"Work on hard problems" - Agree. Everyone wants an easy solution. No one wants to bother with math or science. When you work on hard problems, you'll get 10x less competition. Simply because people are lazy and math is scary for most people. Come up with an uncommon idea and you'll succeed. Something that is not travel or cryptocurrency related, for example, logistics or data analytics. Instant win.

there is the classic store with brick and mortar
      let's call it 1.0
in this store, products almost never change
and the owner chose the products
      it is boring
now, there must be a new store
      let's call it 2.0
in this store, products always change
and people choose the products there will be via an app
on the app, there is a huge catalog, people choose the products that will show up in the store
the store is constantly being supplied with the products people choose

6:58 - "work on hard problems, driven mainly by curiosity....taking note of gaps and anomalies" This is both a great insight and encouragement to my otherwise very little progress work on a project. I am trying to unwind something that has become a commodity and provide the values the. creators duly deserved. Thank you.

    *Key learning points:*
    - The greatest ideas seems like toys when they initially start
    - What makes you unique and weird in this world will be the exact thing that will help you succeed (be orignal and don't try to copy others)
    - History doesn't repeat but it rhymes, so try not to copy but that didn't mean you shouldn't learn from the past experiences of others
    - Best meetings for investors are where they actually get to learn something new (heard this advice from many different investors too)
    - You don't have to be novel
    - Also the most important, subscribe to Garry ❤️

Now I am 48 years and got out the corporations, made them a lot of Millions of dollars. and I learned very few things for them. So now I am thinking and planning to be my employer. So I plan to start my business at the beginning of 2022.
I will be traveling around the world for the next 12 months, starting December 01, 2020, to find ideas and learning more about what I need to do. Thanks for this video and for sharing your love with all of us. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👌

Not my area of expertise, but I feel like there isn't a shortage of good (and novel) ideas. However, there is a shortage of people who have the knowledge and/or capital to prototype a product and get something into peoples hands. I also think that it is less about the idea and the willingness of the founder to pivot to what the market demands not what they personally find valuable. Would love your thoughts on these two aspects Garry! Love the channel and this video. Comment is not meant to sound dissenting, hoping to just start a dialogue!

Not so true when comes to potentially billion dollar ideas. When you go up in moneyland, there is absolutely no shortage of people with capital, expertise and talent. However a billion dollar idea is a rarity and quality ideas only come once in awhile. If youre simply talking about the average everyday startups, then yeah ideas are not that important compared to other aspects of a business

„History doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes“ - is literally my fav quote from now on! Just think about it for a Second: Every company runs on the same very basic of principles of solving a real problem, finding the right words for what you are trying to say, creating value and so on. Yet, from the outside, it sometimes looks like as if they would have no common ground at all - but the metrics of success were the same in every case.
Also thanks for the great content, keep it up Garry! To be honest I have a million startup ideas just in my head, getting new ones all the time - usually about AI, future of human transport/ Infrastructure and educational system, sometimes crazy space stuff. Mostly they feel to big to achieve. If you would take a few mins, I’d pitch you my top three! If not, one day or another we’ll meet at Silicon Valley 🤘
    Greets from Berlin!

I am thinking about a new type of restaurants: eating-spots
in eating-spots, food keeps changing, chefs also rotate
this is opposed to current restaurants,
thanks to this rotation of food and chefs, eating-spots are more powerful than restaurants,
along with that, there is an app,
people vote for the food that will be cooked in the next days
menu is influenced by the live input of the people via an app.

Thanks for the good advice and the share of Paul Graham's article on generating startup ideas. Really helpful!
Most people advise others toward specialization and a narrowing of experience. It's refreshing to hear arguments supporting going wide on unique experiences as they will serve you (and others) later in life. I was fortunate to have people in my life encouraging me to choose adventure and experience over specialization in my 20's and early 30's. Many of my friends took the other path and out-earned me in terms of dollars but I was out-earning them in experiences, which have opened up a world of possibilities to me now. No regrets on that.
One of my favorite quotes from the Paul Graham article, "Live in the future, then build what's missing."
    Cheers

In that essay, PG also mentions that the best ideas tend to be organic. This means that they naturally pop into the mind of the founder. Usually it's something they need but there is no existing solution yet. The more interviews I watch with founders, the more I see this. It doesn't have to be a native need. It can be a need of a business owner that you interviewed. Doordash started this way.
In the essay, it's also written that there is a way to generate ideas by brainstorming. These tend to be bad ideas because they don't usually stem from needs. It's still a good way to dive deep into your past and identify moments you needed something but there was no solution for it.

But I have been told I shouldn't pursue the idea because don't have an engineering/product background (I am UI/brand designer). I also ran into tons of questions while I was thinking through the product, and it really diminishes my passion for this idea. It is a hard problem. What seems to be the problem with TravelTech startups. Or specifically, the Travel Planning startups you were referring to?

Garry, do you think these dynamics changes much in a B2B SaaS's? It seems to be the case to me. If the problem is not a big enough to fit the client's yearly budget - no matter the solution or time spent on a solution - it's off on the get-go. Reverse that - a big problem that people die to pay $ for, even a shitty solution is good. So it's much more about a systematic approach of looking for problems versus having the right insights about a problem. Thoughts?

I DO have a solid beginning for a innovative start up, so I guess I am headed in the right direction. This video just confirmed it. Thanks Garry this video was for me alone. 👍

Being a programmer for a software house , i got to work with alot of startups . Let me just say most of them dont innovate, same ideas over and over and example is back when robinhood and stock trading was hot everyone wanted to make stock trading platform or another stock screening app. Recently they all want to make nft platforms to try and beat opensea. Its crazy cause some of these people are brilliant in their fields but they all think inside the box.

That what I told myself day -n and day -out. Starting an idea for the sake of Your startup journey isn't right. I dont know about other people . But being an immature Entrepreneur , I tried to force myself to look for problems that people are facing, for the sake of starting my journey as soon as possible which is supported by wrong assumption that I may miss many significant years of my 20's if I dont start . Although I m learning all the great technologies needed in a startup to support it n reality. But my thinking is vague. Idea should come from personal experience and significant year of facing the problems by yourself and people in real life.
