  • This time on Films N That we review a classic British comedy from the 30s.
Oh, Mr Porter! Is about a clueless railway employee as he tries to make his mark as stationmaster to the remote station of Buggleskelly. The film centres around comedian Will Hay who has fallen into relative obscurity in recent years but was a big name at the time. Although Will didn’t write or direct this film, his influence is apparent and Oh, Mr Porter! Is basically just a vehicle for his comedy genius.

This needs more likes and comments. Brilliant films. I also love where’s that fire and ask a policeman which was remade in the 1980’s by cannon and ball,

In the end Hay felt Albert and Harbottle were getting too much attention and left them behind...btw I think you need to see the film and the dialogue as a child of it's time.. it's still my favourite Will Hay film

Always had a soft spot for this film... I'd say most of these 30s British comedians are only remembered by people who grew up before the digital era when you'd see these films on TV during summer holidays. Today to kids they're all as totally unknown as each other... wich is sad...

I think you'll find Oh Mr Porter was based on a play written by Arnold Ridley - The Ghost Train. Arnold Ridley of Dads Army fame. 👍
