
5th attempt at getting TwoSet to notice me telling them what amazing musicians/youtubers they are, how much I respect them from a musician's perspective, and how much I love them
the fact that Brett's shirt says eat sleep practice just makes it the more better
As someone who wanted to learn a new instrument during middle school, I basically include both traits.
Prisca me too
same xD
same
Same
I started first day of 6th grade
2:22 brett’s “HeHe” is B4 A4.
i really need to go to sleep.
it's b3 a3 actually lol
Its actually a C3 B3
crystal roses yeah, it’s a C and B
The blindfolded Piano girl no it isnt
I don't have perfect pitch but at least I can play baroque.
Oh wait... I play guitar
I grew up poor and never go the chance to pick up an instrument. Now that I'm an adult, I can afford violin lessons and it's really fun. I always look forward to the next lesson!
That’s awesome! It’s so nice you finally got the chance to pick up an instrument, keep practicing!
Have a nice day/night 😊❤
2:15 was a fav part lol keep up the great work twoset
As a 27-years old begginer i strongly relate to this xD
All the best!!!
sepryot I’m also a 27 year old beginner!! *_*
You forgot
Adult learner: Can you tune my violin please? (Every lesson)
At least I tuned my own violin with an app or a piano but yeah, i get you
Haha I'm an adult beginner that started about two months ago. I try to tune it with an app every practice session, but even when I tune it for lessons, my teacher always has to retune it. Hopefully I'll learn to tune by ear soon.
@@tallergeese You have to listen out for the wobbles :)
Wait why is this true
It's true but
Why
Ya
As an adult beginner
I can totally relate
Until i learnt to string my own violin and tune it on my own i had to ask my teacher to tune it for me everytime 😅😅
“Did you bring your book?”
“No”
“Why?”
“I forgot”
“Did you bring your Violin?”
“No?”
“Why?”
“I forgot.”
“What are you even doing here?”
“I forgot”
Classic
Alright. My whole life, I could hear music in my head. Decided to pick up a violin recently, and after a month and a half, I am killing it for a beginner. I practice 4 hours plus everyday. I can even perform some advanced techniques. I am almost intermediate and I use no sticker. I hear and feel for tonality. I can do vibrato at half speed. I can do trills, and left hand pizzicato is starting to develop. My scales are quick and accurate. I wish I would have played as a child, but I think it is not until now that I am meant to play.
I used to play the violin when I was younger and I HATED IT 😂 but now that I’m 20 I really regret quitting
Same here man
this is me with the piano ("": i remember i even got 2nd place in a competition but i hate every single second of it because my mom forced me so i quit. but now i regret it so bad and im stuck at grade 2 im 18.
I played violin when i was younger, but when i started watching twoset, I regretted instantly lmao
@@reigenlucilfer6154 Are you me. I quit piano in 4th grade after the school required us to play instruments and now I really want to go back and play. I seriously feeling guilty for quitting classical music.
Don't regret stopping to do something if you've hated it at the moment. You might wish, you could play an instrument, but it's not worth the many hours being forced to do something you hate. My parents kinda forced me to piano lessons, I hated it and after two years I changed to learning the violin. Well, of course I'd be happy to be able to play the piano, but I'm still glad I didn't continue learning it. Other example: I was forced to learn chinese since my parents are chinese and I live abroad, so I wouldn't learn it in school. I hated it and I am able to read chinese mostly, but it wasn't worth it. I have forgotten so much chinese wich I was forced and now I want to improve myself. Noone forces me anymore, and I'm forgetting less
Heheheheh and then there’s me recording myself and putting it on loop to make it sound like I’m practicing...
rainbowtrends holy shit ur a genius
My electric piano had that option, I did it as well
Lol i did that too
THIS IS GENIUS!!
It sucks when you have a teacher with perfect pitch ;-;
It's so motivating to see the adult trying his best, and fighting things my child self can't comprehend,
yet when the kid is too relatable I just feel like I'm doing something wrong.
I'm crying, why is Brett so convincing XD
