Excellent work guys! Now we HAVE to find someone who was actually one of the kids cheering.
I think we’re just getting started.
Maybe one of the Kids is named Dustin?
@@literallyagalilacegenii7.690 maybe dustin has a sibling named echos 🤣
So much respect, can't express how much it means to me that you've taken the time to share stories & help document the history behind the scenes
What a gentleman, delving into this with Rocket Sloth. Thanks Marty 🙏🙏
Love your engagement in the community and every talk you do (even the church ones!!)
I have an Album from 1994 by Guitarist Buckethead where the Grunt Birthday party sound can be heard in a song called “I Come In Peace”
Holy shit, you’re right.
As a fellow buckethead and halo enthusiast, I tip my hat to you sir, and your excellent taste in music.
@@Aeus2095 Why thank you good sir, Love the Album Giant Robot, actually managed to get my hands on an original Japanese release awhile back.
Taking about Buckethead huh? Yeah my first reaction when I played Halo and heard he Grunt birthday was HOLY, BUCKETHEAD USED THE SOUND AS WELL
@@vandersonjunior8018 I had a similar reaction but the other way around when I first heard Giant Robot having only gotten into Buckethead’s music about four years ago.
+1 for Halo and Buckethead!
Realizing that those kids behind the sound are in their 50s and 60s now... geez that's a wakeup call
Aaaaahhhhhhh
At least it’s not from 100 years ago or something so they’re still alive. It would be far creepier if they had all died decades ago
50-60s
@@tarajoe07 sound was recorded in 1978-1979 so we had anywhere from 5 to 12-year-olds in the clip
This puts the kids in the birth year range of 1966 to 1973, so this puts them anywhere from 51 to 58 years of age today
I originally had '50s to 60s' and, double checking the math, that was correct initially
@@rawr51919 I know. Can you math? 2024 - 1969 (assuming kids were 10 and recording was in 1979) is 55 years.
In Reach, they had lil descriptions I remember to this day. "Beat 'em til the candy falls out"
Also, "Standard Issue Data Storage and Sensory Housing" and "You can have it in any color you want, as long as it's black"
Marty O'Donnell is a real homie for this, what a lad
Extraordinarily rare modern Marty W
@@Jormyyy Tell me about it. He seems really nice on the surface, but after everything that has come out about him, I can sense a pretentious jerk vibe that lurks beneath the surface.
@@nathanrwinyou talking about the Lorraine mcclees thing?
@@nathanrwinWhat do you mean? I’ve never heard anything bad about Marty
@@AusananBro was super publicly pro Trump, possibly still is, and literally ran for congress on a right-wing platform like VERY recently.
I've been a life long fan of his, ever since I first played Halo with my brother at 5 years old, I absolutely love his work to death across so many different projects, but his thoughts on the world, and who he actually chooses to be (or perhaps what he chooses to be blind to) is just something that can't be looked past.
The sad part is I know there's a non-zero chance he sees this, and that makes me really sad, the dude used to be one of my heros, and I thought he'd always be.
I've heard that YAY! sfx on the radio all the time by DJs. I just took it as a Wilhelm scream sfx
I absolutely love how much passion Grant Kirkhope has for his work. You can tell just by his body language how he perks up when talking about the games he’s been able to put a personal touch into. It’s kind of funny how you told him that you didn’t want to take up too much of his time, because his close family and friends are all probably tired of hearing his stories.
Yes both him and the first developer guy you can tell love their work. I also love when people are excited to talk about their work, it’s so much nicer than for example Harrison Ford speaking about Star Wars.
I can also tell that they take great pride and scapegoating their superiors instead of taking any initiative to fix things that they see as problems in their industry and just tell people to stop complaining about them. Clearly, the sign of somebody who has confidence in their work is kind of person who would tell people to stop being negative and complaining about their work just so they don’t hear the noise. Marty and Grant are being pretentious in this video and they need to get off their high horses. How incredibly patronizing do they have to be to say this crap to their fans? Apparently very. And manipulative on top of that to try and frame it as if telling people to stop complaining about games that suck is a good thing. Maybe we’ll stop complaining when these games are good and these companies keep their attitudes in check.
@@3ofSpadesI can tell you’ve been in the workforce
@@jordanlee3258 he has good reason, and you're obviously not educated
Did not expect to see Grant Kirkhope on here. That's really cool that he and Marty know each other, it always feels like dev teams don't really interact much but knowing that Bungie and Rare were on good terms with each other is actually really cool. I remember a great story Grant told at a panel once where apparently Rare was invited to a massive event in Japan for either the N64 or Goldeneye's success and at this event Grant met Shigeru Miyamoto and after introductions with his translator and a handshake he assumed that was that. Around five minutes later Grant went to the Men's room and saw one of his coworkers at a urinal and tried to pull his trousers down as a good ol' lads joke and halfway through struggling to pull them down and laughing about it he just turns to see Miyamoto looking down at him confused.
It had the whole panel laughing and that's probably what Miyamoto thinks about when he thinks of Rare of the 90s.
The Grunt Birthday Party skull sound shows up in the song called "Ninja" by The Insane Clown Posse from the Tunnel of Love album. The album released back in 1996.
Also on Nine Inch Nail’s Head Like a Hole at 18 seconds.
Shout out for still making Halo interesting and getting Marty on
Man, Marty is just such a cool and wholesome guy!
Marty is such a cool guy, he scapegoats his superiors and tells people to stop complaining about crappy games that suck instead of making any better or good games himself or actually giving any good advice as to how to fix the issues so they would not be issues anymore. What a cool guy. Him and Grant were so pretentious in this farce of a video. And manipulative to boot. How the mighty have fallen.
Marty is good at music and really enjoys video games like the rest of us. But he's not so wholesome. He's racist, queerphobic, is another Trumpet, and bashes others he disagrees with; and these are just things he's said on video so if he's willing to be this vile in public just imagine what he's like in private. There's merit to include him in projects like this and I still listen to his music, just keep in mind that being wholesome requires believing in other's rights and respecting their bodily autonomy, but Marty doesn't.
@@3ofSpadesyeah, I don’t have “superiors”.
@@buttercup_slutcope
So wholesome he supports a man who'd rather have America as a dictatorship, who provoked his followers into trying to overthrow the democratically elected government, who has single-handedly taken political violence to a new level with his accusations and misinformation.
He's also so wholesome he'd vote to take away a woman's right to decide on whether or not she wants to carry a child concieved from Sexual Assault.
So cool and wholesome Bungie fired him and the people who used to work with him actively talk about how much of a pain he was to work with.
Kinda depressing to find out a person you used to look up to is a huge asshole. I'll always respect the composition of the OSTs (though Micheal Salvatori also contributed quite a bit), but anything beyond that is real iffy.
marty is always so awesome
that sound effect is so iconic im pretty sure its on the same level of the Wilhelm scream. shame on 343 changing that
343 ruined everything. liberals
WE LOVE THE CREATORS IF OUR GAMES….WE ARE NOT MAD AT RANK AND FILE WOKERS WE BLAME AND GET MAD AT THE SUITS THAT GET INVOLVED IN GREAT GAMES….BLESS ALL THE CREATORS THAT ARE
A PART OF MY CHILDHOOD/GAMING EXPERIENCE
The Johnny-Silverhand sentiment of "fuck the corpos" holds true in real life just as much (if not more) than it does in Cyberpunk.
Doom(93) and Doom 2(94) have many of the sounds in the entire game from a similar sound library , some they only modified the pitch lightly.
Doom also utilized many of the images in the game from Gothic encyclopedia type books.
I feel like such a dork for getting chills when they said they got a hold of Kirkhope lol
Marty shouted yall out on a video recently!
love the deep dive
Great vid, i appreciate them all for doing interviews
Marty is great and hilarious
Look for a video called "Mass effect 3 against all odds trailer". At approximately 1 minute 18 seconds you can hear the sound of a warthog crashing I think it's a Halo CE warthog hog.
5:13 AND THE WARTHOG HORN! :(
So from what I know because I talked about this with a bunch of friends back during halo three
And me and my girlfriend played viva piñata a lot
So there is a difference between the sound bite that you can get free online of children celebrating
And the soundbite from viva piñata
And the difference is the popping sound of the piñata combined with the children celebrating
That sound is only in viva piñata and that is the sound that you get in halo three
The sound bite that you can rip off line is just the kids cheering
So, in conclusion, the soundbite in halo three is the one from Viva piñata just like Marty said, because of that popping noise
I love that this is a full-on Halo vid from Rocket Sloth, like the old days. Big props guys, miss these Halo vudeos from you all.
Where was the halo 5 code shared? I would like to look into the ee if possible, but I can't find mention of the code anywhere.
I love that you guys set a goal and just full send it. This video was awesome.
What a rabbit hole to go down!
Finally a HALO video again :)
It's all over the Jay Electronica album "A Written Testimony" as well
Dude, it is so awesome to be able to contact Marty and to have him gladly come on and speak to you guys about old Halo lore. It's. awesome Marty is so cool
I honestly couldn't care less about this going in, yet you guys make it so interesting no matter what topic is up
Isn't this also the same sound as the children cheering at 6am in fnaf?
Speaking of FNAF, the music box for the puppet is also used in a baby show known as "Baby Mozart." I babysat a kid, and they played the video and the music started. Gave me the chills
@@luckymedic1438 BRO my mum always put on baby Mozart for me as a kid
@-jobrocodwawz-6226 LMFAO. Yeah, puppets theme in the show is surreal
One of the few Skulls i never turn off i find it extra useful for head shots and in the O.G days area damage
*Sees video* why does a sound affect needs a 46m essay?
Jaw is dropped for the whole video!
46 minutes is nothing when you've seen hbomberguy's roblox oof video
Well, I guess you need to listen to the entire video to find out. Even though you find out by like the 10 minute mark, and then the rest is just pretentious complaining about people critiquing their video games instead of actually saying or doing anything that would improve video games so people can just play them and have fun. Clearly, the mark of somebody who has confidence in their work is somebody like Grant who just wants people to shut up and never complain about it. Maybe those people who disliked the DK rap were on to something.
i still dont see why a 46 minute video was necessary. "the sfx was not in halo 2, it was in halo 3 and the rest of halo games. it came from viva pinata but is actually a stock sfx from a library.", the whole video couldve just been that
I’m glad to see Marty agrees with the fan base about 343. I don’t hate any bottom level programmers or developers. But the reason Bungie halo was so good, was because the corporate bureaucracy didn’t exist as much back in those days. It’s gotten so much worse since then. Back then halo games were a passion project mainly, and since it was such a developing era, Microsoft backed off a fair bit and let bungie do their magic. Nowadays big companies like EA, Activision, Epic Games, Nintendo, Ubisoft, etc etc; control every aspect of games and focus mainly on sales which is sad.
NIN’s Head Like a Hole has the GBPS sound effect in it’s intro at 18 seconds.
44:35 I think the real forerunners are the friends we teamkilled along the way (because the forerunners were human and 343 guilty industries can suck it)
I’ve always thought the sound wasn’t just in Halo, never knew where I had heard it though
pretty sure the sound is in a goal explosion in rocket league sideswipe as well
Youre thinking of party time! Not the same though, unfortunately.
21:00 I'm fairly certain that easter egg was a secret boss battle. I remember it being a massive upscaled Promethean Knight. Perhaps I am thinking of the wrong thing? I can't remember where, but I remember seeing a video on it.
I think I found it: Halo 5 - Secret Mini And Giant Knights Battle On Guardians (Mystery Easter Egg Solved?) by General Kidd
Thanks ima check it out
That isn't it. There are at least two known easter eggs that play the sound, but they are both on different missions, one is the prophet's bane ee, the other is the mini/giant knight one. The code that was displayed on screen requires a completely different process than those two ee's. The code basically says there are 6 areas you need to get to in order, and if you touch the ground, you get reset. Plus in the video he said it has to be on The Breaking (although I don't have access to the code so I can't verify that)
@@BinxBubbles hmmm. Maybe I’ll go hunting then and see what I can find.
Love these kind of vids - reminds me of that symbol hunt ya all did for ODST. Keep up the great research!
Daddy sloth has returned :( FINALLY
Conquer mentioned made my day. Playing halo 2 and bad fur day was my childhood!!!
Finally, another Halo video! Super interesting, thank you for digging into the mystery behind *Children_Cheering_Crowd_02*
THANKS ROCKET SLOTH for another great video
13:30 As a fellow video game sound effect nerd, you're not gonna sneak some Hollowknight OST past me without me noticing XD
Haven't watched the video yet. I'm going to go ahead and guess it's from an old audio and sound effect catalog from the 80s or 90s that many different companies bought and used.
Grant's little rant was very prescient, loved it. The industry itself contributes to that "game gets launched and dies overnight" I mean, delisting perfectly playable games anyone?
Love just casually calling Marty and Grant
A print function like that would be to the dev console, not the screen. Hence it not being spelt correctly and not getting passed through a localisation function or anything else.
Nice.
Played ODST (in it's entirety) yesterday.... of course the Grunt Birthday Party skull was on. 😁🎉
I believe the hurray sound also shipped as test audio on windows 93.
props to rocket sloth for things like this
1:17 - it's a sound library effect isn't it... on a stock sound effect CD, used millions of times by hollywood, television, and commercials?
just like the halo 3 assault rifle also being the StarCraft 2 terran marine rifle sound effect?
Great to see more Halo content from this channel again!
Wow, congration on all your hard work paying off!
First heard this sound on Outside by Mac Miller
Ahhhhh, I remember that now. Nice memory.
Nine Inch Nail’s Head Like a Hole has it at 18 seconds into the song.
Holy shit I didn't expect to be this early
While the Skull is probably most satisfying to use in ODST, CEA actually does damage to nearby enemies as it counts as explosive damage
This is the absolute niche content I sub for. Loved every minute of this.
So its the cheer equivalent to the Anaheim scream
Marty once again the MVP for the halo comunity
Watch it be from the same sample library CD that the call prayer was on and everyone got in trouble for using in their soundtracks
3 seconds after I posted this, sound ideas 1000
18:08 i neeeeeeeed that original PGR framed game cover oml
it was also used in adventures in odyssey (audio cds)
you learn something new everyday
this was a great video!
I don't care about the beef between Marty and Bungie. I've heard Marty was unreasonable at points and it wasn't entirely just Bungie being jerks, BUT, there is no excuse for removing Marty's easter eggs and other references from the older Halo games. HALO WOULD NOT BE HALO WITHOUT MARTY. When I go back to the games it's not the art or the gameplay that gets me super nostalgic, its the music.
I think the Grunt Birthday Party skull looked and sound the best in Halo 2 Anniversary
so cool!! As a long time Halo fan, Thanks for sharing this :D
We are so back
Marty is GOATed
the subtitles make my brain burn like a wound
Its the wilhelm scream of horay.
This is a certified Jeffiot moment
Great interviews I love Marty and Grant
This was awesome boys love your guys content
I'm a little confused. Didn't Halo 2 come out after Viva pinata?
Man I just thinking about that ODST Easter egg the other day. Is there anymore information on it?
Just Starting the video but, as a kid i had this fisherprice kids camuera, funny enough what sound effect was on it? This one, did fisherprice make the sound has it been solved idk but heres some info, they are a older company so they could be the first plus kids company and kids cheering idk
I was watching The Pacific War in Color S01E08 From The Ashes and at 47:16 more or less I heard this sound and thought it sounded really close to the grunt birthday party skull..idk I might be wrong but maybe someone else can take a listen and see
5:40 that is the worst question mark I have ever seen
Count money should have never been allowed to associate with such a gem of a theme song. The rap industry ruining yet another legendary item.
at 4:51 during the song "i come in piece" by Buckethead from 1994, he has the sound multiple times as well
Nine Inch Nail’s Head Like a Hole has it at 18 seconds.
Just starting the video now, hoping it has an HBomberGuy style twist and a Tommy Tallarico esque controversy. 🤣
Oh wow I remember that game!
Hey, Rocket!
Just curious if you know whether or not a deathless LASO run WITHOUT the use of glitches and playing the game as intended would be possible? If so, would that be considered the end-all be-all of Halo 2 challenges?
Glitchless probably not because the game glitches itself a lot of the time intentionally or not, so how could one gauge that for rules. I want to see trilogy LASO deathless one day but we are years away of seeing that.
I also want to see h2 vista laso too
@@RocketSloth That's a good point. My thought was something more along the lines of no OOB, as well as no level skipping. As for the unintentional glitches, not sure how those could be worked into the rules.
I'm not a sound guy but the five nights at freddies 6:00 am sound effect sounds similar but not quite?
it’s in ghost of soulja slim by jay electronica
Viva Pinata mentioned!!!!!!
Unless grunt suicide already existed they kind of did split it into two skulls
"how old is it" uh well it said recorded in 1970 so.....
best skull in Halo!
Damn this goes deep 😅😅
Isn’t this also the fnaf 6am cheer?
Wish viva pinata was on pc in steam
