    Palm folks. I am 5'8" and 165lbs. I tried the Alchemy 14S and loved it once I was in, but it was a bit snug, and seemed like getting out might be a problem in an emergency. Does the Stratos 14S have more room in the cockpit than the Alchemy 14S? The Alchemy 14L seemed to have more than enough room for me, so I feel that a roomier Stratos 14L might be too big for me in the cockpit area. I was planning to purchase the Alchemy 14L.

      Thanks for your questions +Gary GaryT. The Stratos has a more height around your knees than the Alchemy. At your height a weight, we'd recommend the Stratos 14S as you'll get a really good connection with the boat, which will be a really nimble day boat for rock hopping and catching waves. But if you've tried the Alchemy 14L and are at home in the cockpit, then we'd suggest that one may be the best choice for you since the Stratos 14L also has more height in the knee area than the Alchemy 14L.

      @@ponymoore6140 The main difference between the S and L is the knee height. So roughly speaking, bigger and taller people will prefer the L, smaller and shorter people will prefer the S. But some people are looking for a more snug connection and will choose and size down, some people are looking for a roomier cockpit (to feel less confined) and will choose the L ... otherwise the waterline and hull of the two boats is pretty much the same great surfing, nimble, easy to handle performance. The choice comes down to ergonomics and your preference rather than the performance of the hull. That said, with Gary's experience of the Alchemy 14S we recommended the Stratos 14S to him as one of the main updates was a slightly higher knee area. Giving individual advice here is difficult without seeing how someone sits in the boat, that's why paddlesport shops are the best place to get a feel for your new kayak and see it for real.

    I attempted to sit in an Alchemy and found it really shallow and uncomfortable. The Stratos appears to be a good deal bigger.....
    .....but is it Palm dudes?

    • @palmequipment

      The boat is not bigger, but the knee area is slightly higher. The cockpit ergonomics are a little bit more like a whitewater boat (so your legs are less straight), which helps with controlling the boat in the rough stuff, or rolling.

    What would you say the main differences with Alchemy ? apart from obvious measures. more rocker ?

    • @palmequipment
      @palmequipment  6 років тому

      Sorry we missed your comment earlier Ruskin. One of the significant differences is the cockpit ergonomics. The Stratos feels a little bit deeper, making the knee position a little bit more like a whitewater kayak, for better control turning and rolling the boat. It's a small difference, and the Alchemy was already a very friendly boat, but it does make the Stratos a little bit friendlier still in the rough stuff.

    6ft 185lb, L or S ???

    • @palmequipment
      @palmequipment  3 роки тому

      The main difference in feel between the L and S is the knee area / height of the cockpit. At your height, you'd probably feel quite snug in the S ... and more comfortable in the L. It can be hard to find a shop to have a sit in both an L and S ... since the boats are flying out the door! Unless you specifically want a tighter fit, best to get yourself a sit in a Stratos L.

      @@palmequipment thanks, test fitting right now is impossible as all the kayak showrooms are closed to visitors. Covid is a bitch and kayak demand has gone through the roof.. I like the sound of snug and feeling more as one with the kayak and having more feedback BUT I'd also want to be able to slip out like taking off a slipper when bailing out upside down.
