- Chad provides a thorough lesson on how to perform pH calculations for Weak Acid-Strong Base Titrations. Reactions between weak acids and strong bases effectively go to completion, and therefore the reaction between them can be treated as a limiting reagent calculation. Before the addition of strong base (the initial point on the titration curve) there is only weak acid in the solution and calculating the pH of a weak acid was presented in chapter 16.
Before the equivalence point in a weak acid-strong base titration the addition of strong base has neutralized some but not all of the weak acid converting it into its conjugate base. Having both weak acid and conjugate base in the solution, the pH can be calculated using the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation.
At the equivalence point in a weak acid-strong base titration, effectively all of the weak acid has been converted into its conjugate base (which is a weak base), and calculating the pH of a weak base was presented in chapter 16. The tricky part is that one will typically have to determine the value of Kb from the relation: KaKb = Kw.
Finally, after the equivalence point in a weak acid-strong base titration there will be excess strong base remaining in the solution along with the production of the conjugate base. For practical purposes, the contribution of the weak base is ignored, and the pH of the solution is calculated as if it were simply the pH of a strong base solution.
The lesson is concluded by explaining weak base-strong acid titration curves and showing how weak base-strong acid pH calculations are analogous to weak acid-strong base pH calculations.

This channel is truly a gift from the chemistry gods! Single handedly carrying me through this unit, thanks!
Glad it's helping you - Happy Studying!
Wow Chad you are really amazing, you really focus on every detail. BEST TEACHER EVER!!!
Thank you very much.
I have one of my last chem exams tomorrow and this has been the hardest topic for me to comprehend. This video just made everything click, was gonna try and find your vids on the other kinds of titrations but you explained it so well in this one that i dont need to. Thanks my man!
Excellent, Skyler - hope you do well on your exam!
This was the best explanation of this topic that I have seen online. Thank you for teaching in such a clear manner. I finally get this now.
Glad to hear it, Alisha Rose - you're welcome!
Amazing! You have really given this so succinctly. This is probably the hardest unit in AP Chem and I am so glad I clicked on your video. You made it so intuitive.
Glad to hear it was helpful - Happy Studying!
Thanks Chad! My whole class watches your videos and we always talk about how your videos are the best! thanks!
That is very nice to hear - Happy Studying to you and your whole class!

You're my hero.
Thanks!
you're soo good man
Thank you
You're the Professor Leonard version of Chemistry!
Wow, that is high praise! I refer students to him all the time! Thanks!
OMG yes! Two gods😄👍🏻
Thank you a lot sir.
Most welcome
Chad you are a master :))
Thank you.
Best video❤
Thanks!
Do you have a video on pH adjustments? Is the process the same as in titration or do I need to follow a different method? Say, I want to lover the pH from 8.0 to 7.0, what is the easiest way?
Love you sir......
🙏
this was one of my weakest topic in chemistry but after watching this video, i found it very helpful and i now master the topic. thank you 💯
Great to hear - you're welcome!
keep this up 🎊 🎊
Thanks
Nice sir. Good night
Excellent!
how did my gen chem professor not teach us that formula for weak acids/bases. Its so much easier than doing the ice table from the get go
You should do a course in Analytical Chemistry
So many courses, so little time!
Where is the video for strong acid- weak base titrations?
❤️
😁
TY SIR U SAVED MY ASS
You're welcome!
